To be fair, they didn’t know Finn was conscious in the box, if they had, they would have released him every now and then so he wasn’t left completely alone

I think the reason is Klaus knew how close Finn was with Esther and if he ever found out that Klaus killed her and blamed it on Mikael he would join Mikael and help him. Him being the eldest and strongest at this time makes him more of a threat especially considering klaus was bound.
