Little did we know at that time that this band used to play in our own hometown! I can remember "Wild Cherry" playing tonight... being on a sidewalk sign walking by a bar! Cool! 😎
I’m from “The Valley” also as is my neighbor. My neighbor was in a band with Rob while they were in high school, they still keep in touch I believe. It’s funny, you can still hear the valley dialect in Rob’s speech all these years later.
Always loved this song...I'm in my mid 50s and still crank this up when I'm in my cars....
Love the song- I was in high school, when this hit!! This song might have made their career, but they are a Tight Band- LOVE THE ROCKIN GUITAR SOLO!!☺
Still hearing that on radio today, Looks like he's still doing well from it.
I just cranked that tune full blast a day or two ago!!!!! Sound of a generation
I don't care how old it is, it was and will always be a big hit!
Like Buster Douglas, I would retire as well. Take the money and RUN!
This song rocks the room. epic.
An incredible era in music....
From freakin' Steubenville, Ohio of all places.
Also the Birthplace of Dean Martin.
Steubenville? Pittsburgh? A real rock n roll tour...
Fuck ohio
Half of the R&B group Switch is from Stubenville
Mingo Junction! 😀
Actually grew up on North Hill in Mingo Junction, OH
This guy and
Sir Mix-A-Lot
(Baby Got Backs)
has to be the
happiest dudes
on the planet.
Both of them
are mega rich
30+ years later
off of one song.
@The SPIRITLIGHT Surround yourself with before you go off calling people names, learn to understand he wasn't comparing the 2 songs...he simply starsd that both Sir Mix A Lot and Robert Parissi have benefited in a huge financial way all because of just one mega hit...and because of it they'll be paid happily for the rest of their lives....has nothing to do with the style and class of music, this is about making sure you're getting duly paid for the work you put out to the public....
Sorry, but you come off sounding too woke for your own good...try taking a long nap before standing on your soapbox of self righteousness on attacking people for having their own opinions...at the end of the day, music is music, BOTH songs are timeless classics that still get people ON THE FLOOR and that's all there is to it...and I'll forever keep going there in the name of what I know and stand on....have yourself a wonderful day and be blessed and highly favoured in the name of the Almighty Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ...😎🤟
Might as well add Norman Greenbaum still raking it in from 'Spirit In The Sky'.
Great band name, my favorite Lifesaver, and a great song. I was 10 when it came out and I still remember it.
Funkin brilliant
........and that song was sho nuff funky. We played it over and over at an all Black school in Mississippi when it hit!
Funny this just popped up on my YT feed. I just heard this song at dinner tonite on the Muzak, and I remarked, I wish I had a dollar for every time I've played this tune the last 40 years.
I always thought they were black! I remember when it came out and how much I liked that song. It wasn’t until a couple years after, I found out they were white. To this day, that song is on my iPhone play list. Classic!!
Every cover band from Seattle to Bangor Maine (and all points in between) have covered this tune. You can still hear it today in some bar from Des Moines to St Augustine.
Mega hit.
no so easy to sing...great song
I remember when it hit the radio. Loved it then.... but I also Loved it when they used this song In the Pentium advertisement back in the early 90s. Good to see life has treated them nicely! 🥰
Great song. I remember when it first came out.👍
Amazing how one smash hit record can change your life financially. For the last 40 yrs chilling in the Florida sun...
1976 44 Years
I don't believe that is Florida. I don't believe that is anywhere in the US. I think that is either Malta or Monaco-- both countries with mild climates where one can buy citizenship, AND where there are NO income taxes. He says right at the beginning that he lives there for the tax benefits. This was a piece for German TV, obviously. It was probably a What Are They Doing Now kind of video. And even though that's the kind of video it is, it's also an OLD video, I'd guess about 15-20 years old. I'm pushing 60, and this guy is AT LEAST 15 years older than me, and I graduated from 8th grade the year his song came out.
@@calichef1962 it is Florida. There is no state income tax there. Also look at all the license plates in the garage; they’re all American plates. The license plate on the back of his Corvette is a Florida “Sunshine State” tag
They always say write what you know. He took that pretty literally for this song.
And look at how well that worked out for him! I wish I'd been in a position to publish some of my own music, but... It's one of those things that we all say will wait another day.
I have always loved is song and still love to hear it!
I think they boldly sneaked in "f**ckin' music" in a few spots.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought I heard that.
Oh...that would never happen!
I always thought he says it at the end.
Whether he did or not, WE sure did !
Yes, and easily replace 'white boy' with 'Right Bob!' :)
Man Wild Cherry had many good songs off this album. I am surprised "What in the Funk" never made it big.
I wish I had a dollar for every time I've danced to this song🎸🎶
Noone AnybodyKnows I wish I had a dollar for every time my band played this song. Oh wait. I did.
I was 11 years old when that song came out and now I know what the words meant, what a great song!!
1 of the all times great👍
The baritone sax in this song is so underrated!
70s Music !!!! The Best I ve Heard !!!!
I remember when the song first came out. Young as I was (I was just a child in the 1970s), I already understood the difference between the "sounds" of popular music genres. I even understood that rock 'n' roll was different from the funky sound of disco. So when I first heard the song, the first two lines already cued me to expect the singer to sound "black" for the rest of the song, as was the practice for disco / funk at that time.
