Imagine forgetting the chimney 😂😂😂 it’s so good you’re doing it through the roof too.. such a nice clean install. Also, that’s my Amish buddy “Rudy’s” metal trick.. I’ll tell him it’s now made famous by DIYFFERENT 😃
And move the osb up top near the ridge on the finished side before you start to demo. Run a skill saw 9" from the edge all the way around and remove 9" section. Then demo will fly by in a couple of hours and sheeting can go over the ridge and up...
Looks great! Suggestions: To limit your exposure to the weather 1. Build all the eve sections first. 2. Tear off only a third of the roof at a time. Run your saw down between two rafters, remove sheeting and old eave to your cut. 3 fix insulation and install new eave sections that fit, sheet what you can and move to next section. 4 same as first section but then start water shield and fabric. 5 Do third section ,fabric and pipe flashing. This way you can do the shingles all at once again! Looking forward so seeing further projects!!
You guys are amazing. I CANNOT believe you got that shingled in one day! It looks awesome, and I've always loved a black shingle roof. It looks so good with everything, especially white and gray. You guys are killin it, and sneaking up on 100k subs which is so deserved. ♡
HEY BELL! You are the best daughter in the whole world, you help mom and dad so much by looking after maverick so the roof can be completed. I know you have helped this whole time and its just the most loving thing to see you supporting the family by looking over your little brother, I look forward to seeing some more of your art work . Much love and prayers sent your way. Great video and thanks for sharing.
Ashley is so sweet!!! She seemed initially reluctant to take a compliant that you gave her for her help. But, soon acknowledged and accepted it. Good for you Ashley, for accepting and acknowledging it!!! You’ve done a lot of hard, great work for your house and family and you should be proud of that!!! Doug acknowledging it, was really sweet.. A lot of people don’t acknowledge others contributions for their efforts.
Looks great! I like the look of the newer architectural shingles compared to the old flat ones and charcoal is definitely a better color choice. Please get some tarps or heavy plastic sheeting before you tackle the other side! ☺️💕👍
I really like your popcorn music lol! It makes watching much easier to view as it’s not loud or booming base noise or obnoxious lyrics. Your work is Soo precise & informative!
I definitely think you got your money worth on the old air compresser considering all your different projects it's been used on. Lol The roof looks great.
The tip how to cut aluminum with out much stress is absolutely priceless and a great time saver. I will definately use it next time. My tin snip results are anything but neat and easy. Good Job on the roof and hopefully when you open the rest of the roof, you do not find mold or other issues because of the unexpected rain storm. Now you know to prepare for it and thats half the battle. Best Wishes
The things you can learn from 1806 Stone House. I’ve enjoyed watching his channel ever since you gave him a shoutout. And you guys ROCK! What teamwork.
I’m loving the black shingles. I know you guys hear it all the time but your work ethic is impressive and inspirational and watching your journey has motivated me to keep working on my own projects and helps me to not give up when I start feeling overwhelmed. I’m not working on anything major like your house remodel, not at all, but I started working on a quilt that has been sidelined since last fall and I feel determined to keep moving forward.
I've put a few roofs on in Western Washington where rain never seems to stop. We kept a tarp on the roof and at the ready so when rain came we could quickly pull the tarp over the roof and protect it from getting wet. It does little good to have the tarp "on site" it has to be spread out, THEN pulled back to one end of the roof. Two people can walk it back over the roof in about two minutes (including bungee cords to hold it down.)
Ya'll did a very good job I've been doing this work for over thirty five years and yes there will be those individuals who pick at everything and those are the individuals who have never done it or only been doing it 5 years unless you have the 20 years or more then you can speak out you have done a good jod and saved a lot of money and besides our families money is unfortunately extremely important guys my family's and I love ya'll because ya'll are great loving caring kind helpful BEAUTIFUL people I could write a lot more but sometimes people get on me because how long my comments are THUMBS UP MY FRIENDS and would Belle want to share more art work the kids love it well heck we all love it lol
Now I can say..your half way...I nearly said it last time forgetting the shingle 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤣...please video part two...we are all invested in this 🤣🤣 🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕
Another fabulous job completed, despite the pesky rain turning against you :) love how Ashley offers encouragement as well as being a great supportive team member...you make a great partnership. x
To save time on the 2nd side, could you possibly build the eaves in advance? Or do any cutouts on the OSB? Any prep stuff would not only save time, but would just make things go more smoothly, reduce opportunities for problems, and most importantly, reduce stress! 😉
As usual, you both did a PERFECT JOB!! I really love the black!! It matches the decor. So nice!! I was a bit nervous with you on the ladder with the heavy shingles. Please be careful on the other side. #PRAYING4YOU
🥀🌹Hi Doug &Ashley you two are a great team and boy does it show Ashley know exactly what you need Doug that’s why it goes so smothley Blessings to all 🌸🧚🏻♀️🌺🦄👌😉🧚🏻♀️
You could go ahead and build the eaves and leave them in the shed until you start doing the other side. That will be one lease thing you'll have to do when it comes time so you won't have to rush and worry about the rain.
Ashley is a very good helper for you. She helps you with everything. Not all women would do that. I like the shingles. We don't have roofing like that in Australia. What are they made of?
In my old life I worked as a steeplejack in New England for many years. We did a lot of big church roofs and would have loved one of the new nail guns that are available now. As a lot of folks mentioned stage your materials and a few tarps on the completed side before you start the final side and you'll be happy you did !!! Great job !!!
My Grandfather was a steeplejack also. He used to keep a scrapbook of news articles from jobs he did. I remember him tarring and putting gravel on his own roof with leftovers from church jobs.
Ashley! You the bomb! You practically dropped every shingle in place on time! Wicked job....Teamwork makes the Dream work!"Cheers fom Nova Scotia , Canada Eh!"
You guys are AMAZING! I have so much respect for your will to keep moving on this renovation. Y'all should be so proud of yourselves. This is a huge undertaking. I can't wait for the final reveal. Everything that you guys have done looks so incredibly beautiful...perfect!! Hugs to both of you!!!
I love that you praise and encourage each other through the process. Your raising a great daughter being a wonderful sister to Maverick watching over him while you 2 work🤗💖
Ashley you are right it looks so much better then the old side. Love the black. Doug was sweet when he said he could not have did it alone. That to me was a sweet compliment to you Ashley. You are such a sweet loving family. GREAT WORK! Oh and I would be crawling on that roof I would be so scared! 😂 Have a Great weekend!
Ashley has a good eye for color. I thought as you started the roofing that I hoped you would choose black shingles. White or light gray siding with black shutters and a red door is such a crisp color combination. I can visualize it already. I’m a 77 year old grandma and I love to watch you guys. God has blessed you with love and respect for each other and amazing gifts and talents. Donna Lewis, Yuma AZ
You can increase the speed of the other half of the roof by putting the sheeting and shingles and any other supplies on the half of the roof that is finished before you tear the other half off. It could shorten the next project by a half day by already being prepped.
Absolutely gorgeous, it looks amazing. Seriously can't get over how you guys handle the rain! I say this all the time but it's true, you're work ethic is above par and such an inspiration on this platform !
I had a bad dream last night. Ashley was trying to mop up four inches of water with a towel in your living room. Oh, that unexpected rain got to me! After all the hard work you've done on that house. I want to cry.
🙋hi from Scotland wow well done what a lot of work and only the two of you I think your both amazing doing this whole renovation on your lovely house I wish you and your lovely family all the very best stay safe take care Anne Scott from Scotland 👏👏👏♥️
I felt so bad for you when I saw that you got rain on your not completed roof. I was hoping no damage would be done after you had worked so hard on everything. Glad it worked out alright. My best to you and yours. I know you will be glad when the roof is finished! You are going to need a good rest. At least fir a little while. I know you are young, but take care of your bodies so they will serve you well fir a long time! 🐺🐺🐺🐺🙏🙏🙏🙏🕊🕊🕊🕊👍👍👍👍
Couldn’t hear the new air compressor compared to the old one! I don’t know where you found the energy to get it done with just two of you. Looks really good. Fingers crossed for 3 days no rain. Don’t want that to happen again on you. Til next time! 🙏🥰✨🇨🇦
Ashley helping Doug, Belle watching Maverick...wonderful teamwork. Great job with great results! That new air compressor is impressive. The roof really looks good. Thank you for sharing ❤❤❤❤
The black shingles will create more heat inside the house. That was a great idea Ashley. It was hard to see you go through that rain fiasco. I can imagine how you guys must have felt. I am glad though the rain went by fast. You are awesome, can't say more. God bless and much love to you all.
To help you cut the top and other edges, look for Hook Blades for your knife. They hook the side of the shingle and you pull through the shingle when you cut them, you don’t even have to flip them upside down when you cut them. Also, we like to snap a common line across the bottom to help get the first course nice and straight so you have a good straight course to follow the rest of the way up the roof. We like 3/8’s to 1/2” over the drip edge where we live and work, so if the shingles are 13” make a mark on each end off the drip edge at 12 1/2” and use a caulk line to snap a common line to follow. The first few courses are the hardest to keep straight since your working above them, once you get turned around it’s much easier to keep the courses straight. The last thing I can share with you is that the tar or blackjack in the tubes is fine for a few years, but once it gets hard it will loose it’s seal and you’ll have to reseal it, a good playable silicon caulk or something like “Through the Roof” will last much longer. Love what you’ve done on the roof, like other things, it’s the prep work that makes installing the shingles ‘fun’ and the house look great when completed! Nice work!
Hey Ashley and Dug y'all did a great job. I was hoping you would go with a charcoal color ...great taste Ashley. I so appreciate the way you work together....its a blessing. Can't wait to see you soon on the tube.
I have been binge watching you for the last month or so and are full of admiration for all you both have achieved in such a short time. Its fascinating to see the big differences in renovating a house in the USA and here in the UK. It couldn't be more different! Well done!

I’d be excited to see the roof on as well.
It looks great.
Build the eaves, for the other side, in the barn, ahead of time. You guys just amaze me with all your hard work! It's looking great!
And move the osb up top near the ridge on the finished side before you start to demo. Run a skill saw 9" from the edge all the way around and remove 9" section. Then demo will fly by in a couple of hours and sheeting can go over the ridge and up...
“Some rain” 😂 that rain episode would have about freaked anyone out.. not You guys!! Keeping a cool head is a true testament 😃
At this point we almost expect that we will get rain when doing things like roofing or painting that require a clear day, haha.
DIYfferent ha!! I can see you purchasing a 50 x 100 Harbor freight tarp soon.. 😂
