We had a guy pull a knife out on another guy for calling him a racial slur. Management didn't find out that happened until months after the fact. The time limit to reprimand them and run out. They promoted the knife guy in an attempt to make it easier to fire him later on. He stayed on an additional 15 years and retired with better retirement and benefits. The other guy died under a year later of cancer. Life is strange.

The only time I went to HR about my boss' hostile tone and demeanor, she cornered me after HR talked to her about it and told me to come to her instead of going to HR. I immediately went to HR and said "I thought these were confidential. She just confronted me about it. Fix. The. Issue." She was fired like a month later.

I once reported to HR of a coworker who was bullying others and making inappropriate comments to the underage kid on our team. I was then written up for gossiping and rumor spreading.
I asked if they spoke to the others about the coworker bullying them and they said they didn't need to because the coworker denied everything and they were taking her word over mine.
I was then forced to apologize to the coworker for "lying" about her or I would have been fired. I pleaded with my other coworkers to report her as well to back me up that this woman was bullying them. But they were scared they would be treated the same way I had. The bully then got promoted to the head of the team.
    I hated working there.

That's a pretty clear-cut case for retaliation and creating a hostile work environment. The best thing to do in that situation is ask for that in writing (the "apologize for spreading rumors or be fired" bit specifically) and then take that to the EEOC (or your country's equivalent, in fact, the US is one of the worst in this regard) because the "spreading rumors" they mentioned was reporting harassment, which is literally the textbook definition of a protected activity, and they put the causal link between a protected activity and you being punished in some way into writing themselves.
And if they were unwilling to put the punishment and reason for said punishment into writing, well... I don't remember the legal term for it, but that's basically trying to discipline someone off the record, which is, generally speaking, not legal. If you had a union to go to, the company would be screwed faster than they could say "oops", and even if not, if you had the ability to go without a paycheck or two, take the firing, because that requires a written reason or it's grounds for unfair dismissal, and the written reason, as I said before, would also be unfair dismissal, but in this case, it's one where a lot of lawyers would take the case on a contingency basis, because there's almost no way they could lose due to there being basically a written and signed confession already. It wouldn't be unlikely for the company to try to settle as soon as they got word of the lawsuit being filed in the first place, because they know they'd get the book thrown at them. A lawyer that could lose such a case would be very quick to lose all standing in the legal field, barely able to find pro bono work, let alone paid work.

The dude who got promoted after stabbing his manager shouldn't have been given a choice since they were punishing him. it should have been a case of "The only position we are able to offer you in this department is this lower one. If you don't like that position, you're free to quit." Don't reward people for bad behaviour, Jesus Christ.

I always marvel at the absence of any kind of foresight and common sense in decisions like that. It's even better when the higher ups can't figure out how all Hell broke loose. Meanwhile the peons sit back and laugh as management runs around like headless chickens, trying to do damage control.

Orlando FL police, Orlando.gov had a patrol officer who was busted having sex with a known prostitute in a OPD office 👮‍♂️. The cop was first charged with sex crimes. He pled not guilty & the court case fell apart. He was retired, early 20yr. The cop had a long history of misconduct, IA complaints but he got full pension, city benefits.

    I was the HR nightmare.
I been working in Produce for 17 years as a manager. The field is male dominated because you have to reach roughly 6' above your head to unload 50lb cases above your head as well as walking on cement roughly 5 miles a day or so.
Many woman can't physically handle this type of work and so quit. I never did as I'm 5'8" and worked on a farm in my teens.
So I'm at a manager's meeting where it's roughly 3 dozen men and only 2 women. I noticed our HR guy kept on mentioning "men" and "guys". Never stating the only 2 working females in the room.
So I decided I'm gonna be the @$$ out the bunch and stood up saying. "Excuse me. There's women here too."
He turned PALE. Scared the living crap out of him. I laughed at it and told everyone just joking and then the whole room laughed about it as it was a jab towards him.
Then afterwards I personally apologized to him for doing that.

I was probably a bit of a HR nightmare.
I have a tendency to speak exactly what's on my mind. I don't want to be mean in any way, it's just how my brain works. One time a colleague came to work with a new haircut. She asked people about their opinions - I didn't know what to say so I just blurted out "It will probably take me some time to get used to." She reported me to HR for this 'rude comment about her personal appearance'.
Not long after this our safety consutant (a big lady) had some improvements for us that she had fought with management for a while. I said "Yeah you really put on a lot of weight regarding safety." 'Put weight on [something]' is a common Danish phrase to indicate that you find something particularly important. She took it as I made fun of her weight and I had a talk with HR.
Having learned my lesson from these experiences, I mostly kept my mouth shut because my thought process was 'that way I can't say anything that will get me in trouble'. Right? Wrong. Now I was suddenly non-coorporative and arrogant because I never spoke to anyone. Had a stern talk with HR (I think they were getting tired of me).
All this led to me being more and more frustrated at work, so one day when someone commented how silent I had become recently I had a meltdown. "What should I do?? If I say things straight ahead, I get in trouble! If I don't say a damn thing, I also get in trouble! WTF do you want me to do??" And you guessed it....I was sent to HR for behavioural problems. And let go not long after that.

Anybody else ever notice that when you try to report a commenter, there's no option on the list to report a suspected bot? Considering how often I see the same canned comment posted over and over again on video after video, it's not unreasonable to assume that it's not being posted in real time by a flesh and blood individual. Is UA-cam really so out of touch that it never occurred to them that this might actually be a thing that people might want to report? 🤦‍♀️

When I got divorced, it never occurred to me that I would also be losing my fantastic insurance. I showed up at the eye doctor and after they reminded me I no longer had eligible insurance, I called up my dentist and, sure enough, no insurance to see them, either. Fuck.
