Is it just me? I'm used to seeing Kate strong and alpha-female most of the time, that when I see her in that opening scene, I don't get. For Rick, it's one of my favorite scenes and I love his response but it seems so out of character for her.
I hear what you are saying, but it really is not out of character at all. This is not the first time that she had started to spiral. Even as early as Season 1 when her FBI ex was shot she would do this, even if only to a small degree. It did not always manifest as tears. Sometimes it manifested as anger or rage, but it was still her spiraling. Most of the time it involved her mother's case, but almost every time, the ONLY person that could get through to her was Castle. Even the strongest alpha personality has a breaking point and needs someone that they don'y have to be strong for/around all the time. For Kate that person is Castle. Sorry. . . got a little long winded there. :)

Plus it's her wedding day. Even the strongest would break if her wedding was falling apart.
