I'm sorry but ASU sounds absolutely horrible! I can't believe their fans were cheering for that piece of garbage! Apparently their fans know little or nothing about music! I will give their bone section props though. They sounded pretty good. But for the most part Southern wiped the floor with ASU! And that Part Time Lover OH MY GOD! They need to find a toilet and flush that one ASAP! And don't get me started on Holy Grail! ASU is just bad!
SU needs to take that arrangement of dangerously in love, burn it, use the fire to melt down the trumpet sections horn, and sell the molten metal to the nearest scrap yard. The arrangement sucked, and SU trumpets ran out of gas in the 3rd quarter.

I know plenty about music, and who cares about how LOUD they were as long as they have a good sound! That's the difference between a real musician and a wannabe! Looks like it's going to be Jackson State vs. SU in the champion ship. Don't forget about the SWAC battle of the bands after the SWAC Championship game. It's going to be off the chain that weekend in Houston, I think it was a great ide.a to implement a band battle among SWAC bands to attract a larger crowd. This might draw a crowd of about 30,000 or more.

Both bands have their people who love them so everyone will say what they want bashing the other but its clear that both bands were great during this battle. The real battle was with the stingettes and the dolls... My eyes couldn't decifer who really won but the stingettes did do better against the dolls than they did against the JSETTES... The dolls came with some new stuff though that... I want people to stop bashing either band though because they both were good...
I agree. People need to stop the bashing and just ENJOY!!! the beauty that is the diversity of HBCU bands. And I was BLESSED to be able to witness first hand the ideological competition between the Stingettes and the Dolls. Both groups are highly talented, hard working and just drop dead gorgeous and damn sexy. Life was good in Alabama that day.

Dancing Dolls are always amazing and classy. But I have to give it to the Stingettes they are awesome this year.
I've read most of you guys comments. If you know you bias and love your school too much to be objective then why even post? I didn't attend either one. ASU is in a region where there are large high school programs so they have the capability of have that big sound. However that was as good as it got with them. Messy arrangements, most sections weren't strong as a whole except lower brass, and articulating was dismal. SU has strong musicianship and arrangements however their need to over blow and distort the sound they could create is the only reason it wasn't a complete annihilation. SU won easily. ASU just too sloppy sounding. If they would have been cleaner and more articulate then this discussion would be more debatable.
