      @kashsmith6181 4 роки тому +17

      @@pan-semitistcommunist4181 I would argue that Swamp Thing would be better suited to him due to the horror elements. Swamp Thing leans much more into horror than Dr. Strange. But, he didn't make Swamp Thing as a horror movie, he made to prove that he could make a blockbuster action movie. Coming off the "Nightmare on Elm Street" high at the time of considering Dr. Strange, he probably would have made it a straightforward horror movie, probably with Nightmare as the main villain since he's basically just a more powerful Freddy Kruger. As much as I'm sure that some people would like to see a horror story staring Dr. Strange, he is not primarily horror, but action. The character's first movie should encapsulate their most primary elements first and foremost. Plus, they really couldn't pull off Dr. Strange's style of action with 90's technology. Sure, Wes Craven did a lot of surreal things in his "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies, but they were horror scenes and not well suited for action. What I mean is, they were slow build up to a quick pay off, they required vast amounts of delicate, time consuming, and expensive practical effects that couldn't afford to be abused in the intensity and elaborate choreography of an action scene, and they just couldn't match the fast paced, laser blasting, flying, insanity of the comics. Dr. Strange just can't work in live action without modern technology. Lest he be charging his spirit bomb for the last ten minutes of the climax.

    I am so glad all of these scripts failed. They are so bloated and convoluted. The core of Ironman is perfectly represented in John Favreau's film. Tony Stark is a man with daddy issues, that takes up the family business of warmongering, is injured by his own weapons, and has to save his own life in a cave with Dr. Yinsen. While the setting changed from Vietnam to Middle East, the story is essentially the same. He makes his first crude (gray) suit, escapes, and goes back to his lab and makes the more iconic red/gold suit. His ordeal opens his eyes to the suffering that his company causes by selling weapons, so he stops production and distribution, and starts to focus on shielding the world from harm. He battles his vices like women and alcohol and is an all around d*ck, but a brilliant genius.

      @goji253 4 роки тому +42

      That is not really true. The movie suits were designed by Adi Granov, artist of Warren Ellis' Iron Man run.
      The stories heavily influenced the movies and so did its art.
      Granov had redesigned the Iron Man suit and made it a more realistic design. He designed the movie suit with the same approach.
      Look up "Iron Man Extremis Adi Granov". You can clearly tell how parts of his comic redesign were carried over into his (self-admitted) magnum opus, the movie suit.

      Every single suit used in the movies was based on the comics. The more realistic clunky design of the suit been around since the 80s. The only thing movie armors influenced in terms of the comics was the design - comics started copying and pasting the exact look of the movie armors with little variation. But in terms of functionality, movies didn't even scratch the surface of what the armor can do in the comics. The Bleeding Edge armor in the movies is a watered down version of the insane biomechanical armor Matt Fraction created from Warren Ellis's Extremis concepts.

    Quentin Tarantino doing an Iron Man movie would be the best thing ever. It would also most likely give us a proper Iron Man vs. The Mandarin story, knowing how much Tarantino loves old Kung-Fu movies with menacing Asian bad guys.

    • @the-NightStar

      @@the-NightStar Sorry for the late response, son. I don't know, I suppose my UA-cam notifications have a filter for idiots and I often times don't receive idiotic responses in my inbox. Anyways, onto your BS.
      1. It sounds no more "stupid and shit" than any current Marvel movie coming out of the MCU. In fact, it sounds a lot more plausible and sellable than most of them. I don't see why a badass action brawl flick with two contrasting characters would be any stupider than a movie starring a talking raccoon, an anthropomorphic tree, Dave Batista smeared in paint, and featuring jokes from the Adam Sandler playbook. Actually, I'd rather see the former than the later. Never liked those Garbage of the Galaxy flicks.
      2. He's not, obviously. Rather a very cunning and foreboding villains he, that Mandarin character, is. (Part me for my Shakespeare.) But even if he was (which he isn't), then shouldn't we also not have a Captain America movie or his character in general? Because I know for a fact Captain America, as he was conceived by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, was quite a racist lad. As I recall, he'd refer to his non-white enemies with racial slurs such as "yellow monkey" or "brown rats". (Look it up, it's a real thing.) So, I dunno, son, if Mandarin doesn't deserve to have an opportunity for a feature film, then neither should Captain America. So I suppose it's time to burn all of your DVD copies and merchandise that feature the said character. And don't forget about those funk pops, too. Lord knows MCU
      fanboys love them their fun pops. Also, didn't James Gunn, an MCU movie director, said some rather dubious stuff about jews and mexicans?
      3. There's a movie which features a character like the Mandarin. It's called Mongol, directed by Sergei Bodrov. So case is closed, pal.

    From what I recall from reading an article in Comics Scene (mid-90s or something?), Stuart Gordon envisioned the more somewhat obvious veteran actors at the time, for Stark (Eastwood, etc.), he wanted to have the "Demon in a Bottle" storyline for the retired Iron Man, and he wanted Dr. Doom as the main baddie (cause he was also in armor and was cool looking, basically), although that's the quickest element to be shot down, since Doom is the F4's nemesis. As an interesting aside, Modok was going to be the main baddie for Deathlok in the movie that never happened, before the MCU was a thing. Is McCanlies's draft around? Would love to read it.

    I love Robert Downey Jr (litterally I want to marry him) but can we get some Kudos here for the late Keiji Fujiwara who did the Japanese dub for Tony Stark, he not only always dubbed RDJ roles including Sherlock Holmes and Dr Dolittle in Japan, he was also Tony Stark more times then RDJ, did much work in the Gundam series most notably he was Ali Al Saachez in Gundam 00, he's also voiced Megatron and grimlock in a few transformers and Mewto in smash Bros aswell as Reno in FF7 advent children and crisis core and the FF7 remake, the Joker in several batman games and movies including the dark Knight, did the Japanese voice for Bashir from deep space nine, inspector gadget, shaggy in scooby doo, dr Manhattan in Watchmen and judge dredd in Dredd.
    Just imagine that iron man is the joker, Megatron, judge dredd etc. I'm not Japanese, i knew him from watching subbed episodes of Gundam 00, Gundam the MS 8th team and Dr Stone, but he certainly deserves some Kudos. Rest in peace sir.
