Railroad Crossing at Main Ave / Granada in Tucson

New median islands on Main Ave/Granada (that are under currently construction) were, I'm sure, well-intentioned, but pose a couple of safety hazards: 1) Bicyclist cannot easily turn around when trains stop on the tracks - blocking the railroad crossing for 20 to 30 minutes and sometimes hours. 2) the median island on the north side of there railroad crossing exacerbates the existing drainage problem - greatly increasing the ponding on the road after rain storms - making northbound Main Ave all but impassible to cyclists. Median islands will also frustrate drivers of cars during long train stoppages, and will likely lead to erratic driving behavior. #completestreets #visionzero #safestreets #railroadcrossings
