Same! My heart hurts after watching the new episode and learning about how Fate was treated as an outcast- Just a few years after this video? I can’t stop comparing how bubbly Fate is here with her demeanor now. My poor girl must have suffered a lot
Fate is such a good girl, she wants to please her mother at her young age. I hope her mother sees she is pushing her to hard with the chores at home. Fate has a great teacher, he seems so caring for fate.
The only disturbing part is that they use a lot of " in Africa " instead of the name of their country . Africa is a continent with different countries and cultures .
I see a lot of comments on how they are integrating their OWN African culture into them living in Korea. I don't see the problem with they having their African culture while they are living in Korea. They can't be like "okay let's drop everything we know about the country we were born in and live in Koreans." like wtf is this. Please try and be more respectful.
if you go and live in another country, YOU MUST adopt their culture. Otherwise it will hinder social cohesion and it wont help them either. Ive lived in the UK where there is too much multiculturalism.
I think Martha should allow her children to associate with Korean children because it is from there that they will get learn the language and culture more.. even they can learn faster from the other kids ..and also the house chores won't be a problem for her if she gets many friends as possible who could help her.. I really feel for this family especially the mum And fate..I wish them well
I came here from their kids episode currently airing on my neighbour charles, how faith have changed from a bubbly little girl to an introvert shy teen currently lol
for those saying they should adapt Korean culture. people can't just be expected to forget their cultures and traditions. They're full grown adults who were raised in Liberia, it's apart of their identity and forever will be. it's very understandable to want to pass this to their children, they shouldn't forget where their roots are, if they choose to pursue further when they grow its up to them. they should be familiar with korean culture yes, for theirs and the kids benefit but that doesn't mean forsake your own. it's called integration.
Unfortunately, African patents have very traditional and strict ideas of gender roles. My Nigerian parents always tell me I have to learn to cook and clean for my husband. I just laugh because they don't know I never plan on getting married.
Lol, my asian parents think the same way too. But I tried my best to learn at least cooking since it doesn't hurt to cook for myself if I wanna give myself a delicious meal now and then :P
Faith Ebikeme I don't have preference on nationality, I have preference on personality. But of course, Nigerians only want you to marry other Nigerians. I wouldn't mind marrying someone Nigerian if we matched well, but I just don't believe in marriage.
Not all africans. Idk if there had been a revolution or if it's just Nigeria but all the males I know know how to do everything. If they don't my aunts and mom always get mad and demand to know what woman will marry them when they are like this lol
This episode is so sweet and encouraging! I love how the teacher was so concerned about Fate and how he encouraged her mother to be more patient, more understanding and tender with her daughter. Korean people in this episode were so kind to this African family even the Korean children. It made me cry!
I totally agree. This reminds me too much of when my family had to move to the UK after the volcanic crisis on a small island in the Caribbean called Montserrat. Martha's experience mirrors that of my mum so much it almost hurts to watch at times. Just like Martha, my mum had small children: me aged 5 at the time and my brother only a few months old. My dad was literally the 3rd child expecting food to be cooked, not have to really do a lot to take care of us or have to do any house work. It angers me that even in a hard situation like this the husband still think she should be doing all the house work and child rearing. EVEN WHEN SHE IS TAKING MEDICATION FOR HER SOUR LEGS!!!! UGH!
I love all the koreans in this episode, very different but am African too (ugandan) but my mother never forbid me from seeing my friends , the parents are so held back I hope they adapt they are in Korea for God's sake
Fate is still a baby, she should be playing, having friends and not worry about doing all the chores around the house. I understand we need to give our children some responsibilities so they learn but this is too much.
YoLy Candelaria fair enough but lowkey this is the culture in quite a lot of african countries. it helps in the future cus she’s not going to be playing all her life my g
captain dirtypie I agree that there should be moderations but no one should come on here and talk down on the training that helps more than it harms. The same people that will be commenting “oh she’s too difficult on the girl” would be the first ones to spread the news of how they found her daughter doing rubbish on the streets... please go, sit down, off your wig and relax as God blesses you as you do so in Jesus name. Kmt
@@mimiec4317 African culture has many good things But I don't like the fact of how they think about the women and religion Regarding that we have many flaws
I'm African living in Africa and in my country we do believe in kids doing chores and stuff but honestly the chores given to Fate are too much for a nine year old
poor Martha, having to shoulder the burden of the whole family and Faith getting affected because she's the oldest child. I hope the father finds a regular job soon, so he can help at least financially.
the Korean here are so loving and accepting, it make me feel so warm. like the others said, to live happily in another country, you must adapt to the culture. I hope Martha and Jerome will do well in adapting in Korea. Seeing them learn Korean with Fate reminds me of my mother and me. She would watch baby tv shows with me to learn and studied with me when I do homework to learn English. It makes me realize how difficult it had been for her
True. I didn't expect them to comment on the "extensions" - lol the weave. It's definitely nice they are actually looking and trying to understand the black culture.
The dad needs to know how to present himself better. The way he talks, dresses, and approaches people are scaring employers away. When he goes job hunting, he has to be careful to be presentable. Instead he's dressed poorly and he shouts "yo! you got a job for me?". Of course when he speaks in that disrespectful tone (I know he not being purposely disrespectful due to his language problems), it's scaring people away.
What I can't understand is why they had another child in their circumstances. Their oldest child wants to go out and have fun with friends, but she is stuck playing housemaid to her siblings. Also the father needs to get his appearance together because walking around and asking for a job looking like a hobo isn't working. If he doesn't have job he could at least help his wife and daughter out around the house. Imo he really isn't trying hard enough~
they probably had a kid by accident, like they didn't have access to birth control or something like that, and I don't think abortions are legal in Korea so they really didn't have a choice I guess :/ I get what you're saying though it was really irresponsible and I agree 1000% on the father thought like help out around the house if you can't get work
Well to be honest when you are from a country who had a war and you remember all those horribles memories it’s hard to get over and specially when you came to an unfamiliar country you don’t want to be alone. That’s why maybe they have 4 kids. In my case, I’m from Afghanistan and we are 6 siblings because we don’t have family in Canada....
In Africa, it is not considered being a maid to take care of your younger siblings. It may be tiring sometimes but it's also a good experience. We have different views about that and so it's easier for us. Just like how they think having children ruins their shape and it's hard it's different over here. We see the joy of it. Children are a blessing. Most African women don't lament on the pains of childbirth, once they see their baby, they're filled with joy that overcomes that. And this is why you can hardly find an African woman depressed because of child birth or raising children.
My heart goes out to this family; especially the mother and Fate (Faith). Parents (in general) try so hard to provide the best for their kids. At the same time, kids just want to please their parents. It's okay to keep your traditions and culture in the home. When you live in another country, you must work harder and learn the language; in order to survive in that society. I hope this family finds that balance of keeping their Liberian culture in a Korean society. Please stay strong and best of luck!
Edwina Snowden yeah, this was an emotional episode for me because my family were immigrants ourselves and now we are all doing well in America. I wish only the best of luck for this family.
If he wants to get a job he should learn some korean.. I know it's hard to learn when you are old, but he has to do it.. This is necessary :(( I take classes with two old ladies, and when I say old, I mean really old. They are over 70! I wish them all the best !!
That's true. It gives me a headache seeing men so passive like him. You have 4 kids, you can't learn korean and you complain you can't find a job, and when you get a job you aren't even proactive. How the hell do you expect to be successful ?
Very true, however, he needs more than just learning Korean language. He was tortured, thus he needs to see mental health help. I'm not sure how mental health is receive in south Korea.
Omg I’m Liberian too! My father fled the war because people were trying to find him because he wasn’t a supporter of the regime. This story is amazing.
Chioma Onyeche Oops, I wasn't correcting your or anything, I was just adding to what you originally posted. I should've made that clearer and I understood what you implied in your original post.
Liberia is also an African country. i believe all African countries have similar cultures. she wasn't wrong about the culture, it because society is changing it tends to be an old fashion for people. but yet still Africa is Africa
+Mariam Osman Gbessay buy that's like saying british culture is the same as Spanish and Ukraine. they are both countries in Europe. europe is europe. but evidently that isn't the case as they differ a lot
Love this series ! Wow, african women are so hard working ! Im pretty sure Fate is going to go through a lot of hard stuff for some years to come, but I'm sure and I hope it will be worth it and her life is gonna turn great for her and her family !
As an African let me clear up the misconception this video has made about us, first of all there are 54 countries in Africa and we all have different cultures, when she says “we do/don’t do this in Africa” she means Liberia, I’m not from Liberia so I wouldn’t know. But I’m Nigeria where I’m from we are allowed to visit friends houses without any age restrictions if it’s in the same neighbourhood but if it’s not tell your parents so they know. The thing about doing male and female assigned roles it’s still a thing for the older generations cos they are quite conservative; for the younger generations the roles are starting to change but not rapidly, hopefully in the coming years it will be different. And chores most people don’t doing laundry with their hands until they are like 14, where I’m from, I’m not sure about other countries in Africa. Kids are given lighter chores to do but we all have to do chores so we aren’t lazy.
Honestly, i've washed the plates since very young and sometimes sweeped the floor and washed the clothes but it was never this harsh. My mom was very understanding and my mom never really teached us gender traditional roles...more like stuffs so we could be able to handle ourselves on our own. Both my parents are cameroonian and i know my cousins are brought up the same way so it's not that my parents are especially kind. We did have age and hour restrictions for going out but i know it's not an african thing because my neighbors and my cousins didn't. My parents were just extremely focused on our education and it was the main focus of my childhood, which did pay off since i skipped two classes, speak two languages fluently and midly understand 2 others, and school is never really hard for me. This was so stereotyped tbh, this is just an african family under rough circumstances, a lot aren't like them.
You're right except for the laundry part, I started washing my socks when I was 4years and washed my whole clothes from like 7years old, buy stuff from the market alone from 7years old. I'm a Nigerian as well
I'm Nigerian also, and I wish they didn't generalize so much in this episode. I think parents are different and for some things the parents did in the show, my parents have done others things, they haven't. Like not being able to go to a friend's house. I wasn't able to hang out with my friends outside of school in any way (unless it was strictly for a school project) even till now. But the thing with laundry and house chores, they waited to teach and make me do house chores till I like 10-11 years old. Even at that, they didn't make the work load heavy because they knew I still had school work and school in general to worry about.
I really want to buy them washing machine. So Faight doesn't have to spent hours to wash clothes by her little hands. Unfortunately I don't live in Korea :-(
i don't like how they always say that " in africa we do this all the time, we handle things that way in africa, the man doesnt help in the house and so and so" What i am trying to say is that they always overgenerelize things and it kind of annoys me. People believe in such things if you tell them in that one sided way and they may think that every african handles things like them...But anyways great family!
The generalization thing annoys me, too. I have an African friend that always does this. So after watching this show, I'm starting to think that maybe people from Africa tend to use that line often when explaining why they do things the way they do to non-Africans. :/
Oooh exactly, in fact I hate it when ANY lazy deadbeat husband tells people OUTSIDE his ethnic group that "we all do this in my culture." It's such a cop-out excuse and disrespects their entire ethnic group just because the man can't get his life together. He would never dare say "in Africa we handle household labor like this" to an actually hardworking African husband and father because he knows they'd LAUGH in his slacker face...so he has to lie to Koreans about how patriarchal African families are and hope they believe his excuse due to prejudiced views toward black people. Makes me mad and I'm not even African.
Suits Beards probably not the best example since Swedish and English are part of the same language family and Korean and English are practically oil and water.
18:00 i felt that. as an african female, i always get so frustrated because i’m expected to do so much more than any male does. my dad can’t wash his own plates or else the world is over. at my little brothers age, i was doing so much more, and when me and my older sister decided to ask my mum she said ‘they’re boys, they’re different’. I wake up at around 5 for school, and get home after 5, if i’m washing the plates for all 6 of my family members, and cleaning the house, when do i do my homework and chill. I can’t change my parents, or their mindsets, so it’s up to my generation and the future ones to educate our children, and not have such double standards!
Yess! And if im like on my phone or resting and theres things to clean, they either call me lazy or say i barely do anything. Like bro practically im their maid 😭
What happens when country is fragile or in war? Men do everything. Depending on situation, it's better for either men or women. Women need to think deeper
omg, I see Fate and Angel on a more recent program where them and a bunch of other "foreign" kids who speak fluent Korean interact. they were so cute when they were younger-
kaly I know right. Like the mother can just cornrow their hair instead of putting weave or extensions and straightening it. Their hair is already damaged 😥
Safak Frank You clearly know NOTHING about black people's hair. Their hair is damaged af (probably from a relaxer) and I think I saw one of them with lost edges.
my edges hurt just watching her braid, because I can see she didn't leave even 1 baby hair out. There is no braids like getting them done by an African lady.
i love this, thanks kbs for putting them in one of these episodes. But i only just hope that people in korea dont start thinking that the whole of africa is at war or poverty.
I think Fate will have a very similar experience to many kids who grew up in a country different than their parents. My parents immigrated when they were in their early 20s so they sort of assimilated into American culture since they spent most of their 20s in the US before raising kids, but there definitely were parts where the immediate culture around me, and the culture that my parents grew up in conflicted. It's hard navigating this. Really hard. You want to respect your parent's culture, but you also want to experience the culture your friends and classmates all live. I sure hope Fate and the other girls are getting through it well.
This episode caused me to become *so* frustrated with the parents! Treating the eldest daughter Faith (not Fate) like a babysitter, maid (kids can do chores, but not as much as that!), restricting access to visit friend's homes and then expecting her to cope with schoolwork is insane beyond all belief! Why does someone need a teacher to tell them its affecting their daughter, when it should be abundantly clear to any sane person that that is abusive behaviour? It should be common sense that having the girls' hair neatly cornrowed etc would save them time in the mornings and protect their hair from damage from all that straitening and terribly done weave-ons? Thankfully, the parents have started learning Korean, but what were they doing in the past - just reproducing? I hope that baby is their last, as they can't afford nor cope with any more kids, forget about the large families being the norm back home. As the kids learn more Korean, as long as they still can speak pidgin, they should be able to communicate to a degree. The husband, for being as unhelpful at home as he is, seems completely absent minded, which could be due to torture or something else. The Liberian English translations in the English subtitles aren't always accurate, but again, their accents aren't always the clearest to decipher. Liberia is in *West Africa* and the first woman's hair she was braiding was relaxed hair, not 'short and curly', which denotes natural, afro-textured hair.
Pray for her mother and Fate. We should all do that. That little girl and her mother Martha have too many responsibilities. Pray that Jerome becomes more self aware amd does his responsibilities. I was laughing and smiling g when the Korean host told Jerome his beliefs are that of his Korean grandfather from 50 years ago and that he should really do chores.
Agreed. That girl is 9 years old with way too much burden on her shoulders. Let her be a kid. I don't have an issue with Martha if she's learned from her mistakes. She was raised in that kind of culture, so sometimes it takes an outsider telling you you are hurting your child's well-being for you to open your eyes. She's 9 so its not too late to change. And the hair OMG. Is going natural or doing a protective hair style worse than going around with your hair flying straight up??? I don't get that at all. How're you a hairstylist but you have your kid walking around with busted hair all for the sake of conforming to eurocentric beauty. Its one thing if it looked nice, but she looked wild 80% of the time.
you guys i see what you are trying to say but in an African home being that she is the first child and also a girl she has to do a lot of chores. they call it "training" i guess. usually the first born takes care of the younger siblings and watch over the house; that's how African parents are raised and how they also raise their children. Honestly i don't see it as abuse it is what they believe in. But in all honesty their mentality is messed up
Debby Banks I get that its their culture, but its gotten to a point where its effecting her homework and education. If she plans on living in korea learning the language and becoming educated will help her way more than doing chores her tiny body probably can't handle. I think there's a way to compromise, and I do think its valid to say that we live in a different world nowadays that call for certain behaviors to die down. edit: From my end atleast its less about judging the culture more about concern for the girl
It’s beautiful that the mother showed the effort of wanting to understand Fate and what she is going through and that Martha started to change for her family, it was a good idea to make Fate’s friends help her in her study to feel less pressure and enjoy friendship at the age, the idea of instead of Fate going to her friends’ house they come to hers is also a nice one, I hope they adapt well in Korea
This made me so emotional. I think its easy to judge the parents if you did not grow up in this culture. I recall times where as a 9yr old I had to cook for my family of 6. It didn't feel like I was being mistreated, it was just the culture. I am the oldest daughter so it is my responsibility. Our African parents raise us the best they could in a country that was not their own so we can have a better life than they did. That is why they always push us so hard; it is because they love us.
Im born in singapore my mom is really similar to fate’s mom..at 5 years old i already know how to do chores, cook, take care of my baby sister(a few months old) my brother and i take turns taking care of her (morning & afternoon school) because our mom has to go to work and our stepdad is a deadbeat druggy.alot of the things i learn at that age helps me alot throughout growing up..trust me its not that bad
I cried all along the program like I’ve been through the same situation as Fate and it is really hard to live without feeling love from both of your parents ㅠㅠ
Lisa #1 Fan I'm happy and proud of them for making the best of their situation. moving to a new country and adopting a foreign lifestyle is extremely difficult and distressing. There life is so difficult but they handle their hardships like a champ. God help this family.
I really don't want to be that person, but their mama needs to stop relaxing and doing their hair like that. Just let them go natural so their hair can flourish.
I think people shouldn’t judge. I’m happy that Korea is embracing to these immigrants. Especially the teacher who is passionate about helping his student. Warms my heart to see accepting people. This world can be very harsh ❤️
The husband says that he feels sorry for the wife yet he just sits there ? I just don't understand. Poor her she's the one who works for both in and outside
This is quite interesting. They still stick with their cultures gender norms even while in another country. That husband is a worthless human being. His wife works all day and night and cleans the house, while he is just looking for a job. He could at least help her with the house a bit. Like I have never seen a husband not offer to help. I still don't understand why that little girl can't have friends and got to their house. She is in a new country and is trying to adapt. Having friends makes life easier. They are making their daughter have such a hard life and yet they came to Korea for a better one.
If you go to Itaewon, in Seoul, there are many beauty salons where you can get your hair done like that. Hope you enjoy your stay in Korea! I'm flying on Thur for 3 week vacation! Can't wait!! :)
Am I the only one angry at Martha for giving way too much responsibility to Fate? And forbidding her from having friends! She's 9 and she should play, study and have friends smh. How backwards
I'm American Filipino and this is how I was raised with cleaning after school & homework too lol. It's a big no no on visiting a friend's house. My parents must meet my friend's family before I can come over. I understand that back where my family is from, every one was related or knew each other like that. Generation of Kids were made to help with farming
@@cindyfern bad parenting is bad parenting. Stop using culture as an excuse! My mother taught us to do chores but she always did the heavy duty work. She made us wash our own dishes, clean up after eating, wash our socks and school uniform but she would do the main cleaning and washing. It was just to teach us responsibility. I never washed my brothers' clothes and I could hang out with friends after doing homework and my chores for the day!
That husband has to try harder, he's not in Africa anymore. It's been 9 years and he still can't comprehend the language, he doesn't help his wife, and they selfishly made their 9 year old daughter into a maid. If it weren't for that teacher calling out that selfish mother on tv, that poor kid would still be doing maid service. Those kids need to be in some kind of protective services, or at least be monitored by a social services agency. And stop having kids you can't afford.
The 9 year old daughter is definitely more responsible than some adults out there, Therese really nothing wrong w it, I was raised in an Asian household and we have to learn early and be responsible.
Poor Fate, since she is the eldest child, she gets pushed into doing all the household chores and baby sitting but she is doing it all with a dance, literally. Hope she grows up to have a good life, she deserves it.
I just feel that Fate's Mom should consider her daughters education and not having her do so much adult work at home. It looks like all the pressure is on her and all that Fate should do is learn and have friends. It's not wrong to have friends, you're in South Korea not Africa, you moved to you can have a better life with your children. Be mindful that you're hurting your child and her feelings. The way you're pressuring her she might feel less to achieve and strive better for her family. I totally feel the stress, the strict rules, very closed mind since my parents are from Central America and they moved to the U.S. to have a better life but 2 different cultures colliding is pretty stressful. Again, Fate is doing her best but her parents need to think of lifting some work off from a 9 year old.
I get what u mean but if ur African like I am, no matter what country u live, ur taught how to clean, cook and plait hair and shop etc... cuz it's like a life skills for them. I'm 14 and I was taught how to plait when I was 7 and now I plait very good (box braids). Those skills help them to b a better person when they r older and very independent.
Also as this very bright young boy put it towards the end, you need to learn the Korean customs and how to communicate with them. This is how society works. You can't keep to just your customs and culture. Plus, this child will be so rich when she's older. Already bilingual at such a young age (possibly understands a 3rd language) and knows about two completely different worlds. She should not be taught to stick to her culture only.
+EXO 주리 yeahh but maybe the African mother thinks if u live a tough world u got to work hard. It's a thing that every African "mother" does to make the child prepared for life. They probably don't know the korean way of living and the lady coming from strict background r impacted on the child cuz she is looking out for fate. thank God that the Young teacher told her what was going on because fates mother now knows that she is bringing africa to korea. once again it's what Africans do
Someone rescue Faith. This is not about "Africa", Martha is treating her own daughter like a maid. She is 9 and cannot do basic maths. She is under developing because of abuse from home.
So true...she should let her hang around her friends more she’s really young and it would help her learn Korean better and be more accustomed to the culture...she treats her like a teenager it’s kinda sad
When you are older its hard to learn a language. My grandmother and aunt has been living in the U.S since 2000 and they try really hard but it's hard for them. Their brains doesn't connect the words all the time.
It's scientifally proven that males have a harder time learning language in general so it would be the hardest for the dad to pick it up since he is old and he is a male
I'm glad Fate has friends! I also feel bad for the mom too. Well, the whole family. They work so hard. But when the mom mentioned that they can't go to a friends house until they're 15, that's kind of mean. Like, she's a kid. Let her have friends.

The only disturbing part is that they use a lot of " in Africa " instead of the name of their country . Africa is a continent with different countries and cultures .
And Liberia is in West Africa not Southern Africa. They have no clue what they are talking about.
Dude, if a Liberian show made an episode on Korea it would probably feature Chinese music in the background and Kung Fu sound effects. Let it go...
too distant to know
The mother used it a lot, so they are just following her lead. 18:00 29:52
Do you refer to the USA as the USA or as America?
I see a lot of comments on how they are integrating their OWN African culture into them living in Korea. I don't see the problem with they having their African culture while they are living in Korea. They can't be like "okay let's drop everything we know about the country we were born in and live in Koreans."
like wtf is this. Please try and be more respectful.
yeah i agree with that but koreans just want them to be part of their society and that they try to fit in, i understand both sides... but still :-/
if you go and live in another country, YOU MUST adopt their culture. Otherwise it will hinder social cohesion and it wont help them either. Ive lived in the UK where there is too much multiculturalism.

Lol, my asian parents think the same way too. But I tried my best to learn at least cooking since it doesn't hurt to cook for myself if I wanna give myself a delicious meal now and then :P
glad im a spoiled kid from australia :)
Frr Nigerians have too high expetations. If id o get married he's probz gonna be korean and not so ajebo from nigeria
Fate and Angel were so young.
This episode is so sweet and encouraging! I love how the teacher was so concerned about Fate and how he encouraged her mother to be more patient, more understanding and tender with her daughter. Korean people in this episode were so kind to this African family even the Korean children. It made me cry!
Martha is raising 5 kids. her husband is the 5th child.
UGH!

Fate is still a baby, she should be playing, having friends and not worry about doing all the chores around the house. I understand we need to give our children some responsibilities so they learn but this is too much.

the Korean here are so loving and accepting, it make me feel so warm. like the others said, to live happily in another country, you must adapt to the culture. I hope Martha and Jerome will do well in adapting in Korea. Seeing them learn Korean with Fate reminds me of my mother and me. She would watch baby tv shows with me to learn and studied with me when I do homework to learn English. It makes me realize how difficult it had been for her

Aww this makes me really sad that the dad couldn't find a job and the little girl had to be the maid of the house..

I teared up when Martha was talking to Fate's teacher... Fate is such a sweet and hardworking child, I hope things go well for this family.
Imo he really isn't trying hard enough~
they probably had a kid by accident, like they didn't have access to birth control or something like that, and I don't think abortions are legal in Korea so they really didn't have a choice I guess :/ I get what you're saying though it was really irresponsible and I agree 1000% on the father thought like help out around the house if you can't get work
@Miss Itan maybe they just love kids,
Well to be honest when you are from a country who had a war and you remember
all those horribles memories it’s hard to get over and specially when you came to an unfamiliar country you don’t want to be alone. That’s why maybe they have 4 kids. In my case, I’m from Afghanistan and we are 6 siblings because we don’t have family in Canada....
@@aliali-hd8vz you can have kids but if you cant provide for them its better to not start with it
In Africa, it is not considered being a maid to take care of your younger siblings.

That's true. It gives me a headache seeing men so passive like him. You have 4 kids, you can't learn korean and you complain you can't find a job, and when you get a job you aren't even proactive. How the hell do you expect to be successful ?

Not to mention, Africa is a continent, so its too broad a tern to refer to 'African culture', really as it doesn't specify which country ...

EXACTLY!! IM NIGERIAN TOO.....how they are generalizing it is so annoying they keep saying 'in Africa' why can't they say 'in Liberia' please.....
I'm a Nigerian as well
I'm a 22 years old woman from Angola, I was never forced to do anything, just school. We had maids to clean the house.
Unfortunately I don't live in Korea :-(
You can see in the video, they do have one. But for some reason they're not using it. I'm guessing they want to save the water/heating bill.
+Jill Thompson oh that blue one? Maybe you're right
Yep plus some Africans don't believe that the washing machine does that good of a job with clothes especially delicates which is what she's washing.

i don't like how they always say that " in africa we do this all the time, we handle things that way in africa, the man doesnt help in the house and so and so" What i am trying to say is that they always overgenerelize things and it kind of annoys me. People believe in such things if you tell them in that one sided way and they may think that every african handles things like them...But anyways great family!

I'm a african and i agree with you. My dad do house chores sometimes
Honestly, my family is not like this.

Fate can exceed in learning Korean. I learnt English at the age of 9, after moving from Sweden. Good luck to Fate and her family💫
Dude.... same 😩
Yess! And if im like on my phone or resting and theres things to clean, they either call me lazy or say i barely do anything. Like bro practically im their maid 😭

i love this, thanks kbs for putting them in one of these episodes.
I sure hope Fate and the other girls are getting through it well.
im soooo proud of fate. i really hope she can be a bright star in the future
Nala D Agreed, wholeheartedly! jellybeanz She needs more than just prayer, she needs an intervention.
you guys i see what you are trying to say but in an African home being that she is the first child and also a girl she has to do a lot of chores. they call it "training" i guess. usually the first born takes care of the younger siblings and watch over the house; that's how African parents are raised and how they also raise their children.

The 2 boy is better than other adult they so respectful.
Now both of them are teenagers 😄and turned in to beautiful ladies❤️
Fate is such a cute and pretty child
Aww David is like a doll. Too cute 💙
The 9 year old daughter is definitely more responsible than some adults out there, Therese really nothing wrong w it, I was raised in an Asian household and we have to learn early and be responsible.
I seriously teared up when the guy started talking about how he lost his family and got tortured. Gah. ;-; Sha, they are such a beautiful family.
Those skills help them to b a better person when they r older and very independent.
it's like, if ur education doesn't go well, u can make loads of money by plaiting people
EXO 주리 yeahh but it's what African parents pass on. As for my example.
They probably don't know the korean way of living and the lady coming from strict background r impacted on the child cuz she is looking out for fate. thank God that the Young teacher told her what was going on because fates mother now knows that she is bringing africa to korea. once again it's what Africans do
Why would you put weave on a small child? I'm a proud Nigerian, but this family somehow frustrates me. Too many errors. God bless her children though.
xoxoVnGxoxo That weave is insane. That mama should be slapped. Braid her damn hair. Take that shit out of her hair.
xoxoVnGxoxo
I am proud to be african, but i somehow find this family frustrating too especially the husband
I don't know why I thought it was her natural hair in it's stretched form 😭 so many Africans love to do that...I don't know why
i’m also nigerian and i also found the family frustrating
After seeing this I understand why Fate is the way she is now. Poor baby girl😥
There are so many layers to this story. I wish the family well.
Fate that's the uniqueness of been born an African. we love music and dancing. keep on lil gal it'll take you far .much love from a Kenyan ( in M.E)
As a Liberian 🇱🇷 watching this bring a lot of smile on my face 😘😍😘.
Came back to watch this after seeing Fate and Angel all grown up ☺️.
What’s it called?
@@kayla6994 yes there too but it is in the same channel too, my neighbor Charles new episodes.
@@qiaopescao that’s so funny cause I was watching that and didn’t even realize it was her
Again I’m here because I need faith and angel content ,their family is so cute .
They lived on Korea for 9 years?? Why haven't they learned korean?
When you are older its hard to learn a language. My grandmother and aunt has been living in the U.S since 2000 and they try really hard but it's hard for them. Their brains doesn't connect the words all the time.
yeah , they get extra hardships because of this :(
It's scientifally proven that males have a harder time learning language in general so it would be the hardest for the dad to pick it up since he is old and he is a male
I'm glad Fate has friends! I also feel bad for the mom too. Well, the whole family. They work so hard. But when the mom mentioned that they can't go to a friends house until they're 15, that's kind of mean. Like, she's a kid. Let her have friends.
UPDATE: I just finished the video. I'm glad her mom let her have friends over!
Fates almost 15! She’s fourteen now in a recent vid with Ehwa, Daniel, Asia, and her sis. Hopefully they can go out.
it’s not mean it’s just how it is lmao
