Hello everyone! Here I am, just in time for the weekend 😁😁 We're back with the series in Thailand, this time taking you on a train ride from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, in the north of the country. For those of you in the USA, happy Thanksgiving weekend 🙏. Just a reminder, this trip was before the lockdown, that's why almost nobody is wearing masks. Stay safe and a big hug from both of us 🤗🤗
For anyone considering this trip, I would strongly recommend taking the last train of the evening. You'll spend the following morning passing through the mountains of north Thailand, an amazing experience; if you take the earlier trains, you'll pass though them in the dark!
The most amazing part of the train trip for me was, that when you leave, you are in the middle of the city. When waking up in the train the next morning, the beautiful view of nature was awesome.
I went to Chiang Mai during Loy Krathong 2017 and I’ve always been wanting to come back again ever since. It’s a really peaceful and friendly city that’s so similar to my hometown Jogjakarta, Indonesia.
I did the same same journey in second class. No complaints . I had a lower bunk and a bed that was wide enough for two people. Enjoyed breakfast in bed looking out of the huge picture window. A really great trip better experience than flying or coach.
Things have changed quite a bit on that rail trip since I last took it about eight years ago. The cars are much improved with better sleepers and showers. At that time alcohol was allowed and they even had a party car. From 8pm till 12 the dining car would transform, lights went down music went up, you took a seat where you could find one. There were people from around the world what a blast. Your video brought back some good memories keep up the good work...
I took in 1979 the first time second class overnight the same train. It was so beauteful and comfortable. And in the Restaurant we got cold “Singha beer“.(lions beer) Greetings from Germany from DANIEL.
Hello there, I’m Thai, live in Chiangmai and have never been on train in Thailand before. This is not what I expected at all! . So nice, clean and looks comfortable, have to try some point in my life. Nice to watch your video. ^^
I've done the train 3 times, 2 were 3rd class and one was 1st class. I had a better experience in 3rd class myself. It was more fun for me as a solo traveller and I met a group of people that I hung around with In Chiang Mai.
I've been planning a trip to Thailand since last year. Too bad it failed because of the pandemic. I was very happy to find your video about the trip to Thailand and was helpful to me with a travel plan. Thank you Renata and have a great day💕
Really enjoyed this. I love the thought of taking a long train ride and watching the scenery stream by. Love how clean and convenient the cabins are. Will definitely try if I ever go Thailand.
Always loved long distance overnight train travel, 1st class of course, far less hassle than flying, and city center to center, saves the cost of an hotel room and if travelling for just a meeting two nights rooms, will we ever be doing that again! Bonus of often a fine dining car and bar all with scenery passing. One of these days will get to do one of the famous 4 - 5 day ones.
Did this trip back in 2018 was beautiful falling asleep coming out of the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and waking up in rural Thailand 🇹🇭 just beautiful 🤩
Been they done it.. been going Thailand for over 20 years .. you have lot to learn.. UA-cam all same ... who cares your on train show sumthing different beside talking train trip.. do anything about Thailand...
@Smoken I've been going to Thailand for 35 years and lived there for 15 years. I've never done this trip on a train so I enjoyed the video very much. Nobody is forcing you to watch it.
Hope you enjoy the trip I dont take the local train like 10 years the last time was taking from BKK to KL the AC was freeze me to death. If you guys back to Thailand again in few months dont be surprised if Hua Lum Pong is no longer operating it will turn in to a museum maybe. Bangkok new Terminal is Bangsue Grand station (also connected to the MRT) it suppose to open this year but it bein posponed. Thailand been heavily building infrastructure a lot lately especially the rail system in both capital and regional what you guys took was a single track rail it cant be quick cause it have to wait to change to gauge so double track rail is a resonable solution and it under construction across the country along with the first high speed train line that going to connect betweeb Bangkok and China through Laos it also under-construction in both Laos and Thailand the Laos part might be complete ealier since China builds everything while Thailand part being built and founded by Thai companies it absolutely might take a while but 5 years according to plan.
Oh wow! That train will be amazing! And good to know Thailand is investing on a faster service. That was the only downside of the train, as it could be faster. And so interesting to hear about the plans for a future station! Yeah, when we're back we'll probably have to create another video 😉😊
Another great video and great idea for traveling in thailand. Maybe I will try this train on daylight ? Thank you very much for this video Renata and keep your lovely smile.
Look amazing! I am Thai but never tried 1st class train before becuase it 's so overwhelmed and quickly fulled. The 1st class seats are very limited. Thank for sharing and hope you back to Thailand again soon.
This is the first time I have seen a video of yours. It took me about 2 seconds to want to subscribe! You both seem like very nice and pleasant people. I really enjoyed the video. I am looking forward to watching your other videos.
Watching your vdo with smile. Even I have my car in Thailand but I still want to travel by train around the country again when I can go back home without quarantine.
Greetings from Thailand😀 I can see you guys had a wonderful time in all of Thailand. Thank you for sharing beautiful videos. You are always welcome back to our country.😃
I love your video! the new main train station will be moved to Bangsue grand station so soon, because Hua Lumphong is very old now. the new one is quite modern, it really looks like Suvarnabhumi Airport. you should visit Thailand again when the pandemic is over. we all are delighted to welcome all of you :)
Thank you for visiting its! We all really hope to see you again after the covid-19 pandemic. And remeber, We are always ready to welcome and smile at you, Hope to see you again!
your vdo is so lifeful. I've seen more than 10 reviews for this train but yours is the best. for more info, the 2nd class costs almost half the price of 1st class, but don't forget to bring sleeping eye mask with you as the light in the cabin is always on all night for security purpose.
WOW!!! Amazing blogging. Outstanding presentation and blogging. I am absolutely overwhelmed to Chiangmai after longtime. I had been in Chiangmai in 2014. Anyway stay blessed and stay safe. 💓🌷🙏
Hi Renata, I'm really excited to see your husband's / Gordon funny face when he is asked strange things. LOL. 😅 I'm from Indonesia, n I've watched all of your vlogs when you were on vacation in Indonesia, ✌️
So cute!!! Vero nice!!!! My last trip in Thailand I can’t visit Chang Mai, so I will come in the future, and I’ll journey with the night train. Thank you, I learned something special and important by you!!! ❤️❤️ Gordon is incredible
I always fly to Chiang Mai w/my parents by plane. Normally, we arrange for a private tour guide to pick us up at the airport and take care of us for the whole trip. It's expensive but worth the convenience. I visited Chiang Mai 3 times so far. BTW, I'm from the US. Regardless, I enjoyed watching your video. You're very personable. 👍😁👍
Becareful traveling in Chiang Mai, everything's going into a semi lockdown again because someone illegally crossed the Myanmar border and she went to nightclubs, shopping malls etc and she was later diagnosed with covid
Very nice video, and got me thinking about where to go once borders open. I am an American who lives in St Petersburg Russia for 2 decades and we have had border restrictions since last Feb. Technically I could leave but I would not be able to return until the borders are returned to normal. It would be great to visit Thailand again, it was 12 years ago the last time. I rented a small motorcycle and explored the north. A very interesting happy time. I prefer trains after getting so tired of air. Years ago air travel was expensive but the service was great, food good, and easy....buy a ticket at the counter and just walk onto the plane without the security lines, regardless of where you bought the ticket the price was the same. Often I would just go to the airport in San Francisco and buy the first ticket going out of the country without planning. That was pretty exciting because I ended up in places I never would have picked if I planned trip in detail.. My main work was in music production(recording engineer/producer and studio owner) and I never knew when something was going to be finished. So I kept a travel bag in the trunk of my car and if a project was finished after 2-3 months of work, I did not even go home, but straight to the airport and fly out for 2 weeks. Back then there ws no security so buying a ticket and walking to the plane and take my seat was the norm. Everyone I met in Thailand seemed to be very kind-hearted and gracious, going to little villages and using hand gestures alone was enough for basic communications. I was interested in the culture and daily life outside modern cities. I stayed out of the nightlife thing that has a million single men going to for bar girls or vacation girlfriends. Thanks for the information, images and enthusiastic presentation. Maybe this spring if the border opens.....
Wow an American in St. Petersburg. How does that happen? We have a few videos of St P....loved the summer solstice there. It rivals Venice for history and romance, no? It seems you know how to live...work and explore. Love the getting to know the country outside the cities. Thank you for watching

I like that they set up the bed for you for the night. This Thai sleeper train is better and more modern than Amtrak from DC to Miami.
Different perspective about trains as a means for transportation. We could use that in North America....especially on the east coast.
Can't wait for the next Chiang Mai video❤️❤️❤️ Stay safe Renata and Baby Gordon
