    As this is the final version of the concerto (1941), I guess he would have recorded this some time between 1941 and his death in 1943. Therefore he would have been between 68-70 yrs old!

    Although this concerto is not as popular as the others, it’s my favorite. And, in spite of the very poor quality of the sound of this recording (tinny), to hear the composer playing it the way it was intended, clams and all (forgiven!) is the ultimate in soul food. Thank you, sir.

    "it is russian Nature (not only it, of course, but...), Novgorod-city on Volkhov-river, if you saw it, when you hear this music you can see it again in your imagination... atmosphere maybe partly like lyrical parts (only visual) of film "Alexander Nevsky" by Eisenstein for example... The beginning of the Concerto is like "ringing" of a leaves of birch trees at the begining of autumn... IMHO Thank You very much!".

    I hope someone has improved the sound quality somewhere and I find it one day.
    Being able to listen to the composer play such a stupendous piece is mind blowing. But the sound quality is a little off-putting and distracting.
    But that should in no way be taken as a criticism of you for uploading it. I am deeply appreciative you have shared it else I would not be able to hear it at all, currently!

      Totally agree with all you said! The sound quality is so disappointing but what a gift to hear the composer perform this magnificent concerto the way it was meant to be!

      Yeah, it has that "really bad recording device" sound, doesn't it. A pathetic microphone/system that keeps getting overwhelmed and cutting the sound to death.

      @@agamaz5650 However, in this case, the original recording is not s..t at all. Remastering with subtle equalization and compression needs to be done by an expert. Even experienced amateurs admit that mastering needs to be done by professionals. It involves much more than just reducing background hiss and increasing dynamic range… As for trying to make mono sound stereo, there are even successful ways of doing that, but it has to be done with extreme care. In this case the quietest sounds have been made practically inaudible, and every other tweak has been similarly overdone. Just listen to the original, which is a much more relaxing experience altogether. Sorry...

  • @wardropper
    @wardropper 2 місяці тому

    It really isn’t worth it to have an amateur try and ‘stereoize’ an old recording. The original already sounds excellent for its day. This rendering is just peculiar. Of course there are potential copyright issues, so I suppose it's better than nothing...

      @@alainspiteri502 It's very subjective so hard to be dogmatic. But objectively, the composer is the best since he is the composer. Subjectively, we might like over versions more for how it speaks to us, but the intention of the author for a piece IS what the piece is supposed to be saying, unless we are going to play the post-modern relativistic game of making ourselves the only objective reality we can accept. In that case, yes, your opinion is your objective reality for you and meaningless outside that.
