I was going to answer NAM just to be a wise guy, but you got me on that one. He broke out LePou so that nobody would ever guess it right. 😂 Yeah, that sounds amazing and really puts things into perspective. We heard it back then, liked it a lot, then 2,500 amp sims later we come back and wonder why we aren't using that instead. I just wish my Laney 50 watt AOE surprised me like this. There is some serious psychology going on with these things, I'll say that much. Thanks for the video, now you got me thinking again. 👑🎸🔥
Good stuff. Honestly at this point there's so much free and awesome sims out there, there's no need to go looking for better unless you have a specific use case. I'm more into finding cool IR's to blend and ...: writing music vs noodling endlessly and tryna convince myself that "this sounds better" etc. it's a fantastic time to just enjoy the tech I have and make something cool with it. NAM and the Nalex Amplex/Truesim plugins are full of great tones for zero bucks. Cheers
You’re right, there’s so many great free amp sims that there’s not really a need to buy more. Plus, when it comes to heavily distorted guitars, the cab/IR is more important There’s only one amp sim that’d I’d still pay money for and a lot at that and it’s for a bass amp: the Traynor TS-50b. Supposedly it has some sort of three stage compression or something, but it has a great grind to it that allows you to crank the treble without it getting clanky. There’s a few NAM captures, but it’s not the same as tweaking the tone stack on the actual amp
Haha! I thought something free but didn't expect this old plugin 😂I use the Lecto mainly though 😅 maybe I should try this one too. I used nalex stuff years ago and used some ML soundlab stuff. But Lecto just rocks! Good low end and no fizz. Cheers!
I gave up buying amp sims ages ago. Not sure they can actually get any better, so I'm sticking with what I have. I gotta revisit the LePou stuff again though 👍
I like the Lepou Engl too 👍 5:35 But hmm, u seem to have different IR's than in my Catharsis pack 🤔 I don't have any of those "awesome pulses" nor the Recto Cab. I guess those were in the OG pack? I was trying to find a legitimate download link for these last year, but the best I found was PluginFox, which also includes 1 new Catharsis IR!
Yea lepou sims are still legit i still use them, they were always my litmus test whenever something new and shiney was released. 8/10 i never parted with my cash as these were so good. Lecto still sounds amazing. I mainly use NAM now, another freebie putting payware and hardware to shame.
i like to think of it simply as differently flavours i have the impression we've reached a point where you can either look at an amp sim in how good it sounds compared to the real amp (which maybe you've never even had or played through before) or how good does it sound on it's own merits case in point I think Buster (Humanity's Last Breath Vildhjarta) still uses Podfarm as it just has that sound
Modern plugins in 2024 and more mix ready impulses have progressed a lot and have excellent sound compared to old paid or free products. But for beginners, even old free plugins and impulses will be a good choice for home recording 🤘
Thx for another great video I think a lot about this subject as well. Great stuff I have the same plug-in and I would never guess I thought it was something like P.R.O.T.O.four . Hope you don’t get uninspired for long ur my go to guy for this kind of stuff plug-ins and cabs and pedals and Yara Yara Yara .
No wayy haha when the LePou came up I was like damn! They (including Legion and Lecto) were the first ones that I used back in 2017 that actually sounded really good. Things that were out before that like Guitar Rig & Amplitube I was never very impressed with. Then my friend in a death metal band sent me the Poulin FREE amp sim pack and I was like are you shitting me? lol.
Well said - the market is oversaturated. Free amps did the trick years ago and they still do. NAM isn't my favorite thing but it dumbs it down even further. I just like Nalex, Vadim and LePou stuff.
Went to download it and when you do the Plugin, it doesn’t show up in the download for math. It’s just a bunch of writing business. This link needs to be directed to the actual company. Is this Plugin still available and free?
@@resington hmm ok ya I thought so, sorry if that sounded accusatory man. I wrote a fair bit and posted it but it didn't have anything edgy going on, just pure nerd talk. So I was just saying that Catharsis was created by Ryan Harvey at his own studio (Catharsis studios) and I messaged him many years ago asking how he did it and he basically said it was simply a 57 on a Mesa OS pointed at the cone-crease, like everyone else does. He said he even accidentally bumped into it and didn't bother to fix it, so could be a happy accident. He pretty much chalked it up to dumb luck. It's nearly the most perfect IR for metal if you look at it with a spectral analyzer. It has a bit of a HP/LP, bumped lower mids, scooped central mids, bumped upper highs (the standard boob-shaped EQ). The only imperfection is the extreme high end that needs to be deleted with a LP filter. Buster from Humanity's Last breath uses that one for a lot of his own records and many other people's. I saw in a video where he loaded TSE X50 just for the Ryan Harvey cabinet section and also TSE 808 before. I guess he doesn't know that TSE 808 comes standalone and Catharsis is an IR pack. A bit of an inefficient plugin path but ya, his albums sound monstrous. And it's wild how good LePou's stuff was early on. Alain Poulin is the man for making such excellent metal amp sims for free very early on. He probably could have sold them for $99 each at the time. Everyone learned from LePou and Ignite.
What else can there be for the future? I haven't been doing this no where near even half as long as you, and I find myself uninspired with sims too. I love amp locker and NAM. Where do we go as far as making content now? BTW, I'm sure you saw the big rip off sims Universal Audio kmjust releases. What a rip off
Lepou and VTar (Vadim Taranov) stuff is still pretty good. I strongly recommend Noise suppression from VTar.
Absolutely loved 456 and Legion back in the day. Still play with legion from time to time and when paired with a good OD and IR, it still slays.

LePou Legion is still my favourite plugin ever
S present high is still a go to for me.
Le456 and Lecto is awesome plugins! I produce and record my last EP using this free monsters.
Great video, great point.
Using recent stuff but my good ol' LexTac ampsim into old Two Notes DynIR Engl cabsim still sounds awesome to me.

Holy sh**, that guitar tone sure is a punch in the gut (in a good way of course)
I remember using LePou stuff in bloody 2012 did they really sound that good?! Damn dude... 😂
I loved this one and lecto for rhythm and lextac and solo for leads. But ya i have gotten underwelmed with amp sims in general. Great vid! 😎👍🏻

Man NAM is so cool, I don't want to try anything else! 🤣🤣😂😂 I'll take a wild guess and say you're using a guitar! 🤔🤔🤔🤔

I used hardware Engl style preamp back then, wasn`t really Lepou fan. I`d say there`s a huge leap made after
I love the 456… that was my go to until I got Termless
I'm more of a bass player but I like to play guitar as well. I just purchased the STL Tones Wes Borland plugin. Oh man is it good.
Sound Great.
Cheers!

I was gonna guess Legion. I'd say i was pretty close
Oh and catharsis?? I shoulda known

Do you want do video with this amp sim or other free amp sim with jzir cabs?
@@DECEIVERGR done a lot JZIR. Any sim sounds good with his stuff.
Ugritone proto four
@@michaelj.anderson1116 another great sim!
What's the name of the IR pack you using ?
Catharsis
The answer to your question is yes 😝
I stopped buying amp sims when I discovered your channel. There's so much out there now for nothing it's become a bit of a worm hole.

Hey man, it should be on plugins4free.
Which DAW is that?
Reaper
Spoil : no but shhhhhh 🤫
did you delete my comment?
@@mattvdh no, what comment? If it had abuse UA-cam deletes those automatically. I never delete comments.
