In this episode we check out a beautiful abandoned temple with a theater inside. It was once home to a fraternal organization known as the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, but today sits in decay.

I'm a really new follower...I found you guys by accident and immediately blacked out....2 days later, I find myself here.
I think that this is my favorite video (so far, I'm still working through the lists.)..purely for one reason.
Without The Shriner's, I would not be alive....or nowhere near the condition I'm in (which isn't the best, but better than was expected.)
They funded the surgery I needed to be able to walk (That 20% chance I was given can suck it!), taught me how to take care of myself, and helped my mother with the lists of important paperwork we had to file so that I had the support I needed as a kid.
People can hate on societies like this all they want, but The Shriner's are an amazing group.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this video.

This is the abandoned Irem Temple Shrine located in Northeast Pennsylvania.
It was build in 1907 during the industrial revolution, and has been claimed one of the nation's most significant examples of Moorish Revival architecture. It was part of the modern-day Shriners association, which was established in 1870, and the organization has become one of the best children's hospital associations in the U.S.

@Timothy Dexter Take a deep breath. You are correct and incorrect. You just cant see the bigger picture. Tell me if this makes sense. YES. You and I both agree that this was an intentional act to kill people on board that were against the FED Reserve. Totally agree with that. The OLYMPIC was a damaged ship so much so it couldnt be insured. So it was rebranded the titanic. They were intentionally going to sink the ship (btw , I dont buy the iceberg narrative its always been my belief the hull was intentionally weakened at dock) 3 things are accomplished. 1 Disposing of powerful people that are going agsinst you're agenda, 2 scuttling a ship with a bad list that will eventually break down and sink anyways 3 collecting on insurance that previously you woukd not be able to collect on. If the insurance wasnt paid out it would have been a total loss and bankrupted the shipping co. You see where I'm coming from? Don't get yourself pigeonholed on one idea. Always look at the biggger picture thats in front on you. Enjoy your day.

They go into a diverse array of buildings, from homes to industrial places--no one can be an expert on every old piece of material or machinery they come across. People in the comments who know what something is used for will comment.
They have said before that sometimes they stumble across buildings without much planning and go in--or like this one, they figure out what it was during or after they were there and update their commentary with voice over.

I started suspecting that I knew which building this was at the start, but the shots of the theater confirm it is the local temple! The building dates back to 1908. I find artifacts from this particular Shrine chapter all over the place; lighters, bottle openers, even a mid-50s fez! Fascinating to get an up close view of things. Work is still ongoing to raise funds for its restoration as an event venue and performance space.

What a lot of ignorant, foolish, and mean spirited people you and your ilk are. None of the masonic organizations are secret. They do hold certain elements of their ceremonies to be confidential for members only, but they are otherwise open to public scrutiny. Their financial dealings are a matter of public record, their annual officer assignments are posted and announced in the papers, their meeting times and places are as well, and every year they have public ceremonies and activities as well as member only functions. If you really want to know all the "secrets," the ritual, or book of ceremonies is in the library of congress! For heavens sake.....go ask a member how much "secrecy" is involved.. Members consider it a matter of character to be able to keep confidences, and believe that good character encourages trust and respect. They are not sinister, they do not have deep dark designs on our souls or society, and there is no such thing as the "illuminati" People like you, who love to pass on rumors and gossip as fact without knowing what you are talking about are more of a danger and problem to our society, than this organization who take seriously their commitment to bettering society, bettering each other by their associations, and benefiting the ill, injured, and disadvantaged children who benefit from the efforts and hard work made on their behalf.

Diana, it does not matter how upset you get, the facts are the facts, the shriners are a part of freemasonry and freemasonry is a huge part of the illuminati and the illuminati are the scum of this planet. They kill whomever they please and steal whatever they please. They had a plan to destroy this planet - "Order out of Chaos". And yes, I do agree that many thousands of people may have become involved in the shriners because they are good folks and wanted to do go things as the original poster of this thread obviously did. However, now that the ties to islam are so very apparent I think any shriner who does not #walkaway form it is a traitor to America! I will NEVER give another dime to a shriner. I will be calling them out for what they are doing. I will be asking them to explain to me why they dress up and act like children on like cars and dress like clowns and why they exploit the American people in the name of Allah. And yes, they swear an oath on the karan (Misspelled to show my disdain) to Allah when they join and go through initiation. I am done with the deep state/illuminati agenda and I am done with traitors in my country! The Great Reckoning is coming for all of us and I cannot be someone supporting a group of people who support a false God!!! Done!

I am local to this location and I can shed some insight into the locations future: Several times in recent years there have been talk of refurbish (or at least rehabbing) the building to house local business and hold events there once again. I cannot now find the article, but once it closed from being the Shriners Temple, some local businesses did rent out the space. Recently there was more talk of rehabbing the building and there were surveyors inside, as you mentioned in your video. I know these surveyors did close off our point of entry (we were recently going to go back for an update video), but I know there were several more dangerous access points. Seeing as you mentioned this and you were wearing T-shirts, I think you guys gained entry the same way we did. The city and a group of individuals have been working together to gain estimates on doing the needed work to stabilize and preserve the building. it's nice to see almost a year after I explored the location it is still in the same condition. But someone put up a ladder to the dome! I had to climb on top of some speakers and jump up there. Did you see the piano on the loft across from the dome access point? And was the safe still in the first small room you entered in the basement with a note?

Ive seen these stories before, and they all seem to have the same tragic ending. The answer to the question of how much to restore/rehab a building like this is, to much. Generally speaking, appreciating the architecture, style and history of the building isn't enough, and unfortunately when the numbers get on the table the ultimate conclusion is, well its cheaper to rip it down. Unless they can find a way to profit from the restored building. Same sad story that happens over and over, because all some people (unlike us) care about is the profit.

    • @jeffgrantMEDIA

sparkplug1018 i tried, but couldn’t find the article when posting. But the number is in the millions. And unfortunately there is a large theater house only blocks away. Though not nearly as nice and ornate. But. About 12-15 miles north there is a Masonic Temple that is beautiful and fully functional. In all likelihood the building will not be rehabilitated. And that really is a shame.

Jacky ignore the FJB troll...he is the one who sucks. One thing I will point out is, in the audio business, you want a room with ZERO echo (or what is often called a "dead" or "neutral" room.) A highly live room such as shown in the video would be great for making music, but terrible for audio testing as the multiple delays and standing waves would make measurements meaningless. In cinema, we strive for a very slight "live" room, but a room that is too "dead" or even "neutral" makes for very poor/unnatural sound quality.

The bit with the ropes and weights you showed at 14:41 is called "The Rail". These ropes would have been counter-weighted and perfectly balanced so a single person could "fly" the backdrops - and other scenery - in and out. Also, the "electricals" would be on this rail. This would include lighting "instruments" arrayed on long bars. These could have been flown in to aim, make adjustments, change "gels" (or colors) and replace their light bulbs. The lighting board you showed is decidedly old school. Nowadays, there is a single person with a computer at the front house to control the lighting. But in the old days - there would have been several people standing back - there waiting for cues from a stage manager. The lights you showed upstairs are the spotlights. It's wild they just dropped the fire curtain (at the front of the stage) and left it. I work in a very old theater myself, so all this stuff is very familiar. Cool video!

You beat me to it! I used to be a master electrician for a much more modern theatre. That lighting "console" belongs in a museum. (hopefully they will preserve it--not many of those still around). The fly rail technology really hasn't changed in like 100 years or so, though.

Did you ever come across the early lighting dimmers where a vat of brine below the stage worked as the resistors. Copper rods controlled from the lighting board were lowered by rope in and out of the brine solution to control the light intensity.
They were used in many of the first London theaters.

    Cheers
P.S. The leaded stain glass dome at 17:31 looks like it was made by Tiffany around the turn of the century between 1900 and 1910!!! Where is this building??? And someone should find out who made the stain glass dome because if it is Tiffany it is worth at least a million dollars!!!!! 😱

The Robbinsdale Shriners (that's in Minnesota) had a strong membership at least through the 1990s. Half the fathers in my neighborhood were members. They held regular pancake breakfasts that were super good, plus the "Flames", the Shriners big band jazz band would play Glenn Miller hits. Of course the money helped fund the Minneapolis Shriners Hospital. Good times.

There's still an active Shriner Temple in Milwaukee, WI. And they do open their doors every year to the public, during Doors Open Milwaukee(architecture open house up there). Which is held the 4th weekend of every September. Had visited the one in Milwaukee before, and you won't be disappointed if you ever choose to visit it.
Also the former such temple in Chicago, later was turned into a Bloomingdale's store surprisingly enough, with the interior mostly left intact. I used to see circus events at the latter, as a kid!

My daughter, now 17, had an operation at a Springfield, Ma. Shiner's Children Hospital about 10 yrs ago. She had 2 bones in her foot that had fused together. They made a small incision, drilled between the 2 bones to separate them, and moved tissue between them to keep them from rubbing together. The Shiner's have 10 burn unit hospitals and 10 orthopedic hospitals in the U.S. Total cost to us, $0. Shiner's paid for it all, didn't even charge our insurance.

Reminds me of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall or the Shriners Temple in Pittsburgh, PA. They were built in around WWII. The interiors were beautiful, like Beul Planetarium was, with carved stone figures, science exhibits like the Smithsonian has, model trains at Christmas, and more, but the political powers and new wealthy in Pittsburgh built new glass and steel convention centers and ripped the beautiful buildings down instead of re-purposing them. The first rock concert I went to was at the Shiners Hall in Pittsburgh, PA. Back in the day, even up into the 1980s, people joined clubs, organizations, hobby groups, instead of staying at home and gaming. Gaming back then was board games or in the woods. I remember joining a club to build model rockets and another club to build radios, in addition to the Scouts. It was a different world.

I used to see the Shriners at every parade I ever went to. A lot of times riding around on tiny motor bikes. That generation is mostly gone now. That was a great generation. In my opinion, the greatest.

    • @zulu0219
      @zulu0219 9 місяців тому

Yes, the older generations carried the traditions until recently and since the world wide rise of Islam in the past 40 years, and especially since the terrorist actions of 9/11, the younger generations of Shriners have had to severely curtail their Arabic parody costuming and public performances They used to dance around in parades dressed like "crazy Arabs" ,and at that time it was humorous and acceptable to the public, and the Shriners certainly meant no harm or offense. Sad, because it was always entertaining to both young and old at parades and public events.

@@robb2055 That dome is so badass! You know what I started thinking that the dome is? It looks like it could be a sort of planetarium, judging from the electric lights right above its perimeter. You could select the particular lights which emulate the sun and our position relative to the sun. Some of the cords also had loops tethered in them, as if for being able to lower those lights.
