Given cats are not monogamous IRL, it would have been interesting if characters actually falling in love with each other was a rarity and most relationships were a 'friends with benefits' sort of deal. Imagine a tom realising that he only wants to mate with one molly and coming up with all kinds of reasons to explain it, (She's a strong warrior; we'd make strong kits for the clan. I'm almost certain we're not cousins.) before finally accepting the fact that he loves her.
Yeah same I wish shrewpaw stayed alive I think if he did he would be like thrushpelt just kind and caring with squirrelstar and not harming her just wanting to help her no matter what !
Interesting to see couples that canonically broke up ! I definitely couldn't have listed as many off the top of my head. I like the idea of the books showing couples that failed, not necessarily because they were "toxic" but because there's a thousand reasons a relationship might not work out. Maybe they met and fell in love too soon, when they weren't ready for that kind of commitment ? Maybe they fell out of love ? Maybe they had irreconciliable differences in their outlook on life ? I get why there isn't more separations in the books (they already have messy enough bloodlines without involving half-siblings into the mix) but I think that would be interesting to explore. I don't have a favorite ship, I'm aromantic and love isn't my jam, but I guess my favorite divorced warriors would be Daisy&Spiderleg. In his case mating was likely not for the purpose of having kits and being cat-married, but more for fun without intending for there to be consequences. In a fandom that's as obsessed with love, I'll take the scraps of aroallo rep I can get ! Even if it's from a deadbeat dad. Love loses !

I think that brambleclaw and squirrelflight is an interesting couple. it’s realistic because they fight and that’s something people do IRL, although I hope that BOTH of their retirements is not filled with bickering. one of the things that irks me about the warrior’s community is how much squilf is babied with the ‘kit situation.’ how would you feel if the love of your life adopted her sister’s children and then didn’t tell you for years 😭 i would be mad too - it wasn’t ok for brambleclaw to crush on jesse and I think he actually thought about pursuing her. squilf and him really should have had a talk. still, she went behind his back to talk to moonlight in The Sisters situation. correct me if i’m wrong, but didn’t squilf stay in The Sister’s camp voluntarily? if moonsight wasn’t going to evacuate, I don’t think that the Clans would harm children.
To be completely fair to Squirrelflight thanks to Yellowfang lying she was under the impression that she was infertile, and was also told not to tell anyone about the lie. Brambleclaw had every right to be mad but I don’t think Squirrelflight ever found out he was about to kill her dad so I guess they’re about even, lol There are so many other reasons their relationship is messed up, owing mostly to Brambleclaw’s inconsistent writing. My guy went from “Join you? I’d rather die!” to “well maybe training in cat hell isn’t so bad after all” in a depressingly short time.

I honestly find that fact that Warriors of all series portrayed a divorced couple like Nightcloud and Crowfeather so well is an honest to God miracle. Now if only they could have had the guts to do that with BrambleSquirrel… (come on guys, even if people hadn’t already proven the multiple abusive tactics Bramble used against her in the relationship, you know they don’t pair well together in the first place.
