Way more aesthetically looking than most DIY vacuum casters

Fantastic craftsmanship I wish I had your tools and skills, I'm just making my vacuum chamber for casting but I purchased a separate 12L vacuum chamber for degassing..
I actually ordered my 6" steel pipe 3.5" too long on purpose because I'm using 5" X 8" flasks and the extra 3.5" at the bottom is below the pump connection so if I get a blowout the molten metal falls to the bottom and can't get drawn into the vacuum hose!!

What if you have a blow out how do you get the metal out?

Hahaha, I ended up doing mine using the lathe... Mounted a drill bit in the chuck and pushed the chamber against the bit by hand till it was done. Might not be perfectly centre, but it worked. Drill presses be tiny when you add on the size vice you need to hold big stuff!

"Don't judge me." I can commiserate with this every time I do a thing.

Is it a good idea to degass before pouring plaster and then again in the cast in case the cast has bubble traps?

Very good work. I won’t say anything about your hand drilling though. Been there too many times.
It would have been nice if you had given more explanations about the various steps.
What 3D printer do you use? I noticed Formlabs on the screen but wasn’t sure if that was the printing material or printed. Formlabs has some investment casting PLA from what I hear. Expensive equipment though.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Did the plexiglass tube still hold up now?

Yes, I've used it a bunch to degas epoxy and cast things since I've built it, no problem yet.

I had to look up the strength of plexiglass. It may be better than a glass dome. This was something I found while searching:
"Looking at the load-bearing capacity of acrylic, we can state that the weight required to break an acrylic sheet is about 30 times greater than a glass pane of the same thickness. Suppose a pane of glass 1 metre wide and 3 millimetres thick breaks at a weight of 1 kilo, then a three-millimetre thick acrylic sheet will break at a weight of 30 kilos. That is quite a difference. This is also the reason why acrylic is widely used in load-bearing and heavily loaded structures, such as showcases and aquariums."

How much would you charge to make me one. I don’t have all the equipment you have

Could you specify the dimensions of the material? Pipe diameter and thickness, lid thickness. Thanks.

5mm wall thickness pipe, lid and bottom is also 5mm. The Plexiglas is 10mm. Diameter is around 150mm.
