She is downplaying those "doors". I remember when they created Pastry on the show. She called up her Uncle Russell who owned Run Athletics. Asked if she and Vanessa could do a shoe line. The next day they were in NYC designing the shoe.
Does she know that most people people can't call up Adidas, Nike, etc and be in there HQ designing shoes the next day with actual DISTRIBUTION? That was the connect. Plenty people can design shoes but its hard to have that type of immediate path into stores.

Plus, having connects doesn't guarantee success anyway. She worked hard. Just look at her and her brother JoJo; him being rich didn't guarantee success, so its clear talent & hardwork is needed no matter where you start from in life.
It's not what you know it's who you know.
Even I'm not related to anyone famous but in my own life I had the advantage of getting two jobs with good references.
So her & her sister were doing what a lot of people do. It's not common for a newcomer to be successful without someone else's help.

Not saying it's a bad thing but don't minimize that. It's some talented people that work extra hard that will never get those same opportunities.
thats exactly what I was thinking when she said that, those opportunities are close to impossible for "regular" people like me and we have to knock on like 10 different bank doors to have a loan to start a small business.... she's bless!

I hear Rome and Angela, but if they acknowledge the fact that there are people who have it easier and they have to work, I feel like they should also acknowledge the fact that they are blessed to be in a position to work in this light. But that's just my opinion.

+jameste09 I agree. they are working hard by choice. not because they have to. most of us want to be successful so we could have money and live a comfortable life and keep food on the table and a roof over our head. they would never be in danger of being homeless, carless or any kind of lack. so their "hard work" is a little different. it doesn't have the survival pressure driving it. it's just them doing what they love, not to survive. but, that being said, I appreciate that they are down to earth and not super arrogant.

People over play the thought that nepotism plays a part in getting access to things. Angela is right at the most it generally only gets you a sit-down. These companies are mostly run by people who don't look like them(us) and their angle is to make a return on investment not continue someone's family status. They still have to deliver on the goals and objectives. What folks don't understand is that anyone can have an idea even have it sketched but if their business plan, financing plan, etc is not right then it does not matter. Above all else people celebrate the young stars who come up the sleazy way but make dismissive comments about the young stars who are productive. Just confusing to me.
