used this method and quite frankly amazed at how easy it made fitting Tyre ------ last time i had to do this took, the skin off just about every finger and struggled for over an hour to complete task. Using this technique to less than 10 minutes to do both tyres ----what a revelation bloody brilliant. well done keep the ideas coming. big thanks.

Best technique ever. I've replaced tires several times on various saws. Done with ease even in a cool shop, no heat. Just the jig.

Like many woodworking projects, if you take the time to make a jig, it makes the job simple. Using a bit of scrap, I made this jig and then changed 2 tires in a few minutes, never slipped off once. Thank you!

Hi Dave, once again you and I seem to have parallel things in our workshops. We just replaced the tyres on our big bandsaw on our woodwork club machine last Saturday. Yes, we did it in situ and it took three of us working together. The second tyre took about a minute once we got the co- ordination right.
Great work as most of us have to do these things solo.
PS. I Had just given a demo on drawer construction at our woodwork club(same day as above) and next thing I know here you are showing your drawer build for your bench( same week). Another great in depth demo and explanation.

Ingenious. Wish I knew about this BEFORE i did mine. BUT I still have to glue the rubber tire down to the wheel and this looks like a great way to do that. Thank you!

Cheers Dave, That looks easier. I have just done my tires a few months ago. I knew about leaving it in the sun for a while, but I've not seen the dowel trick before.

I've replaced both tyres on my OAV 530 bandsaw with Urethane ones (not grey or white, but yellow). I've read in several places that they outlast rubber tyres and don't need any glue to hold them in place, but I'm not convinced they are as good as has been suggested. The first time I replaced a tyre was about 5 years ago, when one of the original yellow urethane tyres suddenly broke into several pieces. I had previously wiped both tyres down with a cloth soaked in mineral turpentine to remove some gunge, and I suspect this may have weakened the tyre which caused it to fail months later. However, both top and bottom urethane tyres have recently snapped about 6 months apart, and they have been kept clean and don't have a lot of use. I did heat them in almost boiling water before I plut them on, but I doubt this was the cause of the failures. I'm now going to replace the lower tyre with a rubber one, which is just over half the cost of a urethane one, and after seeing your video I won't be glueing it on.

Just today I replaced 1 of my 2 tires on my Grizzly 17" bandsaw. I saw a very similar video from the supplier of my tires and used this method. It was a bit of a challenge, but I'm certain it was easier than the 2 screwdriver method. I shall replace the 2nd tire in the next day or two. For the moment my saw is "out of service".

Hi dave, my bandsaw is 97 years old. the wheels are 36" diameter and about 2 1/2" wide. maybe 150 kg each.
the tyres are rubber of course, and are in need of replacement because of mlnor blade runout.

Nice tip Dave. Are those rubber or urethane tires you put on? I have heard that you need to use an adhesive with rubber tires but not for urethane. I believe your tire mounting jig would work for applying adhesive to rubber tires too. I'm getting ready to replace the tires on my saw, after 8+ years I think they are due.

My pulley on my blade wheel (not the motor pulley) works itself loose and comes off. I have re-positioned it and tightened the set screw several times, but in a few minutes of using it, it works loose again. Someone suggested I coat the set screw and keyway with JB Weld. What would you do about this problem? Thank you.
Have you asked the manufacturer about this being a warantee issue?
No I have not since the saw is over 30 years old. I have only been having this problem in the last year. @@DavidStanton
Dave, how do you know when to change the tires?
Hi Virginia Mark! You need to inspect the tyre for chunks missing or for that matter, if the tyre itself is missing!
When they start jumping off the wheel.
My bandsaw tyres have perished and cracked. They appear to be a rubber based material. Have you experience of urethane alternatives which some suppliers are offering?
Interesting point Peter Bourne. I haven't noticed any difference.
I have a Laguna 14/12 bandsaw. Does this video mean I always have to take the wheels off the bandsaw to change tyres?
Hi Joe Slaven. Only if you want to do it the easy way but bandsaw tires only get changed every few years when torn or they snap..
@@DavidStanton thanks David. The tyre on my lower wheel snapped, so I am replacing both tyres. I have one of the first 14/12s in Oz, and these are the original tyres. Just a bit worried the top wheel , being a press fit, might require a puller.
@@DavidStanton David, Laguna told me to boil the tyres for 5 minutes , but I will be using the very hot water tap, and NOT to stretch it, as the eurethane will not rebound to its original shape like rubber tyres. I thought you would like to know
