This whole trilogy is only about 50% true but the movies are so romantic, beautifully made and Romy Schneider was so incredible I don't care. I love them
Also a fan; I own the trilogy.
@@HotVoodooWitchme too :)
This is one of my favorite films, but it is so much better in the original German.
@@katiekluesner1686 the trilogy has a choice of subtitles or dubbing. I don't like dubbed films but that's just me.
En español gracias. Saludos.
Wrong, she didn't steal the fiancé, HE fell in love with her. She was fifteen when she met him,she was reluctant to be engaged to him.
Helen was lucky not to have married him. She married happily.😊
It's Not Love, it's Faded love
Phedopile?
B@@user-hd4xb7bh8d
@@user-hd4xb7bh8dI don't think so. All this happened in the nineteenth century, the people involved were Emperors, Duchesses, it was common at that time to settle marriages at an early age, life expectancy being shorter than nowadays. A young and healthy wife would mean more children. Anyway in that particular case it was love at first sight. ...he was meant to marry Helen the elder sister. It is said that he loved her to his dying day.
She didn't steal him, he fell for her. That part IS true.
It always takes two to fall in love.
@@dooremieke.janssens1240 only if it's mutual. Does "unrequited love" ring a bell?
Spat out my tea reading the title. "Steal" is a bit of a reach, no? It was an arranged marriage between cousins and Sissi absolutely did not want to marry him and he coerced her into it (both in the film version and in real history). She was only 15 and did not want that guy, so there was no "stealing" involved lmao
"stole her sister's man". Tell me you don't know the story without telling me you don't know the story.
god right? intentionally inflammatory title. but glad to see the dub !
So weird to hear this in English. I always saw it in German.
😍 me too.
Their english is impeccable. 😉
.
The original, German version is much better.
I was about to comment the same thing, this is so weird haha
Helene had a happy marriage while Sisi didn’t.
The reason why Elisabeth didn't have a typical happy marriage was herself, though, not Franz. The couple actually got along very well and Franz loved Elisabeth deeply and allowed her to fo everything she wanted. Elisabeth, however, valued other things far more than her relationship with her husband, even though she did have affection for him.
She preferred to be away from court most of the time, leaving her husband lonely at court and she actually arranged relationships with another woman, the actress Katharina Schratt, for him, so that he wouldn't feel so lonely when she was away. She could've had a very happy marriage, had she wanted to. Her sister Helene, having a completely different character, would've probably had a happy marriage even if she had married the Emperor.
@@shimanopetermann9068 Could also have to do with the fact that she was only 15 when she was more or less bullied by everyone into marrying her cousin. Elisabeth was still more or less a child, thrust into this marriage with a man seven years her elder and he was much more into her than she was. It just goes to show that arranged marriage with teenagers do not make for lasting love. Franz wanted her for her looks, but he would have done better marrying Helene, who was clearly willing and closer to his age. Elisabeth was a victim of what comes close to child-marriage and her life long mental issues attest to that.
@@hellund2874 While much of that is true and one can not overstate the effect of a child marriage on her mental health, I would still say that's not the complete reason. We have to take into account her general personality, not all of which was shaped by her experiences. Excentrism and melancholy, for example, were pretty prevalent and possibly hereditary traits in the Wittelsbach family. Sisi was in this regard, and also in her "I-do-what-I-want-no-matter-the-expectations-or-consequences" kinda attitute very similar to her first cousin, King Louis II. of Bavaria aka the "Märchenkönig" (Fairy tale King), and also to her father Duke Maximilian in Bavaria. From her father, she also got her liking for a lavish and luxurious lifestyle and her disklike of court etiquette and responsibilities (Yeah, she really got her cake and ate it). The latter was, btw. the main reason why she didn't have much of a marriage with Franz Joseph. She disliked courtlife and her imperial role with all of the responsibilities and therefore travelled a lot to get away and pursue her excentric and quite expensive lifestyle. About her future husband, she is supposed to have said about the prospect of marrying him, "I do like the Emperor very much... if only he wasn't an emperor."
@@shimanopetermann9068 I think the main problem was her aunt/MIL. Had she not been so overbearing, Sissi and Franz might've had a chance at happiness.
@@shimanopetermann9068Franz didn't at all protect her from his mother, but let Sophia mistreat her. Hence she preferred to be somewhere else, and also fell ill, only recovering at a distance. The way she was robbed of her children was horrid.
I'm not surprised she had those mental health issues, nor that her children were crushed in that marriage.
OMG.... I didn't know that there is a dubbed version. I know this film in original German . As someone from Bavaria we love sissi. It's part of history. It's funny to watch in English.
Me too, really weird
I watched it in French when I was growing up.
Where can I I find this English version
Those of us with taste prefer to watch it with English subtitles. 😁
It's so funny, like a comedy because we know how they actually sound and it's nothing like this😅
Sisi did not steal the Prince..she met him quite unaware of his status way ahead of the plans of his mother and fell in love with him then. The Prince wanted a true love but did not realize his secrecy would be painful for sisi and her family.
Except for he wasn't a Prince 😂
@@brontiq don't be so brutish, . When you refer to someone as a Prince,.. you could mean he is a Royal, OR,.. the main romantic focus..or that he is the special character of interest, OR that he,s a wonderful person... Just like saying "he's a doll".. doesn't mean he's an actual plastic figurine
She was his first cousin. I think she was aware of his status😂
@@zen280 I am from a huge family line and don't know all of my cousins,.. not even all my 1st cousins
I saw in other series Sisi that Sisi's father refused and even was mad when Franz Joseph came to him for marriage proposal for Sisi. Because she was a free spirit and happy and to be married so young and became queen will limit her obeying rules and not having her freedom she will suffer.
Sisi did not steal her sister's intended. They met by chance and he fell in love with her before ball. When he chose Sisi it was a surprise for all.
I request you to upload the full movie as I love to watch all the OLD GOLDEN ERA CINEMAS OF THE WORLD.

Since the first time I saw this movie about 60 yrs ago I remembered that blue dress as the most beautiful thing I ever saw. It’s exactly how I remember it. Thank you for bringing back that memory.
The movie Sissi was filmed in Schonbrunn palace in Austria.Amazing place and gardens.
It's so like Soviet films for fairy tails, so beautiful 💞

In the original version the archduchess suggests that the princess should learn Hungarian, Czech (Bohemian) and Croatian (Ungarisch, Böhmisch and Croatisch) the languages spoken in the Habsburg Empire and not Russian and Romanian as it can be heard in the English version. The English version is extremely poor in all possible aspects. What could be the reason for falsifying the original German version?
Great catch. And totally agree
As go match with the lip movements, sometimes adjustments are necessary!
@@Mandara1847 Yes, but adjustments should never mean that the original meaning is lost and false content is involved.
@@dr.huszarnedr.fabiankovits9324 The meaning is absolutely NOT lost by changing some language items.
The point is, she tells Sissy that she is uneducated and not suitable to be an Austrian Empress due to her lack of language knowledge.
Most english-speaking people do not grasp the point of why she is saying that -because they have no idea, that old „Austria“ contained many countries with almost as many languages!
@@Mandara1847 If the archduchess suggests in the English version that Elisabeth should learn Russian and Romanian, the original meaning is lost, indeed. Elizabeth was the beloved Queen of Hungarians and did not have anything to do with Romanian and Russian languages. At the end of the second Sissi film Elizabeth is crowned a Hungarian Queen consort, while her special relationship with some Hungarian personalities is also featured. I do not think it is a good strategy to falsify or neglect something just because the possible audience is not supposed to know or be aware of something.
Such a wrong interpretation… he fall in love with her and said to his mother he only marrys sissi or he don’t marry …
I heard it in french for many years ;-)

It sounds so odd in English

Why did they dub it in english.? It takes away most of the charm of the original.
Well it helps non-German speakers tremendously understanding, what is actually going on… Don‘t you think?
Her sister steals her man in front of everyone.... Mmmm nope if he is so easily strays he was never hers to begin with
He didn't "stray" from Helene to Sissi. Their respective mothers hatched up a plan to marry Helene, the older sister, to Franz Josef but before they were officially engaged, Franz Josef met Sissi, fell in love with her, and decided he preferred her. I do not know what is the basis on which some people are claiming he forced her to marry him or that she did not love him in return. In any case, royals in the 19th century did not usually marry for love. I know of only one other such case, and there too, the young couple were cousins - Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg.
He was never HER man, to begin with... She was made to believe he was due to her which is a silly thing to think . People are free to love and marry whoever their wish.
If he had married her to fulfill other people's expectations and had ended up cheating on her with her sister it would have been a 1000 times worse.
It takes courage to be honest and to say the truth , most people find it easier to lie and act cowardly.
In real life it would've been so much better if he didn't marry Sissi. Sissi later blamed him for stealing and ruining her life and childhood (although she didn't hate him and remained friends (when they were older)). He was very selfish for marry her against her will. Her sister, however, was brought up to become the empress, and had therefore a very strict childhood. Her life as the empress would've been so much better than Sissi's, 'her' mother law would have loved her and wouldn't have abused her (like she did with Sissi). Sissi was too much a free spirit to become an empress.
@@madeline4626 Whether Sissi was fit or unfit to be an empress is up to debate.
The fact of the matter is if Franz had married Helen while still having a secret inclination for her younger sister Sissi, it would have been a very unhappy marriage and ultimately it would have led to potential disastrous consequences like infidelity with his sister-in-law...
@@sarrabelaskri4460 Sissi was not that much in love with Franz, so she would never agreed with an affair. And she loved her sister very much. Franz had MANY mistresses and even slept with her best friend. Although he did love her, he didn't protected Sissi from his mother. And always took his mother's side who made her life miserable. Their marriage was very unhappy and was nothing like the all the adaptations. (and, btw, I never said Sissi was unfit to be an empress if the situation was different)
@@madeline4626 Franz and Sissi 's love story was excessively romanticised, i agree with you on that. As to her relationship with her mother in law, i think, you should look at it from a different perspective. Franz's mother was keenly aware of the importance of the etiquette. Being empress of Austria is a status that comes along with many privileges but also responsabilities. Sissi was just too young ( she was only 16 when she married Franz) to comprehend all of that and probably too much of a free spirit as well. She hated the etiquette and wasn't interested in performing the social duties that came with her position. Frankly, i think Franz was very patient with her, he gave her a lot of freedom and let her travel a great deal which was not that common at the time. Besides, one could hardly blame Franz for having affairs considering the fact his wife was frequently absent. Sissi knew all about it and i've read at some point that she even encouraged her husband having an affair with a famous stage actress (Schratt) out of guilt for her long and frequent leaves. They were an unusual couple but i think they respected and genuinely cared about each other.
@@sarrabelaskri4460 I totally agree (like I also mentioned in my others comments) that she was way too young and a free spirit, but that they respected and genuinely cared about each other. But don't you see then that he should've never married her at that age (a minor) and against her will? Because your last comment contradicts your other comments. Also, Franz's mother took her children and when her daughter died she cruelty blamed Sisi. That has noting to do with etiquettes, right? And I read so many other examples where she treated her very cruelly. It was one of the reasons Sisi traveled so much. Franz knew how Sisi was before her married her, so he should've never tried to change her, he held all the power. And I don't mean by any means that Sisi didn't make mistakes, she had faults of her own but she deserved a happier marriage.
the scene when the costume department took "unskilled pathetic" to a whole new level 🤣 when they crowned the 1950s-bullet-boob-nylon-rhinestone-gownies with a "ONE WAY" rhinestone arrow in her hair 🤣🤣🤣🤣 how symbolical but nothing from the real 1850s looked anything like this

Okay, I don’t mean to be picky. But while I watch this why does it look like when the actors speak they don’t match? Their lip movements are off if you watch a few of them from the side of their faces. Like they are late in ending their sentence yet their mouths are closed. Again please don’t think I am speaking ill about this movie. Just it bothers me when someone speaks yet it doesn’t match their mouths moving. As if how singer lip sync but they are off. It’s like that.
