I love my Defender 110, and it’s the older TD5 version. I sold my BMW as it never came out of the garage....l preferred driving the 110. The Land Rover has so much character, and you really need to DRIVE it, you can’t just sit there and steer. Had it five years, done 50,000 miles in it (was already nine years old when l got it) And it’s worth more than l paid.
You just don't get Defenders do you. Your wrapped up with the ideology that you need air conditioning, That no one would want to hear the engine. I have a mercedes clk and a Landrover 90. I get no fun in the Merc hate the damn thing .Zero character. The Landrover is a family member it makes all sorts of noises I love every mile in it . It has all it needs. I don,t even need a radio I love the beat of its heart more . You are a typical modern driver looking for silence a 100 gadgets you don't need. Had mine 17 years and worth still what I paid for it runs on very little cost. I fix everything myself. It has never let me down.. It is classless and unpretentious. I could be a pauper or a Lord no one can judge me no one can catch me in the mud , snow ,flood , or towing capacity. Phil

I think the last of the Discovery 2 td5 is the one to have. Almost all the off road ability of the defender but with comfort, space and more refinement. Still painfully slow but very tuneable. Mine has 158k on it and still sweet as a nut. I have a new 530d too but the Landy feels part of the family. I think it's great, but I honestly don't know why🤔

This model had to be upgraded step by step in time, and its sale would have grown in the same way, progressively. It should not have removed this model, the model that inspired the G-class and everything on the off-road market.
Only the British would worry about the quality of the roof carpeting on an OFF ROAD VEHICLE. I’d much rather buy a surplus military one and give it to any California tuner for heavy diffs, suspension and an LS V8. For a much smaller price.
Instead of trying to make it into a track car, why not give it the soft long travel coil suspension from a Range Rover classic for a smooth ride, a Chevy v8 LS swap and an automatic gearbox. Swap the seats out for modern Range Rover units. Much better!
Too labour intensive to make, and couldn't get it through emissions red tape. Plus no airbags. They kept it going a few years by re-classifying it as a commercial vehicle but that ended with Euro 6.

They can put Range Rover's supercharged engine in it and it would fly like an arrow, even though it is not an aerodynamic truck.
Yeah, but the luxury of a Land Rover comes from its utilitarian purpose built ascetic. If you want leather and shiny plastic, you would be better off with a Cadillac Escalade.
If you want a brand modded Defender, Twisted Land rovers are much better. But tbh, my perfect Defender wouldn't be luxurious or fast, it would be a work horse with a snorkel and winches, front and back.

So one very unhappy ex Land Rover 110 xs pickup owner. I bought a 2015 defender 110 owned it 3 years and sold it for more than I bought it. No real issues in that time but and I do mean but, it’s a pig of a thing on road

Buy a defender for serious no compromises off road driving all analogue, or for luxury off roading buy a range rover, this is just a halfway house that doesn't do both that brilliantly

“Other luxury cars couldn’t do” if my xc90 couldn’t do that I would poke my eye balls out with a compass, oh wait my Volvo can do that whilst being very smooth, in fact irons out livestock grates. Silent, 42dB whilst at 4000rpm or higher you get a rumble of the v8, still whilst doing 0-62 in 4.5 seconds with 5 heated vented massaging seats, and 18 dynaudio speakers. Also I can’t think of a luxury car that couldn’t cross 12cm(deep) of water with a grippy rock floor, to be honest my wife’s phaeton could do that with a twin turbo diesel v10 (5.0)
