"Who is this for," you say?
Let me tell you a little story. I live very close to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. While I was in Bethlehem one day I ran into a fellow who told me of a car load of people from Alabama who stopped to ask to directions to the place where Jesus was born.
"Did you set them straight?" I asked.
"Hell no! I gave them directions. Anybody that stupid deserves to go on a wild goose chase."
That's who the board is for.

I got into it BIG time with a fundy about this. Hilarious. I was highly offended that he considered the ouiji board contrary to God's communication standards, whereas a burning bush was "appropriate to the times" in which God spoke to Moses.
And I'm like, my dude, how the hell is a cheeky plastic mass produced product on Amazon NOT appropriate to these modern times??

Back when I lived with my super messy hyper religious family of origin, i would have loved this. Not because I was a believer, but because I'd love to see how my mom, who was terrified of all things she believed were associated with the occult, would have to do mental backflips to praise me for enjoying something religious. 😅

I hope you repent. Jesus has rules becasue he loves us. You turned away becasue you don’t want to obey God, not becasue of Christian bigotry. You’re blaming others for your own rebellion. I’ve done that too. I struggle with same sex attraction, and I have to pray against it. It’s purely demonic, and there’s nothing good or holy about homosexuality. I have heard so many hell testimonies of homosexuals warning people to not go there. Please turn back to God, you’ll regret not doing it, and I promise you’ll think about this one day if you don’t. Jesus is real.

The feedback is at least interesting. I was raised baptist and converted to Catholicism in college before winding up in the agnosti-pagan-esque camp...anywhoo!, I can completely understand how someone could be offended by this, but it really seems like it was MEANT to give to that coworker that smiles at your misfortune while offering to 'pray for you.' 🤭🙄
The negative reviews are likely from the same people who have seen me wear my BEETLEJUICE themed planchet as a big chunky necklace and told me I was the devil... Like, Ma'am, if I had the christian devil's guile, I would not be shopping at TJMaxx and the thrift store...😅

I don't identify as a Christian because while I believe in God and Jesus, I don't accept what the church has become, and I accept all human faiths as having some truth to them. (and I've spent decades studying world religions) so that's where I'm coming from here. I think that things like this are mocking a very specific type of Christian, not the entire faith and that's why it doesn't offend me. I wrote a piece about why it is that some folks who dabble in the occult get trouble; it's not because there are actual supernatural forces ready to pounce on wavering Christians, it's because these kinds of things can only tap into their subconscious and create mental and emotional instability based upon the motive behind the dabbling. Similar to how back in the 60s there was a correlation between adolescent smoking and teen pregnancy, but cigarettes are definitely not an aphrodisiac. The causal portion was the teenaged rebelliousness and seeking of trouble being engaged in specifically to piss off authority figures and act out. In a spiritual setting a similar kind of recklessness and ignorance of consequences combined with the real power of the human unconscious (the reason why placebos have affects) and you get a potent way for people to break their own minds.

I love what you wrote, KetsuekiRose! I'm hoping that you are a teacher, because we sure do need minds like yours teaching our next generation.
There are still some Christian churches today who accept and love all people regardless of race or sexual orientation. Although I'm no longer a believer in what I was taught at the Southern Baptist Church (it never really "took" with me, to be honest) I have found a church I like a lot. I listen to their sermons online. The pastor is a former stand-up comic who was a member of Second City Chicago back in the early 70s. She hung out with the Belushi brothers and other SNL alumni. She applies humor to her sermons. The congregation is multi-ethnic, and many members are LGBTQIA. I'm a couple of those letters, but choose to keep it to myself. I'm never telling my family other than my son. This pastor is one of only two people I've told, and she was wonderful to talk to, and her words helped me to never feel ashamed again for who I am.
I could see her having one of these boards just for fun, because they are so ridiculous! She enjoys fun things. One sermon she delivered while wearing a preying (praying) mantis costume that had to be 7 feet tall including antenna.
This is a United Methodist Church. The UMC had a big split a few years back, because some wanted to cling to their hatred of LGBTQIA, and others wanted to follow the love, hope, and charity that Jesus taught. Her church chose Love.

SO GLAD to see your comment pointing out exactly how these things work. But I will note there are times when such devices might be helpful. This wouldn't be the case if we were better at paying attention to, and understanding, our instincts. As we generally don't, a board can literally spell things out for us.
I just think there are very few who understand the vastness of the subconscious and that there truly are dangerous things there.

But yeah, as an ex-Christian "spiritual-but-not-religious" type who's now mostly looking in from the outside, it seems like Christian products have moved beyond satire. Superstition is just regressive silliness. Religions are largely just expressions of cultural superiority and used to extract wealth and control by the clergy from the congregation preying on humans inability to grasp death and historically to motivate the poor to work their lives away in poverty to make the wealthy have more and more comfortable lives with some silly false promise that once you've worked your life away like a good little slave and only them do you get rewarded. Meanwhile the preacher is enjoying the fruits of your labor and your children's innocence.

These reviews are funny, thank you for sharing. The board seems to be a snarky reaction to Satanic Panic era stuff, when ouija and D&D and anything of that nature was condemned. This safe-to-use product makes it all A-OK! 😊👻🔮 I'm also reminded of the popularity of American Spiritualism, in the time after the First World War and the 1918 pando, when so many were lost. People still always have a desire to connect with someone beyond the veil. And so of course there developed a market to provide that service, that experience. This board seems akin to that, if it is meant to be earnest rather than snarky. Who knows. There are many different types of beliefs out there, some syncretic, embracing multiple traditions

I'm a former fundamentalist who no longer sees any evidence of the supernatural so this would be a funny gift for the many others I know who share my experience. I wouldn't give it to my friends who have a faith, that would be insulting. I wouldn't give it to a young child, they'll get enough exposure to religion from friends and family. I think mockery of mythology is fair game, especially when they're mocking two faiths at the same time.

I never liked to talk about my faith even when I was actively going to church. There was such a strong "everyone HAS to know what you believe" narrative in my church that I was never really comfortable with in the first place which I actually think was an instigator in my loss of trust in the church itself. It's not something I'm willing to discuss even now because people have opinions on the church in question that I do not care about at all and because my faith in my god is still intact.
That being said, I do have to nominate this for my "can't tell if serious" award. If it is, I have several problems. If it's a joke, I have several more problems. Namely, I actually can suffer from hallucinations and/or delusional thinking if I don't take medication, and not the kind that causes happy fun times. It is more offensive to me as a person with mental illness than it is to me on a religious level when people call religion and religious things delusional or make jokes along those lines. My suffering is not something to take and bend to your own purposes, especially not to belittle others' beliefs.
Religions all have their problems, and people with mental illness and even those without can take it way too far, but do not, I repeat, DO NOT equate religion and mental illness. I had a hard enough time with the culture of "well, sinful behavior etc. equals suffering". I don't need or want to hear the inverse. My mental illness was the product of tragedy, not of following a certain faith or lack thereof. My former church has its problems, and I know exactly what those problems are, but my state of being isn't its fault.

I’m a Christian. I don’t go to a church I just believe in Jesus for my salvation, read the Bible and pray to him. That being said, you def don’t go searching for him via an Ouija board. You might find a “Jesus” but it ain’t gonna be the one you want. I used a real Ouija board when I was 16 with my best friend. We were dumb and didn’t know any better. I had a literal out of body experience. Say what you will, but I know what happened to me and I would NEVER touch any Ouija board, tarot cards, crystals, new Age spiritual stuff again. That was and is still the scariest thing to happen to me. I do not recommend going down that rabbit hole 😰 finished the video and adding some of those comments were funny tho and I’m with you, wouldn’t have it in my home.

*This is no joke. I used to play with them and did it for years. Needless to say I have a huge amount of experience and there's a reason I don't use them anymore. These are very real and there is no guarantee that you are talking to the people/spirit you want to talk to. Maybe you start out with a spirit that seems kind and good (and maybe it actually is) but there's no way to know for sure) but it doesn't take much for whatever it is you're talking to to be pushed out if the way by something stronger and darker. Not to mention they are full of lies. To those thinking of trying it, is it worth your life, spirit or sanity...*

It is pure mockery, I agree. I do believe God has to have a good sense of humor, but not for something like this, but he did create the people who make crazy clothes, at even crazier prices, so we could laugh at them. We are made in Gods image, but those clothes are not…I am talking about Baal-enciaga, here, as well as the other high fashion designers, that you bring to us, every day. Welcome to 2024, welcome to amateur hour. 🤷‍♀️

  • @nuthinmuffins5073

I can see how this could be offensive, especially because of the major fuss that’s been made throughout history over the issue of how people can and should communicate with God and Jesus. Religions are prone to making a big deal over what outsiders might consider trivial details within broader issues, so I’m sure there’s a lot of things about this that could be considered offensive for reasons that wouldn’t occur to me. I define myself as spiritually eclectic, and that includes both aspects of Christianity (mainly Jesus and angels stuff, but explaining it would be a long involved thing because it’s very much my own personal take on things as the result of some strange spiritual experiences) and witchcraft, and Buddhism, but also not limited to those elements. I respect the beliefs and practices of others, as long as they’re not harming anyone (so excluding cults, like Scientology), and I expect to be treated in kind. I believe in following the Golden Rule. I also don’t push my beliefs onto others and I appreciate when others refrain from proselytizing. I do believe in spirits, or rather, I know they exist, because I’ve had direct contact with them on more occasions than I can count, and many of those experiences were intensely vivid and couldn’t even be close to debunked. Before those experiences, I didn’t believe in spirits. I still maintain skepticism, because it’s healthy, and not everything that seems to be paranormal is paranormal. I went from agnostic, or even atheist, to agnostic but more open-minded, to having some certain beliefs but keeping hold of some agnosticism. More than anything, I think it’s arrogant for humans to assume they know everything about anything, especially the greatest philosophical mysteries. If we’re not open to being wrong, we shut ourselves off to the truth, and deny a key aspect of the scientific method. So, I’m saying all this because I have used Ouja boards. I actually have one, although it’s made by a different company than the standard and it looks a bit different. I rarely use it, but when I do, it’s for a specific purpose because I do have some mediumship and psychic abilities. I’m always very careful about how I use it. Just like any tool, there’s right and wrong ways to use it. These reviews are funny, but the reality is that this board also should not be used without caution. As cliche as it is, it’s possible to accidentally allow malicious entities into your space whenever using this kind of device. I think it’s less likely to happen if your intention is to contact Jesus or angels, especially if you begin by doing something like saying a prayer, but one should always use caution anyway. But I tend to agree that this type of thing isn’t necessary at all, and prayer itself is sufficient. Lighting a candle, using a rosary, meditating in a garden, chapel, or other place of serenity, should be enough if you need some extra help focusing your mind on speaking with the divine. The methods used by devotees throughout thousands of years, need no improvement. So my only problem with this product, is that it could be somebody trying to profit off of the faith and gullibility of others. I doubt there are many people who would actually buy it, however.

I am genuinely frightened by the number of people that sincerely think that the toy is anything other than cheap cardboard, plastic and stickers. Some sincerely believe that the toy can influence the world in some way. In this the age of Feynman, Hawking, Penrose, Einstein and Sagan people can still imagine evil spirits are real in spite of all the literal libraries of data that clearly show such a thing is not possible. Fear is a hell of a drug.

The idea of promoting "faith" has always been about taking advantage of people. I don't think gullibility plays into it because it's been passed down, mostly, through parent/child relationships for millenia. Thanks to products like this, more and more people are learning how ridiculous religion and "spirituality" are for understanding reality. Unfortunately, people who are able to believe in one thing without sufficient evidence, they will believe others.

I mean my bible study guys were Dr. Chuck Missler and Dr. Michael Heiser. Academics and scholars. They always told jokes relating to biblical stuff.
