I just picked this up since I’m just getting into reenacting, and honestly I have high hopes for it. The shell shape and color mimics an original really really well, and that’s a long time helmet collector’s opinion.
The m38 fallschirmjager helmet is very nice and everything looks correct but the edge before the dip in the front needs to be rounded alittle bit because it’s a sharp edge.
Thanks man! Honestly hope to get out more reviews soon! It seems like a lot of companies have really stepped up their quality game.... except for maybe International Military Antiques lmfao
If you want to age the liner used avocado oil, not WD40 or gun oil, avocado oil does just as good and doesn't have that strong chemical smell. If you ever want to repaint the helmet, get some aluminum oxide and sprinkle it over the helmet while the paint is still wet. After it's dried for about an hour, give it a 2nd coat of pain. That will give it a rougher texture and the aluminum oxide reduces light reflection, that's why the Germans used it starting in 1940.
Sadly no its not that good of an idea. I actually really liked the idea of doing this at first, I grabbed the can of avocado oil and immediately sprayed the liner down and you were right… no smell!… but oh my god that’s where the problems started… you can only age it by putting the oil on the underside of the skin of the liner and the oil stays for months (it’s been 2 months now and oil is still leaking out of the liner rivet holes). On top of that it made the liner look cheap (it was cheap anyways). Honestly though, I regret putting the oil on and maybe I should have just kept it yellow…. I’d suggest just replacing the liner string and then actually naturally aging the liner.
@@TRD_ww2 I didn't even realize that avocado oil came in a spray can, sorry about that. I just put maybe half an ounce of oil in my hand and rubbed it into the liner, and it worked just fine, no leakage and no odor.
Want to see it on your head !! you look so german ! perfect for reenacment : young and blond, like it was 80's years ago ! Angrift Kamarade, Viele Danke, Gruss..und Gott mit uns : )
It's the wrong kind of steel, stick a magnet to it and see... It will stick right to it, real hard, a real M42 it won't stick well, because they were Manganese Silicon steel, not ordinance steel like every REPRO on the market. ALSO, that helmet shell will NOT take a size 66/58 or 66/59 reproduction German M31 helmet liner and the liner that comes with it, it's meh at best. The shell is labeled as a size 66 shell and it's NOT, not even close. A shame really, it's close in shape and vent, closer than most is not all on the Market. One day, somewhere, someone will make an actual 100% matching copy to a ET, EF, SE, or NS M42. But you can forget about a Quist 42 repro, Quist only made two short runs of the M42 and ONLY in size 64 shells, then they went right back to making M40 helmets until the end of the War and that's 100% fact, everything I said as a matter of FACT, is 100% FACT..
@@brucecamparmament3728 If they are smart they will.. Maybe not Manganese Silicon steel that has been heated/work hardened correctly... But they will get the shape and sizes right, FINALLY... Availability to the equipment needed to make it happen in places like India and China, that will be when it happens.. Because that's pretty much where EVERY repro is made.. You got some sort of problem, some Beef with my statement..?? Weird... You know since it's the logical evolution of the situation.
@@TRD_ww2 You aren't getting a complete original (non restored) M42 , with a Lot Number in decal range for $600 that is in near mint condition for reenacting, you're a few decades too late for that price chief.
It sucks that these are no longer available at ATF I wanted to pick up a M42 repro from them for a while

Oh goodie! A review. I was thinking of getting one of these to switch out with my original for reenacting.
I’d say do it, unbeatable price for a great looking helm

Damn man I just randomly found your channel that's funny 😂
🤣I’m gonna do a sm wholesale review soon for the p41’s and helmet cover don’t you worry
@@TRD_ww2 ay I can't wait especially since I'm wanting to know how good the helmet cover and p41s are so I can't wait for that!!!
Super cool! Keep making great content! Cheers
Reproduction helmets have definitely come a long way. I remember when repro helmets were considered shit. This ATF one looks really good. Great vid!

what size, would you say, the actual liner is?
I’d say 59 tbh, I fit both 58 and 59 sizes
How does the new German helmet compare to the Stahlhelm?
If you want to put a new quality liner in it then get a size 57 Czech liner and it will fit perfectly.
That sounds like a good idea! Did you do it your helm?

Hi,what kind of leather of this helmet?
Not very sure but I think pig or cow leather
300 bucks for a original I payed 1200 for a original m40 kreigsmarine in Australia very neat helmet tho
I've ordered their M1 helmets but $30 seems high unless that was overnight shipped?😳
Jman
We live in Hawaii🤣 30$ is average 🤣
It's not bad for $90. You can't expect much for that price. Display purposes, education piece, or for reenactments.
