In my experience the P-63 is an anti-American design. I think its more so the fact that we get so used to just having to improvise cause none of our other planes fit the meta that we don't know how to fly a meta plane.
@@ELITE-xn3sh speaking of Ki61, i almost got saved by a ki61 but there was like 3 fighters on my A-20, we both died, and put up a really annoying turn fight
Bro if u have over 23 chromazomes u would know that any good player in the p 63 checks their speed, plus its an insane diver at its tier and u always stay above 3k before combat (unless u just dived and got into a turn fight) so you'll just regain speed faster than a pit bull chasing after a todler
Have a premium P-63A-5 from a Soviet Union tech tree, one of the best deals in War Thunder, ever, at least for me. Good armament, good flight characteristics, you can stand your ground even against BF-109s, Spitfires and Zeroes. And a good SL and RP multiplier on top of that! All this greatness for measely 1,6k of GE. Also, i agree about people missing out on lower br games, mid and early war props are really cool and often have very distinct strong and weak sides, so gameplay with them can be very distinct from one another.
The downside of the Soviet P-63s is that you cannot choose the ammo belt for the 37mm, like you can with the US P-63s. So you have an AP round every other round.
I got a discount card on it, I play mainly tanks so I had a total of 0 planes researched. When the price was only $3 CAD it really was a hard bargain, first premium vehicle and it’s able to back up my 6.3 lineup and also my 3.7 such an awesome plane. Nothing more satisfying than putting 37mm holes in everything
One thing i will say about this plane: While it turns well, don't rely on your turning unless you're fighting something you know you heavily outturn This thing shines at climbing and getting away from stuff Its not easy to fly. If you just point and shoot you will die pretty fast, but when played properly it can truly carry
Exactly, everyone sees an american plane that can turn and starts dying to zeroes, the thing that makes the cobra shine is it can dive from any fight and the only plane that can keep up is the 190, which cant turn worth a shit.
yeah this is so true, when I was at low tiers I had the Russian p39k-1 which is really similar and I was struggling for a very long time until I figured out how to pick my fights and how to come out of them unscathed, and that's when it starts to shine
I got Pokryshkin's P-39N-0 about two years ago. It's relatively similar. It has such a high RP modifier I unlocked some jets with it while just playing for fun. Last year they removed the 37mm Air belts which is a bit of a bummer but it's still extremely powerfull at that BR
I picked it up last year and had the same experience. First aircraft I ever got a free ace crew with. I didn't even realise that was a thing until it happened with Pokryshkin's.
Same feelings about Yak-9T. It has 37mm canon but the impact is the same. You can one-shot-kill pretty much everything. Yes, you can't climb higher than everything but it still have decent capabilities in terms of climbrate and only A6Ms and Spitfires turn better but you are way faster. It is my favourite prop tbh.
I love these when I can get the cannon to work for me. I’ll have games where everything I shoot at just disintegrates, and then other games where it feels like I’m shooting spitballs. But man when it hits there’s nothing quite like it.
Quick note- the nose wasn't designed just for the cannon. It was also supposed to hold a turbocharger similar to the p38 and p47. While most of the world was embracing superchargers, the USAAF was investing heavily in turbos, which paid off very well in the p38 and p47 high alt. The experimental p39s with a turbo flew incredibly high and fast, but turbos were limited and they removed it from the design. Greg's airplanes and automobiles did an awesome video about it
Unironically one of my most played US tech tree vehicles. Extremely different gameplay wise than most other US planes but even with the 37 being hard to adjust to, it's s godtier plane
Another plane that I think isn't talked about that much would be the ITP from the season 2 battle pass back in 2021. It's a similar plane to the P-63 where it has a big cannon in the nose, but the big thing that makes it quite good in my opinion is that it also has 2x 20mm cannons in the nose. The 37mm has both full API-T and full HEI-T belts with a 50/50 mix in between, and you also get the standard 20mm ShVAK belts. The ammo belts, combined with the fact you can bring 2x FAB-100, or 8x RBS-82 means that you can also ground pound quite effectively while still retaining the ability to fight off other players. I consider myself to be "above average" in skill level, but I was repeatedly getting 5-6 kill ARB games with this when it was first added at 3.7. It's now since been moved to 4.0, but I still believe it's quite good despite that. It also pairs perfectly with the lineup of: KV-1E, T-34E (and the t-34e stz), BTR-152A, and the KV-2 (1940) (I wish I had this one, but I instead substitute the normal KV-2 (1939)). I regularly get 10+ kill games with this lineup in GRB, since you're nigh unkillable in the KV-1E, and when you do die you can hop into one of the most effective fighter bombers at that BR. I'd love to see a video on it since it's been mostly forgotten about.
I love the P-39s and P-63s. I wish Gaijin would add the P-63D, it had a proper bubble canopy, the highest hourse power of any P-63 and slightly larger wings. The only reason it didn't enter production was because the P-51 and P-47's were already in production and there was no real need for it.
i love the P-29 and P-63s so much. Like a dogfighter a-10. My great grandfather worked on both of these planes, and they are my favorite american planes in warthunder because of that, and how ridiculous they are.
I always loved this thing, as a Russian player as most of us do I started playing on Soviet tree first, so I got used to huge cannons with limited ammo capacity and when I switched to grinding other trees this plane was obvious choice from an American tree, and I felt at home flying it, I grinded most of planes using it and come to understanding why Soviet pilots lived it so much
I remember when I discovered the P-39. It attracted me with it's unusual engine layout and the large cannon in the nose but when I started playing it I quickly found that it was actually a great aircraft to fly. So I was excited when I saw a similar looking aircraft a little farther up the tree called the P-63. I had a blast spading the P-63 and even researched all P-63's in the American tech tree. To this day I recommend people play both aircraft as they are both sleeper hit's in the tech tree. As for why no one talks about it? For one thing it wasn't very popular with American Pilots irl, only the P-39 was used in fount line service with the US and UK and both hated the plane for it's lack of high alt performance. This meant that pretty much all P-39's and P-63's were sent to the Soviet Union whose pilot's absolutely loved the P-39 but were forbidden from using the P-63 over Europe meaning the P-63 basically saw no combat. Thus leaving the P-39 to continue on as the plane that the allies hated but the Soviets loved while the P-63 basically fell into obscurity.
In 2.3 - 3.3 sim battles the P-39 is a beast and if you know how to use the lift it generates over 250mph you can just about out turn anything at speed. It's insane, the P-63 is everything turned up to 11 💪
That whole side of the american plane tech tree is awesome. Idk why but having massive caliber cannon in the front of the plane is so powerful. The ability to one tap someone in low teir AB or RB air battles is amazing
The P-39s/63s were not and are not talked about much because they were just not what the Americans wanted out of a fighter. They performed best at low altitude instead of high altitude and they were maintenance nightmares due to their unusual internals. When the Soviets got their hands on them through lend-lease, they fit right in and were used extensively. The issue of maintenance was completely ignored, instead the Soviets pushed these planes to maximum performance until they broke because they could and did always get new ones. In-game they are an excellent way to teach players how to make the most out of their powerful but limited cannon ammo, a skill that conveniently carries all the way up to the Soviet jets.
Airacobra was bad for USAF, because pilots was trained to shot from long range, so USA give some airacobras to SSSR, where they was very good, because soviet pilots was trained to shot from short distance, so they shot 37mm shel to the enemy airplane, best pilots had more than 50 kills with it (sry about my english)
it was bad for the US because it was a low alt fighter and everyone they were fighting could fly better and higher to boot. Hell wildcats used aircobras as zero bait. the real reason it was so good for the USSR was its ability to devastate bomber formations.
i went into this vidoe thinking it would be alright but i now find myself at the end of the video having enjoyed all of it, well done you seriously deserve more views and subscribers
Also A-10/C-5 has everything that A5 and has 3 bomb (2drops). This and 37mm AP belt - it's just a deadly combination during the tank RB. Also P63 is one of the best all rounders at low attitude (she's fast and quite powerful engine) what makes her even more deadly on tank RBs. It's something different that other US planes but it's nonetheless a hidden and forgotten gem. A-10/C-5 used to be a main pick for SqBs. I have over 2k battles on that thing. In reality it was a good aircraft that just didn’t do the things that the US needed at the time. The US in Europe needed fast high altitude interceptor and escort aircraft. The P47, P51 and somewhat the P38 could do that but the P63/39 cannot. In the Pacific, The Hellcat, Corsair (and P38) were performing exceptionally well against the Japanese in an environment that the P63/39 doesn’t really fit into. But in the Eastern front it performed very well. Since the aircraft performs well at low to mid altitudes, it fit the soviet air fighting style very nicely, since in the eastern front the majority of the fighting took place under 3000 meters. It’s a good plane that just didn’t do what the US wanted, but that does not mean it’s bad at all
One the things that pisses me off the most is trying to grind to get out of low tier props either the enemy rams you or 5 teammates rush to steal your kill from u and ram u
I legit had some of the most fun playing WT with the P63 @ 4.0(the bumblebee camo one). I like the mid engine layout, except instead of a Ferrari, its more of a Porsche Boxster. Not the best, but still good enough at everything to make it a blast to use. Its definitely not a Pontiac Fiero.
The Stalinking is one of my favorites, the cobras in wt are just little candy coated goodness. Fun Factoid...you can't tell in game but I got to walk up to a USAAC P39 and P63 and they are TEENY TINY, of all the planes on display they were the most miniscule, I swear a Kia looks large by comparison.
Absolutely l9ove this plane. And if you think its good in air RB, play ground RB at that tier level and spawn the P-63 in. It is amazing for its maneuverability, structural strength in dives and pullouts, fast plus the armament is great for killing tanks. I've even played that exact plane in a top tier battle and still ended up with 4 kills on jets.
I liked the p-63 so much that I unlocked the stripey yellow one as well and would just bring out all three in arcade mode. I was disappointed there weren't more US planes with giant one shot sniper cannons.
The P-39 and P-63's are, generally, highly underrated. I especially enjoy the French and Soviet lend-lease variants. Can you out climb a Bf-109? No. Can you out turn an A6M5? No. Can you out gun a P-47? No. Can you out roll a Fw-109D? No. Can you out tank an IL-2? No. But it's performance in all those characteristics is such that you don't really care if you're not #1 in any given category since you will inevitably find the enemy's weaknesses in short order. They are such forgiving planes to fly and don't require a PhD in the Dark Arts of Air Realistic to squeeze serious performance out of them. Why they are not talked about or used more is beyond me. Perhaps it's a historical bias thing kind of like the mythos surrounding the Tiger so other options get overlooked?
Most players will grab this thing, fly to the slaughter that happens at the start, struggle to hit anything with the 37mms and get out turned by some japanese fighter. Its just not a noob friendly vehicle
This plane has got to be one of my favourite American aircraft, it climbs better than most American fighters and has a big gun it is also visually pretty beautiful in my opinion though the P-63 A-10 was pretty hard to spade it performed great once I had all the mods
a year later and this thing still slaps, i consider myself an okay player, but in the p-63-a5 i would find myself clutching 1v5's and getting an average of 8 kills over 5 matches, and on a bad game id still get like 4 kills. tldr p-63 slaps
I feel that the p63 is a good learner plane. Decent flight performance to teach the basics but it’s skill ceiling is fairly low. It can turn well but only for a bit as it doesn’t retain much energy. It’s low speed thrust is abysmal meaning stall maneuvers are out of the question. It’s decently fast but it’s acceleration isn’t great along with its climb.
Do you not wep when you fly? This thing out accelerates pretty much every plane it goes up against, out dives everything easily, and turns better than any other american. If i go up in a cobra in air rb or ground rb i expect 3 kills, unless i dont see that many targets. Its a fantastic plane.
@@daslynnter9841 it does have good turnrate and speed but in a dogfight it loses speed fairly quickly and the main reason you can get so many kills is simple, sealclubbing most newer players wont know that taking you vertical will lead you to lose a lot of thrust and meaning even at an energy advantage the p63 can stall before a plane with less energy but better low speed thrust.
if you like a big ol cannon the yak-9 k i think that has a unneedingly big gun that 1-3 shots bombers and consistently rips off the wings of fighters with one shot
The yak 1b is an even better seal clubber Imo. I have the highest kd ratio of any plane in the yak 1 b something like 20 to 1. You can literally win every match you play in with it if you just climb and force your opponents down.
I play 5 air trees and have them at 3.0-1.7. Gaijin recently moved the P-400 to 2.0. It is not necessarily overpowered there, but it is a struggle for my Fury and Gladiator because if it is on the enemy team it will chop your tail off out of no where and if it is on your team it steals your kills.
once you get used to them and handel them carefully the cobra family whoops big butt in simulator mode. You just gotta be carefull of stalling since it's hard to recover because of the mid mounted engine.
I love this plane series so much and it sucks that historically America didn't (that is why the next two have target camo by default) makes me wish the P-59 Airacomet was a tech tree vehicle ;(
Love the P-63...I stumbled across it one day during my grind and it became my goto at that BR... My game nic is the same as it is here, see ya on the battlefield...
I just bought the premium version on the soviet tech tree. Im 28 kills 0 deaths so far hahaha this is the best yoyo boom and zoomer ive played it dives and climbs back up so fast with perfect handling at any speed to me
They have for awhile is the short answer. Just because you may decide to focus a certain area doesnt mean everyone else did :) i talk about various things indeed
I considered making a comparison in the video to an MR2, but I couldn’t figure out a way to make it funny without making some joke bout snap oversteer with funny editing, which I suck at lmao
For me the P-63A-5 is alright but most pilots aren't that good in it. I mainly play the Fw 190 series and i often find this plane to be a free kill since the pilots will either dive out or just do some weird manoeuvre stalling them out. Overall though if the pilot is decent it can be deadly but there are far and few between that i have encountered.

I just found out this too like at the start of summer and i really love this plane now
This is the planes that made me like air rb and the fact that cannon one shot everything is satisfying
That’s how I feel about the Yak-9K fridge launcher
P63 has been my main for a little while; love the 37mm. Extremely satisfying
Always... Well, sometimes fun teaching buddies to play..
The P-400, P-39 and P-63 (don't have one but assume it's the same) are my 3 favourite planes
Also consider gaijin compleately forgot bombers exist.
Absolutely loved playing these. Also the P-39, but this one was way better.
the engine was shifted back not for the sake of the gun but for a planned supercharger that sadly never came to fruition
It did have a supercharger. It was a turbosupercharger that was originally planned.
You can outrun everything at low altitude
@@mustangproluckyh.3686 these people don't understand low speed thrust
With over a 1000 hours in war thunder, the kingcobra has my favorite plane from the beginning
P-63C is more fun to me, i've had the wing blown off multiple times and been able to land a destroyed plane and repair it.
Speaking of seal clubbers, the swedish Tier 2 premium prop is also insane for its BR.
if you like a big ol cannon the yak-9 k i think that has a unneedingly big gun that 1-3 shots bombers and consistently rips off the wings of fighters with one shot
try the j22-b one of the most under rated fighters. AMAZING energy retention and the 13mms have the same damage as the 20-30mms.
i tried the j22-a it feels very nice going fast but as soon as you turn a little bit you loose all your speed and can't regain it in time.
It's like an American yak9t but someone just strapped extra 50 cals to it
Its even more fun when you have the soviet premium version of the plane :)
The yak 1b is an even better seal clubber Imo. I have the highest kd ratio of any plane in the yak 1 b something like 20 to 1. You can literally win every match you play in with it if you just climb and force your opponents down.
Been using it. Its a great plane. Got the USSR version - hooray warbonds - and that thing claps.
mmm i was just saying today that this video is so fucking good
Last left in game I won a 1v5, they were dumb though. They were separated so I could kill one before another would show up
Thank you for reintroducing me to this plane, just clutched a 1v6 in it
4:47 two options: his parents hit him too much or didnt hit him enought when he was young
Basically the American yak-9t, I have mastered the 9k's cannon love one popping planes out the sky. Try the 9k its amazing
I've been playing jets way too long. I'm gonna revisit props again
once you get used to them and handel them carefully the cobra family whoops big butt in simulator mode. You just gotta be carefull of stalling since it's hard to recover because of the mid mounted engine.
Micheal finnaly got the discord server he wanted
I played for the first time in RB this plane yesterday and now I see this video
The P-39 is my favourite prop but I didn't really like the survivability of the P-63 and I never really played realistic when I got it.
I love this plane series so much and it sucks that historically America didn't (that is why the next two have target camo by default) makes me wish the P-59 Airacomet was a tech tree vehicle ;(
as an normal p63 player the A5 is a legit slapper
watching ur video i think the p63 is amazing great video
Love the P-63...I stumbled across it one day during my grind and it became my goto at that BR... My game nic is the same as it is here, see ya on the battlefield...
It is really maneuverable at about 300 mph, maxed out is really nice, but I'd rather have a 20mm instead
Because used to be trash, at higher br, but US mains sucks so much in air rb that went down and was buffed as hell
The first yak1 is super clubby if you want to check it out next
I agree it is a clubby aircraft , but lower on my clubby USSR low tier list. No.1 for me is the LaGG 3
I just bought the premium version on the soviet tech tree. Im 28 kills 0 deaths so far hahaha this is the best yoyo boom and zoomer ive played it dives and climbs back up so fast with perfect handling at any speed to me
I got the premium version of this kingcobra on the USSR tree, it's probably my most used plane 🤣 it's really good, next to P47 premium on USSR tree.
I agree I love this thing
They have for awhile is the short answer. Just because you may decide to focus a certain area doesnt mean everyone else did :) i talk about various things indeed
a 1 kill game for me is not a guarantee. 2 kills is nice. 3 I'm saving a replay and screaming at my wife to come watch it
I prefer the French one, it sits at 4.0 br but it has ~400hp more
i like one low tier plane too, its the i-16 type 27, it has 2 20 mm cannons and 2 mgs at 3.0 BR. And great maneuverability
The P-39N-0 is even more broken
my friend and i been playing less than a month and he goes crazy with this and the p39
Bro I fly this thing 24/7 it’s a beast
The p39n is also very very strong take a look of it please
P-39 betta , thats why
No wonder I like it, thing's a mid engine sports car. It's a Porsche.
I considered making a comparison in the video to an MR2, but I couldn’t figure out a way to make it funny without making some joke bout snap oversteer with funny editing, which I suck at lmao
Wait till this man discover the absolute demons of a plane the p37n0 is(why the hell is it even 2.7)
For me the P-63A-5 is alright but most pilots aren't that good in it. I mainly play the Fw 190 series and i often find this plane to be a free kill since the pilots will either dive out or just do some weird manoeuvre stalling them out. Overall though if the pilot is decent it can be deadly but there are far and few between that i have encountered.
as a 190 main myself, god damn p-63s are scary when they know what they are doing.
p38 better change my mind
I love all air cobras and king cobras I preach they are better then the fighter of that tier
FANALY SOMEONE SED IT low tier is the best not much stress fun no missils mid speed just evrything you need in a game
I got multi top tier nations with tanks and air, and 110% my go too br is 3.0-3.3 with usa.
