Raven was a 2002 TV show on CBBC. The kid's game show has recently resurfaced with people calling it the British Squid Game. I just think it was really wild and probably one of the best shows on CBBC. In this video I take a departure from Drake and Josh and Fred on iCarly to talk about the CBBC show Raven, going over all the highlights and funny moments.

Looking back, Raven was such a good show. The music, suspense to the way Raven spoke. Oh and the way some kids failed challenges was genuinely hilarious.
RIP to the kids who failed on the Way of the Warrior
Raven was in a league of it's own. It had it's own unique identity, a simple, yet calculated life/ring system that felt engaging to see, it had actual in-world behind it that kept you invested, especially when the spin-off seasons started airing. But most importantly it just looked like so much fun. It's the show that kickstarted my love of editing and gameshows, long live Raven, long live James Mackenzie!
Great video! As a fellow Raven fan, it's always nice to see other people remembering Raven fondly! Would be interested in hearing more in depth thoughts about the spinoffs as their formats were quite different with that emphasis on story line. Nice work with the editing at the end too!
This guy actually understands British culture as a UA-camr
So glad I found this, I was watching Defunctland’s Legends of the Hidden Temple video and this show came to mind (since the former ended when I was too young to have watched it). Really cool to see a retrospective like this as it was one of the shows I really missed when my family moved away from the UK, great job on the video!!
I think this showed up in my recs because I watched a CBBC compilation. Of which I knew like 1 or 2 out of like 15. Either I was too old for it, or they never came to Denmark. Raven is one of the ones I'd never heard of until that compilation a week ago. Glad to learn more about it.
I liked Raven! It used to be on everyday when I got home from primary school!
I loved this show growing up and still do. Used to watch it every day after school.
biggest flex is that my best friend was on the reboot
Ooo, the spin-offs
The island, The temple or the Dragons eye
Or is it the 11th series
Raven is the TV show I will never forget! Was always my favourite
It was my second favourite show as a kid behind Doctor Who
The secret temple took place in India as that year 2007 was the celebration of Pakistan gaining its independence i think was the reason and BBC allowed Raven to o a spinoff with that middle easten theme
That series must have blown all of CBBC's budget for the year.
I only remember one thing from The Secret Temple. During the final game, Navar walked in whilst their backs were turned and I ended up yelling at the TV for them to stop the game for the kids safety and my dad just told me “they’re not going to stop the game just because Navar’s there”
I think Raven, and probably moreso Way of the Warrior, might be what got me into obstacle course shows like SASUKE/NInja Warrior so much.
I'd be interested to see you cover Raven's Sci-Fi equivalent, Mission 2110.
Yes, some Raven appreciation. Taught me so much about honesty and integrity.
God, I rememer loving raven, but for sme reason Jungle run was always the show I wanted to go onto.
I did love Raven as a child. Well, the early series. I didn't much like it when they moved to a more exotic area. It was much better with its Celtic fantasy theme.
There were 6 emblems on Raven. Cloud, Moon, Mountain, Sun, Tree & Water. Which emblems would you have and why?
I would often base it on the success of the warriors donning the emblem. If there was an emblem which often saw early elimination I would root for that emblem the most, opposite if the emblem belonging to frequent heat winners. Sun (Red) was my clear favorite, then Moon and Mountain, and the others were whatever. But switch to emblems in Finals, Cloud would be my favorite, followed again by Sun and Moon. For the longest of any emblem, Sun had no male warriors either (Sarla in Season 4 was the first and he was also the first Sun warrior to qualify in his heat, the last emblem to do (there had been 4 Wave, 1 Tree, 2 Mountain, 3 Cloud and 2 Moon previously)), and none of Raven's champions have worn a Sun in their qualifier (though some champions were Sun warriors in their final). I favour the Cloud in the final week since as of Season 10 is was the only emblem not to be worn by a champion in their final.
But I always hoped to see, no matter the season, one warrior of each emblem to qualify for the final. It never happened to my knowledge but some seasons got exceptionally close, Seasons 7 and 9 for example would have seen it happen if the results of one last stand had been different.
I think it was in India for some sort of Indian celebration of how long in they had existed or something, it was a big thing that the whole BBC did.
This was a delightful blast from the past, I haven't thought about Raven in ages. It was such a fun show, I loved all the lore and story put into it and the challenges looked a lot of fun. I always wanted to try the Way of the Warrior, even now I still kind of want to, though I'm sure I'd fail very early haha. Never knew about the reboot, I might check an episode out to see what it ended up like.
This is an awesome video, really glad I came across it and I'll definitely be checking out the rest of your channel. Instant sub from me.
This isn't a CBBC show but did you ever watch Jungle Run? That would be fun to see a video on.
From the quality of the video I thought you’d have like 50k smth subs dude these videos are amazing hilarious and so well made I am so subbing and keep it up!
Now I want a medieval European fantasy version of Legends of the Hidden Temple.
Please cover Trapped next!
The intro music goes hard
Definitely need more of these shows nowadays.
I think raven need a revival but with more plot because there was no plot.
*looks at Series 11/12*
Yeah... About that...
@@Signerdragon123 that more of a reboot and their gender switch raven not please and race switch as well because BBC's is evil.
It's nice to know that it's still people out there with remember raven like I do I love that show when I was a kid
I genuinely feel like Raven is the subliminal reason I love fantasy and medieval themes. Really was a banger of a show.
I love your thoughts on this show. Have you covered the CBBC game show Trapped?
That's a good idea. I'm not planning on covering a CBBC show in the immediate future, but maybe I'll have a look sometime soon!
Omg trapped kinda terrified me as a kid. When I was super naive, I thought the kids would actually be trapped there, until I realised that the kids would still be there the next time if that was the case.
We used to play the games from trapped in the playground! My friend and I would pretend that we were both the saboteur and take out in turns to do the voice for the lady with the purple lipstick 😂
I loved it so much
I really love its spinoffs!
Hard core intro ❤❤❤❤
Yeahhhhhhh Raven baby ❤❤❤
I've met James Mackenzie himself
Twice
i loved Raven
It was this and 50/50
Swear there was a sequel to this show, where all the contestants were in like.. an egyptian/moroccan type place??? and they were organised into teams, as opposed to working individually??
Surprised you forgot to mention that it got a revival in 2017, With Aisha Toussaint takinbg over as Raven. With the story being that she was a former warrior who won the trials. Though the original Raven still appears. There's also a gaelic language version of the revival series called Fitheach.
My friend was not only on Raven she Series 6
How much of the fanbase nostalgia comes from people who thought Raven was hot but only realised later that they thought so...
On the topic of weird cbbc stuff anyone else remember when Blue Peter did those serialised storyline things with puzzles to solve? The alien one traumatised me as a kid!
OK but what about jungle run? And isn't the guy from that now a famous sports presenter (much like Jake Humphries!).
Also, Raven is now the dad in a cbeebies TV show called Molly and Mack.
Loved this show when i was a kid and still do now. It was the one show i think everyone would have loved to have gone on. For me i always thought this was the more serious version of jungle run that actuly has a bit of story and lore behind it. I never really liked the 3 spin off shows though cus it was a team based thing where they made the same 3 teams do the same games over and over till the final week when they finally did something different. And it was worse than how the main show repeated alot of games cus at least with that u had a week before the repeat and it would be with a different group of people in say the secret temple literally the next episode u could see team b doing the same game team a did yesterday. It just got a bit repetitive to me
Man, Raven used to be the show when I was growing up! I remember the Indian spinoff as well, if I'm not mistaken it had a storyline which was awesome at the time, don't know if it has aged well in a modern context
Cover jungle run itv
Hi there just join am from the UK
