Key message: art is art. No matter the tool. Great video 👍🏻
Exactly!
I love your "art is art mindset". You're my favorite instant photography UA-camr for that and all the helpful content you've put out. Thank you!!
Thank you! I’m glad you have been finding the videos helpful!
This video NEEDED to be made . This needed to be said ! Well done man. Art is art
Thank you!! And yes it is
Photographers hate change unless it’s change that influences their specific needs. I can understand how this isn’t instant photography, but the benefits of this machine opens up some creative paths.
exactly!!!
This is what commitment looks like
I only dabble in instant mostly from nostalgia. The family camera growing up was a onestep 600. But the overall message here resonates so well. Art is the result, and the artist and their style decides the tools. I've watched world class photographers use the cheapest cameras meant for children make amazing art. And it's a shame that so many who claim to be artists try to tear down the tools they don't use.
Couldn't agree more
It's just like the photographers that told me "Instax photography isn't real photography". Like haters gonna hate lol
Exactly
I am planning to buy this because this is perfect way to get some Polaroids from my phone without the hassle of wasting film.
These are interesting little contraptions with hacking potential. They’re essentially mini peasant enlargers that could be repurposed into a makeshift film back or mini enlarger for 35mm or as a 6x7 positive film reversal thing. Lots of interesting possibilities with these, especially once you begin to explore swapping the lens and experimenting with instant papers, photographic films and paper. This is a Polaroid camera without the mirrors, what else could we want (other than a larger version of this)? Rig it up to a bellows and go to town . Massively underrated device.
I am actually using the Polaroid Lab right now to turn photos I made (with my iPhone or with several analogue cameras) into emulsion lifts to put in my next poetry collection.
Im actually going to buy one, saw the ad on facebook a couple days ago, and it interested me, and as i researched more, the more it aimed for what i like, and your review really makes me full in for it!
I just never wanted the Polaroid instant cameras, cause it takes me a few shots to get a correct photo, so i dont want it to cost me with each shot i take.
I cant wait!!
Did you end up liking it??
Ha! I initially bought this exactly so that I could produce a close-up of a Lego figure. I hadn't thought of cutting out the middle man. Thanks!
Oh, and for anyone considering buying one, there's a collage feature that I've not (partly because 9 Polaroids = expensive), but there's also an option to include AR videos into printed photos that you can then view with the app, which seems really neat.
As someone who does 3D art, this is an insanely cool way to showcase my portfolio, not to mention the AR integration which could be used to showcase animations or make an image reel.
Thanks for showing some ideas. I have one and consider it as my own small Lab. I hardly use my iPhone for taking pictures but have transfered pictures from digital cameras to my iPhone to get the Polaroid analog print. Just got an idea, take pictures with a TLR or other analog camera, have the film processed and scanned, transfer the scan to the iPhone, edited or not, and make a photo with the Polaroid Lab, could be a lot of fun.
Oh that’s an awesome idea!
Thanks for this.
The Lab gets so much hate but it’s a really great way to share MY DSLR shots or have them added to my office decor
Just got mine, about a week ago and it’s amazing! I’m loving it, so many things I can do with it!
That’s awesome!
Heyyyy , can you explain me how to use it ?? I just got mine
The Polaroid Film is so expensive, this little machine takes out a lot of the possibilities for errors, especially on the casual photos.
It doesn't take away from your art, it is just another tool on your belt.
Thank you for the video.
Unfortunately yes the film is expensive
Nice. I got one for myself and this video is really helpful. I've used sx-70 and other Polaroids for over 20 years and this is another way to enjoy photography, so fun to use!
That’s awesome!
there is zero way you have so few subscribers, I found you through my Christmas shopping review searches and thought you were 100k+, amazing work man keep killing it!!!
Well thank you! Maybe one day I will get there!
I started to get into Polaroid as I have stopped using a smartphone so for that reason I have over looked this, But one of the Cameras I love to use is a pentax Q and that I can see this being useful a useful addition for..
after seeing this I AM GETTING THIS! you sold me on it when I seen your Ron Swanson replica pic hahahaha I love that show!
Haha yes!! That show is the best!
I love Polaroid & film in general but sometimes I just want to bring my camera on a trip & it's a little too bulky & delicate. I will definitely be getting one soon! I also love to make copies for friends/family and feel like this will come in handy for my memories & my art! This review definitely sold me
Glad it was helpful!!
But.... this is just as bulky and delicate
This channel deserves a comment for the algorithm !!!
Well thank you!
Just got mine yesterday! I love it so far!
amazing!
Just to clarify, if you cover the sensor you could take a picture from your phone without the app?
I enjoy my Polaroid camera because of the memories. I love handling the camera to random people during my trips and see their excitement and anxiety when pressing the button. I think this is an amazing product but I don't feel any excitement towards it: that's not what polaroid is to me. Still I admire the innovation
I was trying to decide about hacking one of these into a transparency copier or film back....
YOU SOLD ME ON IT!!! Thanks for the Video!!!
Oh that’s awesome!!
I watched this video and bought a lab! Any chance you can share the Ron Swanson file so I can print my own replica?
Nice one fella and I agree with your take on the definition of Polaroid art 👌
Very cool ! I’ve been intrigued by the lab and totally get it’s purpose and what can be done with it. But I’m afraid if I got one, my Polaroid cameras would collect dust .....
Great video as usual !!!!
Glad you liked the video! Yeah I know you mean but I still prefer using a camera over this. It’s just a nice tool to have laying around
How do you use it as a macro camera ?
I don’t understand why you need to use the app AND then scan?
If you need the app to choose the photo? doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the scan? At that point couldn’t it just print off the app, like any other photo printer?
I would like to set this up at a party to use like a photobooth, where people can take pictures (with their own phone), and then print the photos. Is that possible with this thing? Or does everyone need to download the app. TIA
PLEASE keep us updated if you do send it to Nick Offerman!! That'd be the best Parks & Rec "prop" ever!
Oh i will!!
Interesting video - would have liked to have seen more about how you used the Lab without a phone than what you did.
Well the title of the video “3 reasons WHY” not 3 demonstrations
@@JustAnotherChris obviously seeing how it’s done isn’t going to be part of why one might want to do something - it’s all about the result /s
I wonder if you could put the Polaroid Lab up against the ground glass screen of a large format camera, or the ground glass in the viewfinder of something like a Hasselblad 500. I'm thinking of getting a Polaroid Lab just to try this. The possibilities would be endless!
Hmmm might not be bright enough for the exposure
@@JustAnotherChris Yeah, that's a possibility!
I like the idea of recreating props with this. It woul be super cool to have some polaroids from Life is strange
Indeed!!
Can you use the polaroid Pinter to copy already made Polaroid pictures?
Yes and no. Results are mixed
Why didn't they make the lab connect to your phone through the app instead of needing to place your phone on the top
Is the quality any good
I love the idea of this but my photos keep coming out looking dim and i can not figure out why for the hell of it.
Hmmm check your phone screen brightness. I turn mine all the way up when I use the lab
Hi. I think that it would be fake if someone try to show the pictures as it is was take it with a real one. But i'm reconsidering to have my own as just another tool to express myself.
True!
Omg I have a lab and had no idea you could do macro with it. Thank you!
Get on that!
I have yet to get one, but yers ago I got the Fuli instax Mini printer which works by bluetooth ... dig it, but sorta stopped using it because I am more camera oriented!!!
Yeah it’s not for everyone but you can do some fun things
Im picking up what you are putting down but do you really think the $270 aud price is worth it?
What’s $270?
@@JustAnotherChris the product you're promoting on this video. In Australia it's $270
That’s wild. It retails for $120 here.
@@JustAnotherChris plus it has to be ordered from America, because it's such a niche item so that's another $70 in postage.
Time to make an rb67 back out of one!
Polaroid lab is an interesting concept while I love the idea something like that makes the point of owning a polaroid camera pointless as you can take better photos with your phone then print it but it's cool that you
can do more with polaroid lab
I was waiting to find out more about the Polaroid and ended up hearing about the guests and how how ppl perceive art. 🤷🏻♀️
Hey Chris what about cryptid pictures from the internet with the polaroid lab!
I am new to using the Polaroid Lab and my photos seem to always be coming out dark. I tried to change the exposure setting through the app and it doesn’t seem to be helping. Has anyone found a best starting place to get the pictures from their to look the best?
Hmmm maybe try and turn your phones brightness all the way up
@@JustAnotherChris Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for a good informative video!
Absolutely!
Great video Chris! Can you make a video in your settings logs using the lab? I keep getting mixed results..
Hmm settings like what exactly?
@@JustAnotherChris Maybe some of the contrast and brightness settings? Im constantly getting dark and yellowed photos and would love to know how youve adjusted your settings!
@@JustAnotherChris yeah the contrast and brightness. Having problems with my pictures come out green and dark. Or too overexposed.
PLEASE DO A LIFE IS STRANGE PHOTOSHOOT
Hmm maybe
@@JustAnotherChris would be the perfect instant photoshoot!
It’s a possibility I would have to find a model
@@JustAnotherChris yeah but like just a LiS themed photoshoot would be really fun! :) thanks for answering overall
Can you take a picture of a polaroid photo to duplicate "real" polaroid pics. Or is it not heavy enough
I actually have a video coming SOOOON on this concept
Great vid as always! I'm curious - what's your take on why they chose to make it take a photo of your phone instead of just getting the image through bluetooth? Also, how do you feel about the image quality / resolution!?
I think it separates itself from its competition as well as keeping the aesthetic of it being a Instant camera. The overall quality is pretty decent
@@JustAnotherChris Thanks for the quick reply! Adding it to the wishlist!
I can't with snobby pretentious notions that one thing can't be art for any arbitrary reason.
Good video! I'm really interested in this product, and it was a good watch. :) Thanks!
Exactly!! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Has anyone had issues with underexposure? My brightness is all the way up, true tone and dark mode are off, brightness in the app is all the way up, no screen protector or case, and they're still coming out barely visible
It can depend on the image. If the image is dark it’s going to have trouble transferring on to film.
Just divin' into the comments to say howdy!
Always good seeing you around these parts!
Does the phone size matter? I have a galaxy 20 ultra so it's definitely on the bigger size.
I don’t believe it does
Has anyone tried making a profile for Lightroom using colorchecker? I was thinking about trying with my already color calibrated scanner, but My brain short circuits! Basically I don’t know if the profile would be “backwards” or adjusting colors the wrong way. Thoughts?
Hmmm that sounds interesting 🧐 I haven’t tried that before
@@JustAnotherChris yeah I don’t expect perfect color since it’s a Polaroid! However it would be nice getting in the ballpark without wasting film! I actually have a project coming up where I’d like the results to look at least consistent, so I might try to do this. I’ll report back!
Definitely do so! Also considering checking out the discord the people in there would LOVE to see that stuff. discord.gg/Ad2TDZJX
I want one!
Get one!
Does the Polaroid Lab is compatible with iPhone 13 mini?
I would assume it would
Obviously Fuji have their version..... of which I have bought into.... I love this tech! It frees you up in so many ways! AND you can give the same image to multiple friends :-)
Exactly!!
Nice video. I may get into one. My fear is the compatibility with future phones.
I don’t think that will be an issue since the size of the opening is always going to stay the same
Yayyy!
Mobile instant printers exist 🤔
Not sure what your meaning
how frickin cool was this video omg?!!! totally nailed it with the ron swanson polaroid dude, that was genius! keep it up ⭐️👍🫶
Glad you liked it!
An evolved form of a photocopier?
I suppose that’s one way of looking at it
do you think if you modded the Lab to take mid range shots it’ll become an actual polaroid camera 😂
Yeah that’s a real possibility haha
@@JustAnotherChris honestly this seems like a stupid fun idea. I'll definitely try something out. Could be a topic for a pretty cool video.
Keep me posted!
People use photoshop on their Polaroids to enhance their photos. I don’t want to hear people complaining.
GOOD ASX VIDEO!!! THANK U
Glad you enjoyed it!
'can this be shot on a polaroid' is stupid argument. It's like they forget the entire market segment for polaroid is being used as a back medium format cameras.
😂
No dislikes on this video nice 😎
Must be a good one then!
I'm sorry but I think this thing is so stupid. Fuji sells Instax printers that really print and give you options to zoom, rotate, adjust and add stuff. This thing just takes a picture of your phone screen.
But what if people want their imagine in a Polaroid and not instax.
Does it work with round frames film? 🤔
I am actually using the Polaroid Lab right now to turn photos I made (with my iPhone or with several analogue cameras) into emulsion lifts to put in my next poetry collection.
Now that’s a great idea!
