Cataclysm still holds the best story, and probably will do after HW3 release. Barking Dog devs had more love for Homeworld, than Homeworld's creators.
The Somtaaw are even greater warrior then even the mighty Kiith Nabaal. They earned the name Beast Slayers and sacrificed much and risked all to save everyone

This is the Science Fiction that gives me life. The kinds of stories that are more than just techno jargon. Stories about love, life, death. Empires and Conquerors. The stories that might take in place among stars and spaceships but could be read in an ancient tome or carved onto the walls of a lost temple. Tales that are Mythic.
Yes my friend, sounds like we both come from the same place of being amazed at civilizations both real and fiction.
We need more games like this. No microtransactions, no battlepasses. Just an incredible narrative experience

Man the music in these games is something else.
It wasn't Karen's fleet, it was the fleet of all surviving Kushanii. Rachael set out to find out what happened to her brother several years after a satellite was launched and detected the great anamoly. You're making it sound like it was only those two people who did anything of note.
It's a 5 minute summary. Chill out.

@@Jadefox32 That would imply that the story would be a lot more personal and revolve and Karen and Imojen's relationship, since they emphasized the Sjets as individuals so much.

@@makaan5516What part of being absorbed by eldritch sentient monster can be called chessy. In the same regard homeworld 2 can be considered cheesy because it's literally happened because some dude heard of ancient prophecy and decided he is the chosen one.
@@durema9720 all of it. Monster, zombie ships, etc, like a cheap horror movie. No depth, no legend, no history. HW2 is larger than just moving ships on screen. Cataclysm never reaches beyond that.

No. In the demo all Somtaaw ships had a basic emblem of this kiith, not the Beastslayers' one. This means, Cataclysm is still non-canon

1:29 Why are Taiidan probes shooting missiles that blow up Kharak? Did they not watch their own old cutscenes?
They gloss over an awful lot in the trailer, some of which is really important. Like the impetus for which the Taiidan Empire destroyed Kharak in the first place. Or the entire reason Homeworld 2 happened.
It was not shown in the game what exactly launched the missile to Kharak. The fire wave spread from the part of the planet where the probe flew.

What about Homeworld Cataclysm?
They addressed it a couple years ago and said are not considering it as canonical to the story. Only Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak, Homeworld 1 & 2 are considered "canon".

@@Hathur I'm pretty sure they said it WAS canon but aren't directly referencing it aside from a few details like the Somtaaw being called "Beast Slayers" and the Beastslayer logo being in the game.
Theyve always been butthurt that it did better than hw2. 20 years of butthurt.
It’s cannon, the beastslayers emblem is on some carriers in the tutorial. The video here was more of a s’jet recap and not homeworld as a whole.

You cant start at kharak! Its their prison planet! You need to explain why they were banished there in the first place. Tidan don't just show up and start blasting for no reason!

Hang on Wasnt the first core discovered when a satellite malfunctioned and looked at the planet and not space. That's what it said in the original book that came with the game
The first in-game cutscene in HW1 says: "100 years ago, a satellite detected an object under the sands of the Great Desert. An expedition was sent. An ancient starship, buried in the sand." The core was discovered by the expedition itself, not by the satellite
@@slave7659 uh the satellite detected it ? Isn't that finding it then they wouldn't have discovered it otherwise would they. They would just find it not discovered it the satellite did that
@@user-ow4sd6xj6n the satellite detected only a wreckage with some kind of anomaly in it. There were another anomalies throughout the Great Desert, so there's only the exploration team's effort in discovering the core - the "primary" anomaly

Doesn't hit the same without Campbell Lane. Idk why but this feels washed down. They didn't really highlight the music in these trailers either like they did for Homeworld 2. Really hope i'm wrong.

what happened to the old style of cut scenes? these look strange and NOT homeworld like the old black and white ones where great! why change it! also can we see gameplay now or have a SP demo so we know that ALL the many many issues and missing features have been fixed! with the extra time you took otherwise hard NO! sale

Fans of the series already know all this.
New players - rarely care about it until they hooked by something.
This trailer should hook people to play the new game but it's 3 minutes retelling the story of the first games. So new players will go and play them instead, wait for the sales on this one.
Or better yet - hw2 was 21 years ago (omg), do we REALLY need to ground this game in that story? If not - what the purpose of this trailer?

It's just you. This game has been in the works years before stellar blade was announced.
@amoose3582 it's not just him. This cinematic hasn't been in the works years before, it could have been slapped together in a couple of months by a Korean studio and you know the Asians aren't in a rush to adopt toxic western ideology.

If anything it was inspired by the original 1984 movie. First Homeworld came out in 1999.
Might as well say Star Wars, since the only common theme of both franchises and Homeworld, is they feature a sand planet.
Homeworld 1 was more reminiscent of Battlestar Galactica if anything. A fleet of ships searching for their lost home.

Ugh. Sticking with the rubbish homeworld 2 retcons to the plot, ignoring cataclysm. Doesn't bode well for the gameplay or the story when the garbage entry to the franchise is the jumping off point.
