I tell everyone this movie is the version of Buffy's origin as told by Andrew (Tucker's brother). It all makes more sense and is quite improved in that light, I think.
Funny true story (maybe you've heard this before). When Sarah Michelle Galler first got the part of Buffy she went to a party with a bunch of younger actors. Keifer Sutherland was in the group (son of actor Donald Sutherland). They all talked about their auditions and upcoming work. Sarah was proud that she got the lead in BTVS. Keifer Sutherland said: "Wasn't my dad in the movie? It was terrible. Oh well. It's okay, you'll (Sarah) get other parts." He thought BTVS wasn't going be good. That it might only last a few epsiodes.
I moved in with an old friend and he had one rule: The TV had to be on Buffy on Tuesday nights. I was very confused by this since I had seen the movie and had absolutely no interest in watching the series because of the movie. He didn't have a VCR, so he would get up at 7pm to watch it then go back to bed (he worked 3rd shift). I watched 2 episodes with him and thought it was smartly funny. During the 2nd episode, I asked my friend if there was a fight scene in every episode. He grinned, nodded and said "Yep". This made me interested, so I hooked up my VCR so he wouldn't have to disrupt his sleep on Tuesday and to record the reruns so I could know the full story and understand some of the references the characters made that made my friend laugh. 18:35 Ben Affleck in the house!
It should be noted that in the first episode, the principal noted that she burned down her old school's gymnasium ("it was full of vamp- asbestos" - a highly underrated & completely hilarious line),
Yeah the show was supposed to be a direct sequel but joss got control. So parts of the story changed but the overall origin story is the same as the movie. And it’s the best thing ever honestly. The movie even camp is still great for a laugh.
Yes, the movie is a prequel in a way. Since in the tv show they talk about how Buffy set the gym on fire. Which is what happens in the movie. In the tv show there is also the scene where Buffy is first approached by a watcher. She's pretty much just like this. Longer hair, short skirt and sucking a lolly pop. She changed after having more experience as a slayer.
The buffy movie is better IF you watch it first... Joss wrote both but the movies director made it their own and Joss didn't see it as his place to speak up. But Joss had complete control of the series and also had the benefit of the movie to see how careful they needed to be with tone to make buffy what it was instead of being too camp or to light. The series is a direct continuation from the movie, they explain in the pilot that buffy had to move to sunnydale after the trouble at her last school. She would obviously be more serious after the events of the movie, the one thing they did thankfully change was her mom. Joss also realized they needed the scooby gang. In a lot of ways I don't think buffy would have been what it was as a TV series if not for the director of the movie showing Joss how 'not' his vision it could be if he didn't take care with the implementation.
Two season for me. I only started watching it because my older sister asked me to tape it for her. She was working insane hours as an accountant. I was being extra nice by pausing during the commercials, then I got hooked. LOL
It was on season 6 for me. And at that point my one friend who was a couple years younger than me had it on in the background a lot and that's how I ended up getting hooked. I saw the movie early. Had no interest in the show
It was not really written by Joss Whedon since Donald Sutherland and the director changed everything. The only saving grace is Kristy Swanson's performance. She completely nailed the character of Buffy, especially given what she had to work with.
There were a couple of things cut from the script for this movie, that Joss added back in to the first couple of Buffy episodes. Instead of the traditional coffin, Lothos was supposed to be introduced rising out of a pool of blood, so we got that for the Master’s introduction, and the original script had Buffy taking out Peewee with the “you forgot about sunrise…it’s in about nine hours, moron” she used on Luke in “The Harvest”
@@B-Dad Angel is the definition of mainstream standard looks and wears a crushed velvet suit in the first episode and looks like a giggalo 🤨 but nice try lol
I like this movie for what it is. Campy silliness. Of course I saw it before the show, so that probably helps keep it from being tainted in comparison. It's an entirely different entity than the show. Of course it's not the masterpiece the show is, because it's just silly campiness. I think it's worth it just for Paul Ruebens death scene alone. Given the very basic events are what was supposed to have happened before the show (with some changes) I headcannon this as Andrews version of telling the story
While this film isn’t fully canon to the tv show as there was a comic covering that version of Buffy’s origin but a lot of the basic bits such as her been more like Cordelia personality wise before becoming a slayer and her living in LA etc all still remain
I saw the movie first, before the show came out, and loved it. Of course, I was like eight at the time LOL, but this movie will always make me feel super nostalgic, and I still love it. It's campy and ridiculous but so fun!
Joss Whedon hates this movie, he said the studio took his script and butchered it, he wasnt allowed to make his serious version. Many people dont realise there was a female producer who allowed Joss to make the tv show his way, shes mentioned in some of the features on the dvds
@MH-jx1hc I /think/ you’re referring to “Buffy: The Origin”, adapted from the screenplay. Haven’t read it myself, so to borrow a line from Cowboy Bebop: “I don’t know and I have no opinion.”
@@arc7375 yeah Dolly was like a silent producer, i wonder what kind of in put she had tho. Also there was another female producer that pushed for the movie to be a tv show more than Joss
I saw the movie when it came out, so well before a series was expected. To me at the time it was a typical silly vampire movie of the time, notable only for the scenes lke the outlandish minion dying. But it does in my opinion help to see the evolution of the buffyverse from the start. Plus it came with the song by the Divinyls.
The way they took Joss' vision and wrecked it in this movie is the whole reason Buffy the show exists, Joss hated how they changed it from serious to total campiness, and when he got a chance to do it right he really did do it right. I enjoy the movie despite its campiness, but it is definitely not completely canon. 😂 Luckily I did see the movie first, and it cracked me up at times - I actually own it on VHS tape. I appreciate it for what it is - and for the fact that what was done with it inspired Joss to "do it right" with the series. And damn, but the series is EPIC. ❤
@@Madbandit77absolutely, especially as it first got rolling. And it has some campy moments in every season. But overall, it is way better than the movie - which I still enjoy as a guilty pleasure every once in a while. I'm pretty sure Paul Reubens' vampire wasn't actually staked through the heart, and he was hamming it up for the fun of it... :)
I know everyone said to watch this AFTER the show, but I would have done it PRIOR. Dont know why everyone thinks it should come after, it would help understand the first season more.
I saw the movie before the series...and yeah, I saw the series when it premiered, anyway. For me, the only enjoyable part of the movie longer than a line was Paul Ruebens' way-over-acted death scene. Needless to say, I was hooked on the BtVS series on the opening episode 2-parter (well, maybe not that Angel character, but he got better fairly quickly).
I had the exact opposite experience as you. I saw the movie first, around age 10-12 or so, then the show came out a few years later. I didn’t even watch the show at first because it was a different cast, but when I finally watched it, it became my favorite tv show of all time. I still love the movie for what it is, but the show is something special.
I just consider it high camp. I saw the movie first, because it came out first and I watched it in real life time. I went into it figuring it would be a hoot just from the title and to be honest, I had a mad crush on Rutger Hauer (Lothos) after Ladyhawke, I liked Donald Sutherland (the Watcher), liked Luke Perry and Kristy Swanson, so I assumed I'd at least enjoy it somewhat. I don't know if you noticed, but one of the basketball players during the game was baby Ben Affleck. I don't think he's credited, but he's there. And I think this was Hilary Swank's first role. I hadn't seen David Arquette before. So a lot of talent in this movie, even if they did kind of take the power away from Joss and mess up his original ideas. I definitely saw a lot of potential in the movie, felt it could have been done a lot better, so was glad when they made the tv show out of it.
So the basic background. Yes, Joss Whedon is the creator of the character of Buffy. He wrote the screenplay (though it got changed a lot from what he wrote). But not having massive amounts of money, nor his own production company at the time, he, as most writers to/have to do, sold the movie rights to an actual production company. At that point you no longer have control. The story goes that Donald Sutherland being the biggest name in the movie, had a lot of say in changing it. Not that he had any power to change anything either, but they listened to him. He saw the movie as being more campy than serious, while it was intended to be more like the show. Joss was actually the director and walked off the set before it was finished when he was fed up with the direction it took and his loss of any say in anything.
Coming from the perspective of one who saw the movie during it's original theatrical release. I love the movie, but I think the series is better than the movie. Not to mention I like watching the movie to remember the three actors in the movie who have passed away in recent years, Luke Perry, Rutger Hauer, and Paul Reubens(aka Peewee Herman).
I saw the movie when it first came out. Don't recall whether I saw it in theater or when it came out on VHS. (Yes, I'm that old. ;) ) It was okay, but I wasn't terribly impressed. Because of that, I wasn't motivated to seek out the TV show when it came out. It was only when I was travelling overseas on business that I stumbled upon a couple of Season 6 episodes ("Dead Things" and "Older and Far Away" to be precise) when looking for something, anything, in English to watch. After I peeled my jaw up off the floor, and got home from the trip, I immediately began looking for the series and binging it from the beginning. It's been a favorite ever since.
@17:44 in my head canon this is the same character as Billy from the Buffy episode Lie to me who try to get spike to turn him into a vampire in exchange for Buffy
The film has some good points. Kristy Swanson is the best thing about the movie and Luke Perry equps himself well. Donald Sutherland chews the furniture but is always good. Unfortunately, it's the vampires who let it down the most. Comedy works best if the actors don't act as if they are in one and the vampires are just hammy, dumb and unfunny.
This is Buffy Summers' origin story. If you enjoy things like Clueless, it's a lot easier to be cool with this movie. As for me, I saw this before I saw even a single episode of the show, and I found it funny as heck, because of how *stupid* Buffy was to start, and how totally *badass* she ended up being.
I was a kid and found this movie at a blockbusters. 😅 i had seen some of the show, so i was extremely excited. Lol only to be totally destroyed at how bad it was. Lol
19:44 He did say “Look! Air!” This was when Buffy was like Cordelia. She mentions some of it during the show. 25:30 Best death scene Thanks for watching it. It is “bad” but worth seeing to get an idea of how it all started.
This movie was my first introduction to Buffy and at the time I really liked the movie. I would watched it everytime it was on HBO (or was it Cinemax)… anyway, when I heard there was a tv show I didn’t care, I thought it was silly to watch a tv show based on that movie… I started watching the series on Season 4 I that’s when I found out how wrong I was! So I had to wait for the full seasons dvds to finally watch the early seasons!
The movie is pretty bad, even for campiness... I'm amazed a network did a tv series based upon this. Joss Whedon must have sold the $h1t out of it in person. I didn't watch the first two season of BTVS because of the movie. My older sister asked me to tape it, because she was working late. I got hooked. LOL .. RE: A mark. (It could've been cool, like the witches in Motherland: Fort Salem. Something that changes when they become The Slayer).
I grew up with this movie. Loved it as a kid. I could never bring myself to watch the show because I enjoyed the film so much. Also, it bugged me whenever someone referred to Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy (outside of the show) because Kristy Swanson is Buffy to me.
16:50 The first time a guy is called. A man is a big deal to us. I’m pretty sure most of us remember the first time we were ever called a man. It changes a lot after that. It doesn’t mean we actually are a man most of the time we’re not old enough yet, but we see ourselves different after that that’s I think what that scene was trying to convey
Despite the very few flashbacks we get of Buffy before the series, it would have been cool to see the events of the movie retold with Sarah Michelle Gellar with the quality of the show.
What i think is unfair is that apparently no one told you the film is a comedy. I think that THAT'S what everyone who reacts to this after watching the show has a hard time reconciling. Your expectations were that it would at least match the tone of the series. The film is really just its own thing, and i love it for that
I recommend checking out Dark Horse Comics' three issue miniseries "Buffy the Origin". It's an adaptation of Joss Whedon's original Buffy the Vampire Slayer screenplay.
I grew up watching this movie. When we found out it became a show! Plus w my girl Sarah Michelle Gellar. Omg we were losing it back in my day. And now I've said back in my day so I'm gonna go take some metamucil or something
Simply put, Joss Whedon wanted the movie to be more like the series would be but he was overruled by the producers of the movie. They wanted a bubblegum slapstick comedy. Joss disliked the movie. However, I saw the movie before the series and I remember it taking a while to get used to Sarah's Buffy.
You absolutely should have watched this FIRST - it wouldn't look quite so bad if you didn't have to compare it to the series. RE: prequel status - Whedon hated what the studio/director ended up doing with his property but they did reference the events in the movie in the very first episode of the series, if you'll recall.
I saw this at cinema. The series definitely surpasses this, but without this, it never would have happened. This is 4 years after "Heathers" that has a lot of comic sensibilities and representation of current culture pettiness. There is so much TV series content so the culture shift would be a neck-breaking whiplash!
Fun fact about spike’s character and the rest of the vampires in the Buffyverse. They are based Keifer Suttherlands character in the Lost Boys, how they look human at first then change into their demonic vampire face
I think the series is a sequel to the script of the movie, not the movie itself. I think they turned the script into a comic book which tells the original story.
I don’t hate the movie but it’s not my favorite. I did watch the movie first and was interested in the show by the trailers. The show starts after the event in the movie. My husband prefers the movie because he’s more into campy humor.
I actually didn't start watching the show until early Season 3, because... why did a terrible movie need to be made into a tv show? I obviously saw the error of my ways with the show, but the movie is still tough to watch.
I saw this movie on cable as a kid way before I watched Buffy the show and always thought it was fun. The story is that Joss Whedon wrote this movie with it being the same tone as the show in his mind. But the studio and director had a different vision. They took it way more camp. And while some of the dialogue and themes in this are clearly Joss Whedon, some of the tone is very different. And in the end Joss didn’t like the way the movie turned out. So he was very excited when 5 years later he was given the opportunity to do a tv show version where he had more control. But a version of this film with Merrick being her first watcher and the stuff in the gym did happen in the shows continuity but not all the details are the same. I believe there is a prequel comic book that has a very similar story to this that is cannon but it’s for the most part based on the original script for the film which is very similar. The original thought of naming her Buffy was that Buffy was the prototypical “rich valley girl” name in the 80s. The original version of the character was always supposed to be the vapid valley girl that is captured in this movie more than the show. That’s why when we see her in the flashbacks in Becoming the season 2 finale she is much more vapid at her old school.
I think this movie is entertaining for what it is, but it's nowhere near the caliber of the tv show. The studio massively interfered and totally changed the vision that Joss had in mind. That's the main reason he went on to create the show, so he could make Buffy what he initially intended it to be. Honestly, I'm glad everything played out the way it did so that we were able to get such an amazing show out of it.
It’s not just you. The movie is crap the show is a masterpiece. It’s not often that you get another bite at the apple so Jose got a chance to do in the show what he wanted to do all along but which Hollywood ruined the first time.
I only started Buffy at the end of season 2 because I saw this at the cinema and thought it was a joke to vampire monster genre. It wasn't even ironically bad. Not even so bad that it's good.
I don't think it's that bad, but I watched it only once when it came out, without great discernment. I'll admit, I was surprised they were tv showing it, but that just made me more curious how it would work. I pretty much would consume anything vamp, as a ch*tl*t, anyways.
@@bipbop3121 I was going through my Anne Rice phase around the same time it was at the movies. It took me a lot of convincing to watch the series. A full season.
The Buffy movie is almost supposed to be the first half of season 1 of Buffy. Season 1 only had 12 episodes and it kept referencing when she burned the school down in LA and whatever. Even though the movie was out like 4 years earlier it's almost the first half.
Whedon was NOT happy with the final product. There are rumors that Donald Sutherland insisted on modifying the script in ways that Joss disagreed with, but he didn't have the sway to override it. That said, because I saw the movie before the series, I had rather low expectations when the series was announced, and unsurprisingly it soon became my favorite TV show. Joyce is such a better character in the series than in the movie, of course. And I'm glad that they got rid of the menstrual cramp vampire signal, that would have been difficult to deal with over 7 seasons!
Kaz and Fran Kuzui, who you see in the opening credits of all the Buffyverse shows bought Joss Whedon's original movie script for them to produce and direct. Joss has made a number of statements about how he was not happy with how they directed the movie, its tone, and the changes they made. When he bought back the TV rights and was able to get it picked up by a network, the Kuzuis had to be credited, even though they had no involvement in the shows whatsoever.
The Buffy movie became a camp cult movie, of course Kristy Swanson was the actress who played the original Buffy with Donald Sutherland a big Hollywood name to take the role of Merrick, and Rutger Hauer as Lothos, and the course the late Luke Perry who was a 90s teen heartthrob in Beverly Hills 90210 who sadly died so young a few years ago. Whedon of course wasn't too happy with the film, which of course led on the the TV Series which it eventually led to. In fairness its a fun watch, others who became big names in it are Hilary Swank and David Arquette, Dewey from Scream. Interestingly enough this was Directed by Fran Rebel Kuzui, who is constantly credited as Producer in the BTVS TV series even though she had nothing to do with it as does Kaz Kuzui. Another interesting piece of trivia round this is that a young unknown Ben Affleck was in this as a basketball player, and Ricki Lake also who had a massive chat show in the US in the 90s. We of course get the continuity in BTVS TV series as this film was set in Hemery High School which of course was the school Buffy transferred from to Sunnydale High in the TV show. My favourtite scene is when Merrick throws the knife and Buffy catches it before her face, this was similar in Becoming S2 E22 of BTVS when Angel is going to kill Buffy and she catches the sword before her face. Hey Kassidy as mnetioned in your live stream you should check out the unaired pilot from the BTVS show it is on youtube in its entirety, it contains a different actress, Riff Regan playing Willow, and is slightly different to S1 E1 Welcome To The Hellmouth, but it's actually really good. It has a few brilliant scenes they should have kept in, the bit where Buffy does and acrobatic vault in library, and the ending where she throws the stake through the Nostradamus poster.
You can pretty much sum it up this way: Joss Whedon wanted what the TV series ended up being, while the director and producers wanted a by-the-numbers 80s teen farce. They got their wish, he did not get his. Whedon turned to television after that (not just for Buffy but in his career in general) because he saw television as much more of a writer's medium than movies. The tight schedule for shooting a season of a TV series means they shoot the scripts almost exactly as written, with no time for directors to call for rewrites, and that's what he wanted after seeing his Buffy story butchered. Whedon only returned to movies when he was in a position to be both writer and director of any project he worked on.
I felt the same as you haha,i saw this on tv ,i remember seeing buffy and thought it was the series but was the movie (i was like 11 years old) i cringed so hard . Watching it again kinda didn't change my mind but had a better appreciation for it .
I rented the VHS from the video shop in 1993 when I was 12 and i thought it was the best film I've ever seen in my whole life. But that was before the series! Sarah is my slayer and this film is just a bit of nostalgic fun.
If you like Buffy the vampire Slayer here is a list of few series that you would also enjoy. Supernatural,Grimm, teen Wolf the legendary Hercules and Xena. Watch the first season of Hercules then start Xena first season alongside season 2 of Hercules.
I saw the movie first, and avoided the series on the air until I picked up the Season 1 DVD set on a whim when I didn’t want to shell out $90 for The Sopranos. I only started watching live for Season 7. If the movie had been good I might have tried the series from the start on the air.
Whedon got screwed and had no control; so, his concept got butchered. The great thing about the movie though was that the core concept was strong enough for people to want to see another attempt. The trailer caught my attention. The movie was hugely disappointing, but when the TV show was teased I was onboard from day one. I think that is it's legacy, it created a level of interest that Season 1 might otherwise have lacked.
I really enjoyed the movie for was it was. I think of it as a parody and homage to vampire flicks before it. I think series Buffy was the same character who grew up alo9t after the events of the film.
There were Buffy comics, before the season 8 arc (which were amazing) Pike was part of those stories, and they were pretty cool. (There were also Angel comics.) While this film was very cringe, it kind of functioned as a sort of pilot (BTW, there was a pilot for the show as well- ua-cam.com/video/WR3J-v7QXXw/v-deo.html that demonstrated- more or less- how the show was going to work) and Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee-Feratu) was there to play, and was hilarious.
The one good thing about this movie I gave rise to the tv series. Since Josh was so irritated about how they butchered his script he decided to make a series to show his vision.
I get the negative reactions to the show... But the important part is to show that Buffy was Cordy ... She was the "it" girl .... And it points out why she's always trying to be friends with Cordy. 👏👏👏
28:25 I agree the movie doesn’t hold up at all. In my opinion. The TV show is leaps and bounds above the movie and still holds up to this day at least 99% of the episodes. I watched the movie first, then the TV show and I’ve never watched the movie again until watching your reaction to it. I don’t really even consider the movie as part of the Buffy universe to me it just doesn’t deserve to be part of the TV show universe. It’s just a movie and the TV show is very loosely based on the movie. The slayer’s name, Buffy and the fact that she has a watcher that’s really all they carried over into the tv show from the movie
sarah make fun of the movie (i think) when they make a flashback and met the first watcher, she act silly and cringy and "bad" well when you see this movie you know gellar make a perfect portrail of this buffy. this was in BTVS season 2 Becoming (Part 1)
Yeah when you watch the show first and then go back and watch the movie it just makes the movie looks even worse by comparison when in actuality the movie is not that bad and is pretty decent all things considered.
I like to make the Scream / Scary Movie comparison. They both work in their own ways for their own audiences but they are very different despite the common plot / character elements. The thing with the Buffy movie is that Joss wrote the equivalent of Scream but the directors/actors turned it into Scary Movie. That’s incredibly disappointing to anyone familiar with the series or original intent of the movie. The movie itself can still be enjoyable and it was well enough received for someone to make a TV series based on it.
I tell everyone this movie is the version of Buffy's origin as told by Andrew (Tucker's brother). It all makes more sense and is quite improved in that light, I think.
We are as gods!
Oh I love looking at it that way! That way I could totally see it. Thanks for re-contextualizing this flick for me.

RIP Luke Perry! RIP Shannon Doherty. Now Dylan and Brenda are together in heaven. Rest easy 🙏🏾
There was a comic which allegedly depicted Whedon's version of the film. I never got to read it.
@MH-jx1hc I /think/ you’re referring to “Buffy: The Origin”, adapted from the screenplay. Haven’t read it myself, so to borrow a line from Cowboy Bebop: “I don’t know and I have no opinion.”
It’s a good comic
Wasn’t it revealed that the “female producer” for the Buffy TV series was Dolly Parton?
Luckily I did see the movie first, and it cracked me up at times - I actually own it on VHS tape. I appreciate it for what it is - and for the fact that what was done with it inspired Joss to "do it right" with the series. And damn, but the series is EPIC. ❤
To be fair, the show itself has its share of camp.
Joss wheadon was the creator in both the movie and tv series joss wasn't happy with the movie so made a series.
I know everyone said to watch this AFTER the show, but I would have done it PRIOR. Dont know why everyone thinks it should come after, it would help understand the first season more.
Because people who watch the movie first generally won't watch the show.
@@TheUltrahypnotoadBut that logic doesn't make sense when applied to someone who planned on watching both regardless.
I love the movie just as much the series I saw the movie before the series came out.
There's also the 20 something minute unaired pilot.
The staked, taking too long to die vampire, Paul Reubans, also known as Pee-Wee Herman to 80's kids.
@17:44 in my head canon this is the same character as Billy from the Buffy episode Lie to me who try to get spike to turn him into a vampire in exchange for Buffy
TV Buffy said she had a big crush on Billy. I have a hard time seeing her have a crush on that guy.
Its a cult classic lol I remember being so excited when this was becoming a tv show.
Lol
I like this movie from beginning to end
Spike is the "bad boy" type - a mix of classic James Dean and punk Billy Idol
19:44 He did say “Look! Air!”
This was when Buffy was like Cordelia. She mentions some of it during the show.
25:30 Best death scene
Thanks for watching it. It is “bad” but worth seeing to get an idea of how it all started.
This is similar to the the Stargate film vs SG-1(with the exception of the writers of the Stargate film never worked on the series)
Came here just to see the reaction to Paul Ruebens’s death scene.
One of my favorite movies
You missed the ending - my son still laughs till he cries watching it - he's almost 40
To be honest - I haven't wasted 1 min watching the TV show
What i think is unfair is that apparently no one told you the film is a comedy.

There is so much TV series content so the culture shift would be a neck-breaking whiplash!
the movie is a semi-canon prequel to the show. The canon version of the events was published as a comic book.
Have you rewatched the Season 4 finale Restless?
Fun fact about spike’s character and the rest of the vampires in the Buffyverse. They are based Keifer Suttherlands character in the Lost Boys, how they look human at first then change into their demonic vampire face
I think the series is a sequel to the script of the movie, not the movie itself. I think they turned the script into a comic book which tells the original story.
I'm glad you included Paul Reubens' "death" scene -- the only thing I remember about this movie!
I don’t hate the movie but it’s not my favorite. I did watch the movie first and was interested in the show by the trailers. The show starts after the event in the movie. My husband prefers the movie because he’s more into campy humor.
18:35 Ben Affleck (but I think he said they overdubbed his voice)
That moment when you realise that the one-armed vampire is played by Pee Wee Herman ...
It’s not just you. The movie is crap the show is a masterpiece. It’s not often that you get another bite at the apple so Jose got a chance to do in the show what he wanted to do all along but which Hollywood ruined the first time.
*Joss
if spike+buffy was spuffy, does that make pike+buffy puffy?
LOL. Xander is a bit of an updated Pike; both pikes and zanders are freshwater fish.
Do NOT take that principle's stapler. You'll wish you had a big snake around to nom him.
"I'll set the building on fire"
Whedon was NOT happy with the final product. There are rumors that Donald Sutherland insisted on modifying the script in ways that Joss disagreed with, but he didn't have the sway to override it.
That said, because I saw the movie before the series, I had rather low expectations when the series was announced, and unsurprisingly it soon became my favorite TV show.
Joyce is such a better character in the series than in the movie, of course.
And I'm glad that they got rid of the menstrual cramp vampire signal, that would have been difficult to deal with over 7 seasons!
This movie has a lot of problems but the biggest one is that the vampires are not scary or threatening they're just annoying and stupid.
5:55 Hey, it's Steven Root!!! 🤩
18:35 Tiny Ben Affleck!
BIthg fan of both the movie had to crawl so the tv series to run!
I went to the theatre to see this way back when.
Xena>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Hercules
The movie has a few funny moments, however all in all it is bad.
I've seen the movie before the show was even made and I always thought it is bad.
I really enjoyed the movie for was it was. I think of it as a parody and homage to vampire flicks before it. I think series Buffy was the same character who grew up alo9t after the events of the film.
Ohhh - so sorry you had to watch this 😕
There were Buffy comics, before the season 8 arc (which were amazing)
Pike was part of those stories, and they were pretty cool.
(There were also Angel comics.)
While this film was very cringe, it kind of functioned as a sort of pilot
(BTW, there was a pilot for the show as well-
ua-cam.com/video/WR3J-v7QXXw/v-deo.html
that demonstrated- more or less- how the show was going to work)
and Paul Reubens (Pee-Wee-Feratu) was there to play, and was hilarious.
Are you going tonread the comics or not. You keep saying it's over but its not. Sooooo answer please
So, you finished with the movie that came years before a series was ever considerd??
How funky is you're chicken?
I always forgets Hillary swank is in it
The film was proof why a film NOW would NOT work. But it's a nice camp film, but it's gutting to see Kristy Swanson in the role of Buffy.
Тут не было не Ангела не Зандера Не Вилов Корделии да не ко го вобще это совершено другой старый был сюжет ну с этого Фильма сделали Сериал Баффи а потом уже Ангела этот Фильм по сути был Комедией просто.
Why would you do that to yourself! Honestly the film is...not good..
Ben Affleck actually has a uncredited cameo in this. Way before he was famous.
Technically isn't a cameo if he isn't famous.
@@Joker_JAK lol. That's fair.

sarah make fun of the movie (i think) when they make a flashback and met the first watcher, she act silly and cringy and "bad" well when you see this movie you know gellar make a perfect portrail of this buffy. this was in BTVS season 2 Becoming (Part 1)
@@zemoxian this is a great point, if you watch the show on its own merits and try not to compare it to the show then it's a decent fine watch
