Rescuers Pulls Net Out of Seal’s Skin

- We put all our skills and energy into quick and painless rescues to minimize stress to the entangled animal. They are already compromised from limited mobility, undernourishment and injury, and they should not have to suffer any second longer. In most cases, we can cut the entanglement and gently remove it, and the animal is free to go. But once the seal's skin has grown over an entanglement, our job gets a lot harder and we have to become field surgeons to make sure nothing gets left behind on the wound. It is a terrible experience for both, the animal and the rescue team.

That poor seal! He remained calm, but I can only imagine the fear and uncertainty he experienced during the rescue. Finally, he was able to take a deep breath. Now the pain will subside, and he will be able to swim and hunt normally. Thanks so much for making sure every bit was removed. Nice teamwork!🦭♻️
I think eventually, the seal was thinking “Well if they wanted to kill me, they would’ve done it already”
And to think that there's people who are still so ignorant and can't believe that animals have more complex thoughts than just some "dumb animal" that they used to be called. Some of the smartest people can be some of the dumbest some times and can be scientists. Some scientists won't believe something just because a person who isn't a scientist said it. Like the man being attacked by a shark had the shark chased off by dolphins who stayed with him until his group made it to him, literally saving his life. These kinds of people wouldn't agree with the fact that the seal stopped moving because he understood what was going on
L animale ha capito, ha capito che quelle mani erano gentili e amiche intente a dare aiuto, ha capito la bontà di questi umani . Invece noi umani continuiamo a non capire a non vedere i danni che stiamo facendo. Siamo tutti responsabili.
When you feel like you are losing faith in humanity, come check out these videos ! Thank you OCN!
Thank you my heroes for saving him ❤️ greetings to all 😊🙋🏼

Tonys says, "It's ok, puppy." Puppy says, "No it's not - it hurts!!" I love how careful and gentle Dylan is. 🧜🏽♀💜🦭
🙂👍
Dylan doing the cutting! Wow! He’s an expert now and such a difficult surgery. It’s silly, but I am so proud of him. Thanks OCN, not only saving seals, but guiding next generations. Bravo!
It's not silly. I'm proud of him too!
@@haggielady I am also proud of him 👏.
Yes he has become an expert despite himself. The rivers, the seas and the oceans have become real dumps. But yes great job fromage the team by the way 👍
And i love the way Antoine scratch the head of the seal during the saving 🤗
Young eyeballs are a real help. 👀
That baby was so good when you know his pain was excruciating with what you were forced to do. Your patience and thoroughness is amazing.
And adding that little head scritch was sweet.
Step by step and little by little Dylan is earning his OCN rescuer title
The team deserves a standing ovation for this rescue. Surgery on the fly with nothing more than a multitool and crochet hook! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏GREAT JOB, EVERYONE!
What can anybody say than RESPECT and ADMIRATION for OCN? ❤
Tony is so compassionate giving that seal a reassuring scratch on the head.
Poor pup. So greatful you’re there to help them. 🙏🏻
👍
That was so painful to watch! Thank you Dylan and all the OCN team for saving the seals!
thank you guys ❤
👍
Oh my goodness, that poor pup. Thank goodness OCN were onsite at CC this day and saved this seals life.
Dylan did a great job with this delicate rescue and his skills are developing really well.
Thank you Naude, Denzil, Tony and Dylan for your hard work.
All of you went the extra mile for that one. Great job! Thank you OCN Seal Rescue Team, for all you do.
It was like watching surgeons perform major surgery. That pup knew you were helping him. Thank you team OCN.... God bless you❤
Thank you, OCN!
Низкий Вам поклон за добро ‘ которое Вы делаете !!! Это очень важно и необходимо помогать братьям нашим меньшим 🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
❤💯💥
Great job Dylan, you cut that net as carefully as possible so as not to cause the poor seal any more pain than he was already in. Thanks guys, for always having so much empathy for these beautiful animals.💕🦭
When you look into the eyes of the second puppy. You can see the pain it's feeling thanks to the carelessness of people who throw trash without thinking of the damage it causes! This happens on the land also!
Молодцы,ОТРЯД добровольцев по спасению животных.
I’m so invested not only in each seal’s rescue but in your whole world. So proud of Dylan for progressing so much in his involvement. What a cool way to be growing up.
The pain she must have been experiencing must have been extraordinary. For any of us we would have all types of pain relief given before that surgery. Great job saving her life
That poor seal was flinching 😢bless him 😪.Hopefully he’ll feel much better now xxx
What a fine rescue. Delicate work needed to be done but that poor seal knew you were saving him. Well done everyone! 👏👏👏
Thank you for saving him. ❤
Wow, that net was so embedded in that poor seals neck, but with your help, he now has a second chance at life! Another two sea puppies live another day thanks to you!👍💕🙏🏻
Puppy was so brave and calm during such a difficult surgery! So good to see him charging straight back to the sea! Well done team!
Hi all.
Wow, what a complicated entanglement Dylan has got. Of course, all the rescuers had to fix the seal well, but the work of pulling out the loops of the net was very painstaking and dangerous (sharp teeth are very close), but the guys did an excellent job. As a result, two seals happily run off to the ocean! Thank you!

Excellent teamwork. Dylan was all over it like a pro.
🙂👍
After reading the title of this video I didn’t think I could watch but I forced myself so I NEVER forget and can pass the lesson along. Thank you OCN.
Dr. Dylan, you've got the family gift for dealing with the entanglements to help the animals. Well done!
I thank you for your heart of service. God bless your heart and hands.
I discovered your channel through Itchy Boots and just have to say that what you guys do is incredible, you deserve to be honoured for your services to marine life. Well done lads and keep up the good work!
Same here. Noraly put on a good channel. Waiting for her to get back in the saddle.

He looked like he was waiting for your rescue team ❤👍
Another great day of saving seals! Thanks to all the OCN "doctors"! Dylan, it's good to see that you have lots of patience in doing your job!❤
Animals are very smart.... just like they know where to find food....
they know where to find help!!!😊❤❤❤❤❤🙏
Poor little one handled this very well, all the while must have been in agony from this needless mess! Thankfully the whole team knew what to do, and the little one should recover well and hopefully live a long healthy life! 🙏
You all do great work for God's innocent and helpless creatures.
Our efforts are just a drop in the bucket compared to the millions of tonnes of trash entering the world's oceans every year.
We are unfortunately not solving the problem, but only treating the symptoms of the plastic crisis with our rescues. These videos aim to show the consequences of this pollution and create a change to tackle its roots - namely our addiction to single-use plastics, the lack of law enforcement at sea, and the shortcomings of the recycling industry.
Thank you for caring for those helpless animals
👍
Ten ból😨😰😟Dziękujemy bardzo !!!
Ребята,вы лучшие! Вы не только спасаете животных,но и показываете всему миру, что жизнь этих прекрасных животных зависит от человека
Hylje parka. Pelastajan äänestä kuulee, miten tuskallista on irroittaa näitä kahleita. Kunnia sankareille OCN❤️🙏
Thank you Dylan, Tony and Naude for working so carefully to remove all of the netting from the wound. Thank you to the entire OCN Team for every entanglement you remove to save the life of all of the seals.
That had to have been so painful for him. Thank you all. ❤ OCN
GOD BLESS AND PROTECT TEAM OCN. Thank you for your dedication to rescuing these creatures.
I wonder what is going through the pups mind surounded by humans, he/she must have been so frightened, glad both seals were rescued from the rubbish and can have a good chance to stay healthy. Thankyou OCN. 🤗💝🏴
That was horrible! Glad you were able to help the pup! 🦭🙏❤️🇺🇲🇳🇦
OMG, that poor seal. Thank you everyone for your caring heart and help these seals out. You’re all a godsend.
Thank you so much for saving the angel. I pray for All of them to recover. Hugs and Kisses to all. 😘😘😘😘😘🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
Dylan is getting really good at the job. His calmness and smaller hands seem to keep the pup calm. What a terrible entanglement with many knots to cut! Thank you all for being patient and thorough.
Longer surgery videos like this make me think about how carelessly this net was discarded, how quickly it entangled the seal, and then the tense 6+ minutes of work by 4 people to remove it. Thank you and kudos to your calm patient
I love that the next generation has your passion and desire to help and fight for a change.
What a horrible wound, and what expert field surgery by the team. Thanks OCN!
That last poor seal must have thought his time was up before you caught him, and was probably certain of it when you did. The pain before and during the rescue must have been awful. Then he went on his way wondering what happened, but likely feeling a little better already.
Thank you all for your skill in saving him. I know you wish it wasn't necessary to develop those skills - I do too - but I give thanks that you have, and that they are increasing all the time. I have said this before, but without you the seals (and others) have no one. Thank you all for both rescues, and well done Dylan for tackling such a tricky one❤🦭❤🦭❤
I am impressed that no matter how long and hard it takes to work with a seal, they still inspect it very carefully so that nothing remains under the skin.❣
G@@olgapyatSo true. This last one was so upsetting - for the seal, for OCN and for everyone watching.
So remarkable the pup stayed so still for the surgery! Dylan part of the OCN team now for sure! ❤❤❤
Hard to watch an animal in pain, thank you all for your amazing rescue work. That seal must be feeling so much better.
Poor seal with red net 😰. Also a puppy with a plastic bag. Thank you Dylan & Team, you made a complicated rescue ❤❤❤❤👏👏🦭💕🦭🌷🌷.
What experts you guys have become. You’re so inspiring!
Man’s intervention to man’s invention!
Thank God!
Thank you team!
Despite how many hands were holding him down and working on him, the seal was super chill. Nice work everyone.
Oh, wow. That had
to be THE worst beach surgery! I could barely watch. SO great to see Dylan work so diligently and effectively. He has the same passion as his dad, love it! That baby seal surely knew they were there to help not to cause harm. But again, I'm convinced it's Tony that had that calming affect on the seal! 😂 As always, thanks OCN!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Dylan is perfect for this type of rescue he has the sharpest youngest eyesight. It’s so difficult to see these fine threads of plastic. Thanks to OCN once again. You are my heroes.
Seeing the seal actually flinch when the line was pulled would be enough to unnerve most people but then you had to look for the hiiden line under the skin too. It had to be done to prevent infection and you were amazing. Thank you for not giving up and making sure the pup had every chance to recover.
Amazing. As soon as he realized you weren’t trying to hurt him he calmed right down and let you guys get to work. Great job guys. Dylan’s proving to be very calm and expert at working with these injuries and entanglements.
That was really horrible for that sweet pup. Dylan and your entire crew did a wonderful job extracting that complicated entanglement! Such a joy to see him RUN to freedom ⭐❤😊
you guys should keep a veterinary surgeon on speed dial
The presence of a veterinarian in our team would drastically increase the duration of the rescue process and therefore intensify the stress of the animals we capture. The number of rescues per patrol would also be greatly reduced.
Vets generally need to take a severely injured animal to a rehabilitation center, and such facilities do not exist in our country.
We see healthy recaptures daily, proving that seawater acts as a very efficient wound cleaner and that Cape fur seals are extremely resilient animals.
@@OceanConservationNamibia Thanks for your response.

That was so hard to watch, I cannot imagine the pain the pup was in.Thank you guys, Tony for his reassuring rub on the seals head to let him know you were helping him.Dylan well done and also I noticed you holding the line with one hand while cutting with the other to take the tension off the line. Naude with his crochet hook a great addition and all together you saved another pup.Huge thank you ❤
