Great video. By the way the vocal thing you looked for is called kulning. It is was yoused to cal in cows. In the nothen part of Sweden did they use to lett the cows grace the forests freely during summer time to eat and they (usually women who watched over them) used used the kulning to call on the Cattle. for more info se the Wikipedia article en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kulning
Completing this game in one sitting back in the day and proceeding to ugly cry for a solid 15-20 minutes afterwards was an experience I'll never forget. Always happy to see more coverage.
Thanks for sharing this game with us all. Didn't expect you to cover it after all those arcade games. Especially right after CarnEvil. This game was always a unique little oddity I wanted to check out. But never will due to it's story being a little too similar to my life.
This is a great video, I’ve had this game in mind for a while and I find the moment at the end with the younger brother swimming for the first time to be a touching moment. To me it shows that not only is the Younger brother overcoming his fear, but that he keeps the memory of his brother alive by finishing this journey. He didn’t let his sacrifice be for nothing.
I remember I will come back on my day off. This is looking like a really good review. Your review of northern journey is still by far my favorite along with Carneval that’s where we go for fun.
A fantastic game. Right up my street. Was part of that wave of minimalist art house-y videogames of the early 2010’s that seemed to be spawned by the success of Journey, and all continued the kind of vibe established by the likes of Ico. Very emotional, very engaging.
the healer after the young brother comes back "where you say you left my magic waterproof map?" side note: i always thought the owlcat on the tree was just another owlcat cause ded seems rather permanent in the world of the story
Always the insightful and well lettered reviews! Critics that let the art speak when it needs to are a dime a dozen in an age where arbiters love nothing more than to hear themselves drone.
I admit, the first time I completed the game it didn't resonate with me well. Maybe because I was a bitter young adult. I may have to give it a second playthrough just to experience it again because watching this makes me feel like I played it with my eyes closed. Wonderful review as always Bexx.
This is just interpretation, but I think that the owl-griffin who helps the younger brother back is actually the mate of the captured one who dies... Which is (1) the nest is empty and (2) she empathises with the pain of the younger brother ,she too lost someone dear to her
One of these days I'll buy the switch port of Brothers. That being said with the remake I imagine that it's probably going to be an Oddworld: Soulstorm situation. With the devs having a curtain vision in mind, but due to time constraints and console limitations they had to leave some stuff out and scale down. So there might be some cut content added in.
I love when games make full use of the medium to tell a story. The controls were certainly challenging, but I think they help make the elder brother’s death all the more meaningful. A core part of the game’s experience was lost when he died, both emotionally and physically. I hope the remake retains what made the original so unique in the first place. Also, the noises that played during the spider woman’s transformation were seriously unsettling and I loved them.
So I tried the Xbox demo over and over again and gradually got used to the controls. But it cuts off at the end of chapter one. I never had the money to buy it. Now seeing this… it makes me want to get again. Problem is that college is a money vacuum, so this will do for now. Your videos are always a treat to watch!
What I gathered from the story is that if everyone had tried 10% harder, none of this would have happened. Still trying to figure out how the younger brother struggles so. he clearly doesn't lack upper body strength.
Stories about family and the bonds between them always gets me crying, but it brought a smile to my face hearing another person mention Beautiful Darkness. Europeans have a knack for making fairy tales feel bleak
It was a very memorable experience. But not a very good game. It's one of those where you would get everything from a let's play. I got more teary-eyed watching this beautifully made video than when I played it myself lol. I specifically remember not caring about the more dramatic moments because I spent so much time being frustrated by the controls. Some reviewers overrated the hell out of it back in the day. Totalbiscuit in particular had it as his favourite game of all time. Curse of the reviewer. After a while, games become so repetitive that anything truly different is like water to a dehydrated person. You can get it for very cheap & not everyone is as weird with controls as me. So it is worth a try. But personally, I think it would have been better served as an animated short.
Highly disagree. There's a huge feeling of emptiness when one half of your controller is missing, only to be used in the right moments. The gameplay is part of the storytelling
Even though this game was a single player game I feel that it would have greatly benefited from having a multi player feature for the story it would have made it a bit easier to control I'm sure
I remember Pewdiepie did a let's play of this game. An unusual emotional choice like when he played To The Moon. Though given the ending it might've been better people didn't play further. It's a good ending to give up here.
Ya know, I had this game for a million years, and I played about halfway through, never finished it, and now that I see the ending.... ehh, I kinda don't feel like I'm missing that much. Not to spoil, but I just.... I'm not into it, and that's all I'll say about that.
Great video.

That's it! Thank you! I keep hearing this singing in Scandinavian-themed media and have been wondering about it ever since!

Such a well done video. Great humor, killer editing, exceptional narration and insight. Thanks for the hard work!
Hype!
Hype!
This was my favorite arcade game from the xbox360, thank you for playing it! I'm left handed
what an amazing video, found your channel looking for stuff on CarnEvil and got stuck thanks to the genuine reviews, love your narrative skills
Ive just found your channel and i love it so much, cant wait to see the rest 😊

It's great to see this game get some more love!

Awesome! I never played this game, so I'll be looking forward to this! =]
Ah, damn. This...got me. I absolutely have a soft spot for close brotherly relationships and twins. and. Jesus. I cried, watching this.

We'll see. I still suspect the remake will be a scene-for-scene recreation though, going from the trailers.
I remember in an old video you said you might do book reviews. Id love to see you do a review of some of those dinosaur science picture books for kids

I played this game as a kid. Its good but to hell with that hang glider bit man.
The controls remind me of The Adventures of Cookie and Cream.
Dream symbolism is an instrument, it deserves to be used. The key is making it as surreal and disjointed as one.
It was a very memorable experience. But not a very good game.

it gives me vibes of Bramble: the Mountain King

clearly the players that hated it didn't play fireboy&watergirl
It looks interesting
It is interesting... I think...
Please do Deadstorm Pirates. It was a great part of my childhood
Yup still hate the ending of the game. Nice video though
Cool

Not being able to handle the controls sounds like a major skill issue ngl
