I got this error immediately after printing a receipt for new ink of all things. And it's not like I was getting low on ink, at least not according to the display. The lowest one was yellow at about half full. So now I have to wait a few days to print anything. Think I had this same error a few years ago.
Thank you SO MUCH! I was thinking I would have to trash the printer until I found your video! Took them out and replaced them and IT WORKED! Back in Business!!
Thanks a lot, Jeff. I faced that B504 on my neighbor's MB5350 after they used non-Canon generic cartridges. No way to eject the cartridges by any soft way. Your video helped: big fingers on the clicky things ;-).
Just keep this in mind. Don't blame the generic cartridges for the error message as it can also happen with OEM ink as well. I have work arounds for anything that happens with my printer and save tons of money still buying compatibles.
Hey Jeff. Thank you so much for your help with this video. I managed to replace all the cartridges that were faulty but now I'm faced with the issue of the print head not aligning to do any print work. When I start a print job the head moves itself far right and frantically moves slightly left and right to return back to the right hand side and then brings an error 5C01. I live in remote areas of South Africa and to get to the nearest place for repairs is quite an issue. What should I do to get the head back in alignment? I'm prepared to take it apart myself and perform the necessary repairs as I have the tools. Please assist.
Jeff here: The error 5C01 is a general service error. To try to resolve this error, please reset the unit, check for paper jams and make sure that the inks are installed properly. You may also clean the printer's encoder strip as a last resort. The encoder strip is the clear mylar strip about 5mm in width that goes from left to right behind the printhead.
Thanks Jeff . I replaced all cartridges manually and it worked now after restart power.
Hello from Germany and thank you very much, Jeff! Worked!
Good to know!
You are a gentleman and a scholar, thank you for saving me from an actual mental collapse today
You neglected to tell us how to remove that shield.
No, I said you don't have to.
