you were really well spoken in the video introduction, that speech on the health of the balance of decks was great, in lor were we have access to a lot of cards, including counter-meta, there is no excuse for blaming the meta on one card
The problem with “counter meta” cards in a card game that doesn’t have side deck or any form of preparing for specific matchups, makes that card useless in any other matchup. That’s why aftershock is probably one of the few versatile cards in that aspect, you can destroy a landmark or deal damage, that way if your opponent doesn’t play a landmark, you don’t have a dead draw. The fact that games are a best of 1 doesn’t help either.

@MegaMogwai Really fun deck! at 71% WR with it after 21 games in Gold. Not sure how I feel about the Ravenous Butchers, though, they feel like a dead card quite often. I'm not sure what to slot in instead -I am thinking either some protection (sharpsight, riposte) or interaction (black spear?)
Personally, I think the problem with Landmarks is their too polarizing, not that they're too strong. The landmarks like Hexcore Foundry, Star Spring, or Slaughterdocks don't make or break the deck if you don't find them (Well, the Meta Star Spring deck requires it, but you can put it in for value that just so happens to trigger a win con), but stuff like Grand Plaza wins games on if you drop it on curve or not. The problem arises when the landmarks are supposed to slot into one particular deck (Scargrounds) which makes or breaks the deck on if it's drawn or not. Grand Plaza should be fine if it had it's mana cost nerfed since then you wouldn't be able to slot it into any aggressive deck and it's a good midrange tool for picking off aggressive units.
Scargrounds doesn't even affect the deck as much as Grand Plaza, especially since you have a 4 mana unit that gives the power buff on surviving as a "back up copy". The entire reason the Grand Plaza/Targon's Peaks decks flop without their landmarks is because their decks don't have any focus or synergy outside of their landmark. I think it's balanced just fine, especially considering we're going to be getting more and better landmark removal eventually.

Hey Mogwai, I really like watching your videos. You have such a good knowledge of combining cards for combos. Can you build an Elite Deck with the Grand Plaza? :)
Idea for helping the land mark removal issue: Landmarks can't be attacked by followers, but they can be attacked by Champions. If a Landmark is successfully attacked by a Champion then the attacking Champion captures, obviously releasing it once they leave the field.
What if landmarks were all given vulnerable and a "durability" stat kinda like powder kegs? Would make them less powerful but it would probably bode for better design
The good thing is we can be very sure that riot IS going to handle the problematic cards sooner or later and that is something we lor fans should appreciate. 15:46 somethimes Rito gaems purposely releases stuff in an OP state to create noise around that content because the balanced version of the content might not create enough noise, according to a Riot dev post
Honestly I feel Trundle's ice pillar does landmarks better then everything else it has an effect when played does something every turn and dosen't need dedicated cards to remove it. Dont know why they didn't continue with that design
Yeah, the design of landmarks is really weird, you either have the cards to destroy them in your deck and draw them, or you dont, in which case, there is no interaction between you and enemy landmark. Would've been nice if those landmarks had like vulnerable and a different health system based on number of strikes received rather than health points. So you can slowly break at them even without hard removal. And then you can have a keyword "siege" that deals double strikes to landmarks. And perhaps even units that can restore a bit of the breakage dealt to landmarks.
It's important for a game to be fun, more so than for the game to be balanced. Riot has struggled with this balance all throughout League's history, and LoR and TFT. As long as they continue to update the game within a timely manner to make sure that the cards that are strong now are eventually addressed and tweaked, as well as weak cards buffed/changed, then that's all I can really hope for. You really just have to make your own fun until then. If that means using the cards that are strong right now, then that's what'll have to be. If the card is like Targon's Peak which does nothing when you play it, is heavily influenced by rng, and is not really fun to use/have it used against you, then it should be removed or changed entirely.
you don't like the grand plaza because it is very strong and toxic to the game, but the landmark idea is really good, I would say it is the second best landmark in the game, behind only the cure landmark from targon
Why? All the other are barely usable. Grand Plaza is my favorite card to come out of Runeterra so far. The interaction is has with Scouts, Ephemerals, and Rally units vastly improves the viability many other cards. All they have to do is tweak the numbers and it will be fine. They need to buff Helia to 4 mana, too. Howling Abyss is probably my second favorite landmark since it can lead to some really nutty combos.
Can someone explain why at 11:32 he glimpses a different follower than was going to die from single combat. New player and that doesn't make sense to me.
What about the idea of a Shivana/Katarina deck with Grand Plaza? I've been thinking about it a lot, but haven't tried to build one yet. In theory, it has several synergy points, all 3 main cards should work well together.
An idea for landmarks that I haven't before, is to add a way to deactivate landmarks that improve your game strategy (like, grand plaza, starspring, scargrounds etc, ) for a single effect or for a round. This would change the playstyle of matches since the way you could win is by deactivating them and temporarily disrupting their play pattern. For example, scargrounds could have an effect that says " if the enemy kills an ally the round it was summoned deactivate me next round." (FYI: this specific example is more of a proof of concept rather than the specific change that I would like to see.) Also if they add this feature then the cost of the landmark would also need to decrease or allow them to use spell mana. Also, it could be a better idea than rather than deactivate them to destroy them, but this might be not fun for the landmark player. Overall I think that it would make them more balanceable, since they would be less binary.
@@jamesbrice3267 No.. What I find hard is: 1. The deck lacks good removal, even with the new 6cost follower, wich is a beast! 2. I use 3 bastions, but even then, is hard to avoid removal on riven. 3. With riven on 3, taric on 4.. your best chance of killing someone is 5 turn foward.. but its not easy to one shot, usually I need two hits. 4. I always hear how landmarks are bad and don’t work, coming from shadowverse I know how powerful and fun landmarks can be (also how f-ing annoying they can get if badly designed as targons peak)
I think LoR design team has the same approach as the LoL design team, they release cards overpowered to see how people react, have people play the new cards and then nerf it. The LoR design team as alraedy confirmed they take this approach. So i would not be surprised they are taking the same approach here.
Every region has a landmark now but not all regions have landmark removal and the ones that do have it cost a lot expect for pitlover. I think grand plaza need that challenge removed and give it 2-1 instead
Honestly I dont think landmarks would be as much of an issue if every region had reliable removal. You shouldn't just straight up lose to star spring because you're using a Demacia and Bilgewater deck and your only removal option is an eight cost slow spell.

I love the "nein" also lol
I’ve been spamming the f5 button for like an hour lol
I wonder if its decent nerf to giv the staats and challnger to the first unit summon per turn . if that to happen these this deck will not be as good.
Just get rid of the buff and we are good to go
Personally, I think the problem with Landmarks is their too polarizing, not that they're too strong.
I think it's balanced just fine, especially considering we're going to be getting more and better landmark removal eventually.
did y’all forget about the card “Encroaching Shadows”? cus i did *LOL*
The same about Passage unearned 😉
shadow isle home of garbage
@@kruk_7279 Passage Unearned can be amazing against Feel the Rush tho
@@kurokenshin2507 their cards revolve around death way too much, I hope they could add some more flavor to it.
@@kazunori3934 i mean thats what shadow isle theme is all about tho, wandering souls of the dead and fearful and stuffs, duplication is also there already.
the card types need to make sense for shadow isle, else it wont be shadow isle at all.
as for the new keywords, i do have some ideas for example "demon", "ghost", "shadow", etc...
Hey Mogwai, I really like watching your videos. You have such a good knowledge of combining cards for combos. Can you build an Elite Deck with the Grand Plaza? :)
Idea for helping the land mark removal issue:
Landmarks can't be attacked by followers, but they can be attacked by Champions. If a Landmark is successfully attacked by a Champion then the attacking Champion captures, obviously releasing it once they leave the field.
What if landmarks were all given vulnerable and a "durability" stat kinda like powder kegs? Would make them less powerful but it would probably bode for better design
do you plan to make a deck with Trevor Snoozebottom?
Hey Mogwai I’m a huge noob so it’s probably bad but I have been trying to make a riven/vi deck work. Would love to see your attempt!
The good thing is we can be very sure that riot IS going to handle the problematic cards sooner or later and that is something we lor fans should appreciate. That has definitely not been the case in some other instances in other card games ive played before. Riot is definitely keen on keeping the game balanced and enjoyable
Mogwai most used Champions:

any chance the undying + grandplaza? revive get the buff right?
Buen video!! Cuando subiras algo en español?
And I thought "why on earth is everyone against me playing lucian grand plaza shadow isles? Maybe mogwai has uploaded a video" and my oh my I wasnt wrong
It’s a great deck, even several ways to build it/tech and still be successful. Tons of fun to play
I think Mog need some videos, where he can just rumble, discuss state of the game, meta, ideas etc. It would be great to watch.
We know u like granplaza, thats why u play with it alot.
If u dislike it, it'd be just like lee sin/pale/go hard/Targon Peak :)
I never play Lucian decks. But shouldn't Senna be an auto include with him?
Maybe not in a deck like this where so many cards die already? I Dont know, it just seemed odd to not have her when Lucian is in.
Also we don't know how powerful can be this land marks , now people are complaining about this one but what if later in the line you get ones with champion synergy , that gives I can't die or take dmg this round and things like that
Nice! I was trying to build a Pesky Specter deck today, but I'm trying without Grand Plaza
15:46 somethimes Rito gaems purposely releases stuff in an OP state to create noise around that content because the balanced version of the content might not create enough noise, according to a Riot dev post
Idk how well it would work, but maybe give landmarks health and vulnerable? I guess itd be hard to tell how much health is fair for both players tho
What do ya think of dragons grandplaza?
Honestly I feel Trundle's ice pillar does landmarks better then everything else it has an effect when played does something every turn and dosen't need dedicated cards to remove it. Dont know why they didn't continue with that design
23:00 im pretty sure they are aware how strong some of these releases are.
i get that powercards should exist but not on such ridiculous powerlevels
Yeah, the design of landmarks is really weird, you either have the cards to destroy them in your deck and draw them, or you dont, in which case, there is no interaction between you and enemy landmark.
Would've been nice if those landmarks had like vulnerable and a different health system based on number of strikes received rather than health points. So you can slowly break at them even without hard removal. And then you can have a keyword "siege" that deals double strikes to landmarks. And perhaps even units that can restore a bit of the breakage dealt to landmarks.
How to get epic type card easily? For all three weekly vault opened juz manage to get 1...
I'm so early i can't even think of something funny or intersting to share
help xD
Yahallo senpai , ohayo!
my proplem with grand plaza 2 mana 3 2/2 chalenger or 3 mana 3/3 2 challenger

Hey Mogwai, there's an incoming LoL/LoR turn based RPG game early next year. Would you consider playing it when it comes out?
Outside of Targon’s Peak and Grand Plaza, I really like the other landmarks
you don't like the grand plaza because it is very strong and toxic to the game, but the landmark idea is really good, I would say it is the second best landmark in the game, behind only the cure landmark from targon
But why is the LastBreath on Pesky Specters written like that??
At 16:42 you could kill the ephemeral unit instead of killing vanguard redeemer next turn :3
then the butcher doesn't get challenger and +1/+1
Can someone explain why at 11:32 he glimpses a different follower than was going to die from single combat. New player and that doesn't make sense to me.
Because it would have no difference, both are ephemeral
@@2011October14 yeah but it would have killed the goat right?
@@jquickri the goat dies from single combat, so it's the same
@@2011October14 ahh thank you that Makes sense. I forgot single combat damages both characters.
What about the idea of a Shivana/Katarina deck with Grand Plaza? I've been thinking about it a lot, but haven't tried to build one yet. In theory, it has several synergy points, all 3 main cards should work well together.
Ignore Shyv, use Quinn instead.
@@tonysmith9905 I don't have Quinn (
And I really like Shivana.
This deck's missing some Snapvines
I am trying a taric/riven deck.. but it feels like garbage.. anyone has managed to make it work?
Are you using the card that makes buffs permanent along with survival skills?
@@jamesbrice3267 No.. What I find hard is:
4. This means that I got outpassed by other agro, that is why I am playing a set of the elusive-lifesteal. If you find it, things turn.
The best thing here is that Taric level ups very easily.
Great video as always!
Hey Mog, can you try Snapvine and Evershade Stalker?, it could be a really cool deck.
Landmarks make me concerned to think that the dev team has tested mulligans where you have one gaurenteed card in hand
I hated lee sin as much as the next guy but id like for some true OTK concepts in this game to be added. Right now the only one I can think of is Fiora + Judgement.
