1972 SPECIAL REPORT: "JESUS FREAKS"

  • Опубліковано 11 сер 2021
  • Jesus freak is a term arising from the late 1960s and early 1970s counterculture and is frequently used as a pejorative for those involved in the Jesus movement. As Tom Wolfe illustrates in The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, the term "freak" with a preceding qualifier was a strictly neutral term and described any counterculture member with a specific interest in a given subject; hence "acid freak" and "Jesus freak".
The term "freak" was in common-enough currency that Hunter S. Thompson's failed bid for sheriff of Pitkin County, Colorado, was as a member of the "Freak Power" party. However, many later members of the movement, those misunderstanding the countercultural roots believed the term to be negative, and co-opted and embraced the term, and its usage broadened to describe a Christian subculture throughout the hippie and back-to-the-land movements that focused on universal love and pacifism, and relished the radical nature of Jesus's message.
Jesus freaks often carried and distributed copies of the Good News for Modern Man, a 1966 translation of the New Testament written in modern English. In Australia, and other countries, the term Jesus freak, along with Bible basher, is still used in a derogatory manner. In Germany, there is a Christian youth culture, also called Jesus Freaks International, that claims to have its roots in the U.S. movement.

I was a "preteen" when this news clip came out. I've seen some like it and always that someone like them made the "I AM" poster I had for several years at that time.
The "I AM" poster has all the names and prophecies of Jesus on one poster. I used to read it. And being a kid I hear about the "Jesus freaks." I thought it was cool. I knew of Jesus Christ but by the time I was 17 is when I truly believed in Jesus and recognized my need for a saviour. And me being drawn to Christ by the Holy Spirit was from the influence of the Jesus Movement although this was in 1981.
The morning after I called out to the Lord I met a young married couple and they invited me to a home Bible study and later to a church. Today the closer I grow in Christ I'm amazed he saved me and don't take it for granted.

Isaiah 53 was the proof Jesus gave me for himself when I called out to the God of the Universe, whoever he was. God told me to open a Bible and my jaw dropped as I realized what I was reading about… Jesus’ crucifixion, but in the wrong part of the Bible, it was the Old Testament, not the New Testament. Isaiah was written in 740 B.C. ….800 years before his historical life.
Judaism reads the Old Testament (Torah) but reject Jesus to this day. Judiasm predates Christianity by 2000 years. Isaiah 53 is in the Torah. If their own writings from their prophets foretold Jesus’ life in advance, and yet the Jews reject Jesus, it is proof that Christianity (New Testament) did not write the 350 prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament, but a religion predating Christianity - Judaism - did.
Daniel 9 predicted 700 years in advance-down to the day- when Jesus’ crucifixion would be.
Jesus opened up my eyes to see that Psalms were Jesus’ thoughts on the cross and in hell, when he took our punishment for our sins. “They pierced my hands and my feet.” Psalms 22. (Written in 1044 B.C.)
He told me a few months ago while I was folding laundry “I did everything it took for you to be with me forever, you do everything it takes for you to be with me.” I had been struggling with sin that day, but Jesus was encouraging me by showing me the depths of his love for me personally. I would never allow myself to get crucified for anyone, except my own son, and even that would be an extremely hard choice when it came down to it. Jesus showed me he was thinking about each one of us, his own children that he formed in the womb, when he let them drive the 7 inch Roman spikes in his hands and feet that day. Only the extreme love of a father would do that for their son or daughter. Even if our own mother and father forget us, he says “I will never forget you.” “I am a Father to the fatherless.” Psalms 68
In 1948, only 28 Jews believed in Jesus. Today, over 500,000 Jews have come to Jesus through this one incredible chapter, Isaiah 53. This is the chapter he also used to open up my eyes in 2021, after I had just been feeling contempt for him, after the God I had called out to started pushing me towards Jesus. After reading it, I was so ashamed I felt contempt for him without cause. “They hated me without reason.” Psalms 38
Colossians 1 says Jesus is the image of the invisible God. Through him all things were made.
The Master of the earth entered into his own storybook and became the Servant of the world. He knew in advance what he would do, because he was God, the Maker of heaven and earth. -His own words “there is no greater love than to lay your life down for your friends.” He told in advance what would happen to himself before he walked among his creation from 4 B.C. to 33 A.D., dividing history with his life.
Through much research, I found out that Jesus was the most documented man in history, with 92 Roman, Jewish, Persian and Greek historians from his time writing about his life from a secular and hostile perspective, verifying his life and crucifixion under Pontius Pilate.
    Isaiah 53
The Suffering and Glory of the Servant
“See, my servant will act wisely; he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted. Just as there were many who were appalled at him-his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness- so he will sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him….He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.
    Like one from whom people hide their faces, he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living;
for the transgression of my people he was punished. He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by knowledge of him my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”

It would be so interesting to know how these young people's lives turned out. They'd be older than I am now. Many have probably gone on to be with The Lord. That's what I'm hoping. Narrow is the way and few find it. That's what was taught to me as I listened to a teacher of The Gospel yesterday. It certainly got my attention. I pray that I will one day see My Jesus and I will be worthy to spend eternity in Heaven with Him. The only Worthy in me is through Christ Jesus My Lord and Savior. Bless The Lord!!!❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Since Calvary Chapel exploded all over the world, and many off shoots, I would say most of them are still around, and more.

When you realize there is a God who loves you enough to lay his life down for you, that is when it will be very difficult not to love Him back. Its all about love and forgiveness. If you don't think you need forgiveness, if you don't believe you've sinned, if you don't believe you have a soul, if you don't believe there is an afterlife, then you won't be interested in anything Christ did for you on His cross.

@@prayerpatroller Agreed. Thanks for the rundown, but those are just claims in the end. I don't believe you... or any other fellow primate who makes religious claims. Long ago, I remember trying to believe, but the claims did not bear their burden of proof. I think beliefs like these boil down to wishful thinking and self delusion. I'm happy if people find strength in belief without evidence, but it's not for me. I wonder how you settle on this set of beliefs instead of another set? Cheers

@@29008000 I settled on it because it settled on me. I've always known God existed, just like I've always known I had a soul. I cannot remember a day when I wasn't convinced with all my mind of these. You say there is no evidence. To you, maybe, but not to me. I see information in nature, which, to me, implies intelligence in nature, I see design it, and I've never seen information come from non-information. All I've ever seen is information coming from pre-existing information. And I've heard too many near death experiences to believe that my interior sense that I have a soul is merely my imagination. Cheers back to you.

I guess i won't disagree. Cause Biden and the democrats are a group of Godless and self righteous people who think they're changing the world, which they are, but NOT for the better unfortunately. God bless you though I pray you find Jesus
