Chases best performance imo. Vacation #1 is my personal favorite film of his but as far as his acting goes FF was his best performance. He did wonderfully in it. Just as good as anything Steve Martin, Robin Williams or Bill Murray would have done in this era. He proved he could really act here.
"There are a lot of comedies that are machine made, the jokes come out and you're supposed to laugh because of the timing." That's pretty accurate to how comedies are made today! It's rare one comes out that you don't feel like you're watching a machine cueing people to laugh out of obligation.
This is like almost every modern animated movie I watch with my kids. They force laughs to excess, and it's usually the same joke or situation you saw in the last animated movie.
So glad they loved Funny Farm. My dad took me to see it opening weekend. Even at 11 years old, I laughed and smiled the whole time. Such a beautiful film to watch on all levels. Definitely the best movie in the episode, and one of my favorite small comedies.
@@sha11235 Yeah, I was surprised that they gave it two 👍. It left me cold and disinterested. _Fletch, Spies Like Us_ ("You had a tent?") and _Vacation_ were better.
7:14: It's kind of jarring to see Kurtwood Smith show up in Rambo III as a good guy and John Rambo's ally less than a year after RoboCop. I mean Clarence Boddicker, has to be up there as one of the scariest movie villains in cinematic history.
It’s interesting to see them praise the first Crocodile Dundee movie because they initially gave that one two thumbs down too. A couple of months after it opened and became a box office hit they revisited it and seemed to change their minds.
@@MattSingh1 no they weren’t, now do you have something interesting or informative to say or are you just going to copy and paste the same thing over and over like a pathetic nit?
Crocodile Dundee II is a great sequel. Yes, it is not as good as the first one by any means but it is still an extremely entertaining picture. Siskel and Ebert got this review very wrong. It went on to be another huge hit anyway so thankfully their opinion didn't hurt it.
They didn't care for the first one, and had to go back some time later to figure out why it resonated with audiences who kept seeing it week after week. That was back in the day that a movie might actually gain audience and screens as more people find out about it.

It was and still is nothing more than a decent comedy. No big laughs from me. Christmas vacation one year later with Chase made me laugh though. Siskel and Ebert didn´t like that one i think. That one is a classic now.
The first sort of worked with him acting like a thirteen-year-old (when the boy was really 15), but _Shazam 2_ was a bomb, partly because he was still playing 13 when his alter-ego was now 17, and it doesn't work. Also, the villains won, but then threw away their victory. Stupid.
I'm glad they mentioned the Judge Reinhold film where he became a child in a man's body. He was infinitely better than Hanks was in Big, a film that I have never cared for.
I like Big and Vice Versa. One thing I like about Big which they didn't mention was the performance of Jared Rushton. He really killed it as Josh's friend Billy. Vice Versa is good because of the overarching story about the kid and his father, but I liked Big because it had a lot of heart. It's about this kid-guy's relationship with everybody in his life: his mom, his friend, his new boss, his new girlfriend. It seems to be speaking to both kids and adults, saying there are good things about being both.
I love the movie and thought Chase gave a great performance. However I can understand why certain Chevy fans may not like it. He is a lot more low key in it and there is a lot less pratfalls then in his other movies. It was something different for him. I think it worked but if you’re a fan of Chevy’s aforementioned other humor I can see why it wouldn’t be your cup of tea.

The speech that colonel troutman says about Afghanistan - talk about context changing over time!
Great episode 🙂

Funny Farm is extremely underrated.
I still prefer Rambo ie Rambo 4.
I cant believe Gene trashed The Terminator and Aliens but praised Rambo III of all movies.

I also liked Elizabeth Perkins in _He Said, She Said,_ with Kevin Bacon and Sharon Stone. But they didn't.

It's probably because Chevy Chase had been in a ton of really stupid movies before this and they were in comedy fatigue.
