    Thanks for this demo. I've been using DXO PureRaw3 now for a couple days (generating DNG file), prior to final processing in Lightroom Classic, and have been impressed (upgraded from PureRaw2). I've been using it on some bird photos (Deep Prime XD, Lens softness = Standard). So far, I'm seeing little to no edge fringing with Raw3 that I would see in my bird images processed with Raw2, and would also see when trying Topaz Photo AI. When using Raw2 and Photo AI, with dark birds -- particularly those against a blue sky (i.e. areas of high contrast), I was getting a resulting thin light colored blue (almost white) edge fringe along where the bird's dark body/wings bordered the blue sky. This was happening just using noise reduction and NO sharpening (other than the sharpening which occurs solely with noise reduction), and zooming in by 400-800% is required to clearly see the edge fringe. It isn't green or purple chromatic aberration, and doesn't appear to be in the out of camera raw files, so I think it was an artifact created by Raw2 and Photo AI. The same kind of light edge fringe obtained from over sharpening. I'm not seeing that resulting edge fringe in Raw3 (but only 3 bird images processed thus far). I'm hoping that the edge fringe has been fixed and will continue to try out Raw3, but I'm really impressed thus far with the resulting image quality.

      I agree. Actually the fringing in the new version of photo ai seem a bit more pronounced using solely automated processing. On the other hand in a bird shot ISO 4000 the deep prime seemed to over sharpen feathers relative to photo AI. At first looks good, but in the end is bit artificial.

      @@petergordon4666try it with the lens softness setting on "soft" instead of standard. And make sure you don't have sharpening turned on in Lightroom on the resulting dng.

    Anthony, thank you for another thoughtful presentation. I just downloaded DXO PureRaw3 and put it against the Topaz products. I just upgraded photoAI to 1.2.7. Bottom line for this user working with Nikon uncompressed NEF is that Photo AI, Denoise + Sharpen, DXO are all remarkably close. There is somewhat better control using the sharpen + Denoise, but for most of my photos the improvement in Photo AI will be my go to FWIW, particularly as the workflow is a better with LR. Just one fool's opinion and I look forward to your comparison.

    Many thanks for this demo, Anthony - very helpful! Practically at the same time when DXO 3 came out, they made an upgrade from DXO 2 to version 2.6. This free upgrade for DXO Pure Raw 2 users includes now processing for Nikon Z9-High efficency / High efficency* images. Something Z9 Shooters were waiting since a long time.

    I think for that second image you should have tried their more aggressive sharpening. It definitely seemed to need more than standard.

    • @UltimaGaina
      @UltimaGaina Рік тому

      No. Sharpening should actually be switched off. More aggressive sharpening is adding a nasty countour around everything. Just zoom in at 100%.

  • @UltimaGaina

    I used DXO Pureraw 1, but the sharpening artifacts were bad, making it unusable.
    I'm happy to see that DXO listened to feedback, and now we have the option to switch off lens sharpening.
    This is how it should be used if you don't want to get that nasty sharpening countour around everything. Sett8ng it to soft is somehow acceptable, but anything beyond that is as bad as it was in DXO Pureraw 1 or worse.
    Now, It's working very well with DJI Mavic 2 pro, but I wish to see smartphones added to it, like S22 Ultra. And, why not, DJI Pocket 2, for which the raw files really need some AI help.

    Hi Anthony, great video as always. I've been using PureRAW 3 for some days now, and when compared to PureRAW 2 I've seen further improvement in noise reduction as well as greater detail output making the images more natural.
    My question to you is: How does PureRAW 3 compare to Topaz Denoise in terms of the final result.
    Thanks in advance.

    I am just unhappy about the fact that I bought Pureraw 2 about 6 weeks ago, at full price, and now I would have to pay pretty much full price again to get an upgrade. I will stick with what I have. Does what I want it to do.

    It is really hard to judge looking at a UA-cam video but it appeared to me that the results of the first image may have been comparable to Topaz Denoise AI but the second didn't appear as good as I would have expected based on all the hype about DXO PureRaw3. I would love to see a real comparison between the two applications or hear how you felt about the two products based on your limited use so far. I am pretty happy with the Topaz products and it would have to be significantly better to entice me to try it. Maybe at some point I'll download the trial and try it but I'm sure someone will eventually do that comparison and post the results.

  • @Tomservoca
    @Tomservoca Рік тому

    The optics download only happens if the DxO knows about the camera and lens combination. I shoot with an M9/Zeiss Biogon T* 35mm. So no luck. You can't even fake it out by saying you're using a Leica lens as the Zeiss isn't a coded lens.(Yes, I've tried editing the metadata but it doesn't seem to want to play nice)
    I don't use Noise Correction because I very seldom shoot in those conditions but the optics corrections really make a difference. In fact, I can use my Olympus ZX-1 and get excellent results.
    Also, DxO doesn't recognize DNG files from iPhone apps such as Raw+, Halide, and 645 Pro. (ios 16.2, iphone X) It calls it an unrecognized format.

    I have a Lightroom stand alone 6.14 which worked well util recently... I guess Adobe have scuppered it. They want a monthly fee. They can sod off! I resent their attitude. So I began looking at alternatives. Does Pure 3 involve any monthly fee? BTW nice review seems simple to use but not quite as extensive as Lightroom.

      PhotoLab is the full software, while PureRaw is a cut down version (just for demosaicing raw files), so no need for PureRaw if you use PhotoLab of the equivalent version

    From your tutorial, it sounds like it doesn't have the option to leave your raw file alone other than noise reduction? A program that removes noise, but leaves the raw file intact to import into LR would be ideal for my workload. Topaz converting to tiff doesn't work that great for my personal workflow.

    • @rdbimages
      @rdbimages Рік тому +2

      PureRAW is completely non-destructive. It does not touch your RAW file. The adjustments it makes are saved to a DNG (or JPG or TIFF.) Your choice.
