Thanks Dean, think this will be cool to have a look at re testing (it was looking too pricey before - the lower cost lightweight option - will be key to learn, thanks!)
Let me know how it goes!
nice to finally have a smaller scoped SKU for bastion for folks that don't need all of the feature set like auto scaling or IP based connection. one thing that should be allowed across the board on all 3 SKUs at this point is native client support. it blows the web based experience out of the water and makes workflows much more efficient (at least in my experience)
Thanks for the feedback ☺️
Love the Product Team depiction 😁
LOL yup...they all work in VR...exclusively...all the time 🤔😁
Cool Video, but I dont see any use case for this Bastion SKU, because the biggest show stopper is that it not supports the Connection to target VMs in peered virtual networks.
This would relate in more Bastion instances, which would eat the cost saving of the SKU.
Yes…unless the cost was low enough that building more Bastions still didn’t cost more.
For example…what if it was FREE…would that change your mind?
ALSO I think you need to remember that Bastion can be built in a minute on any vnet you want
Then deleted when you don’t need it anymore.
ALSO, ALSO the intention for this is Dev Test LAB environments…but you can use it anywhere you want.
I work as a consultant for SMEs and this is big news
Yes it is, which is why I wanted to share it with you!
Awesome
Thanks for sharing.
At least no more arguments with clients or CFO regarding cost.
Simple Sku, simple connection, simple hack.
Awesome!
@AzureAcademy
I guess caveats are
Only available in 5 regions
And you can only connect to machines in the same vnet as the bastion host.
But hey it's developer sku and deployment is relatively quick and easy
Yeah, but the region limits will go away soon, and the other things are keeping the cost down.
The way I use Bastion…I go to the VM and click connect…so as long as Bastion is already set up on my VNET it is seemless
@@AzureAcademy thanks
Appreciate your kind response
Anytime!
I've never used the VM audio out feature. Over here wondering how often that's useful.
Depends on what you need to do when accessing the VM remotely.
If it is just basic administration…maybe you won’t use that feature
Hey Dean, how does the pricing for Bastion Developer compare? The Bastion pricing page hasn't been updated yet.
It is still being finalized during the preview
But rumors I have heard are VERY low cost vs Basic which is already half the cost of standard
And there are other things in the works that will impact the cost as well…can’t share more so stay tuned!
@@AzureAcademy tried to deploy in East US 2, it is listed but I get an error that it isn't availabele in my region. Any special steps required?
Nothing that I know of…have you never deployed Baton at all you might need to register the resource provider in your subscription…but usually building something in the portal does that for you…but worth checking
So, what's actual cost for the Developer SKU?
I can't find any info about this online.
There is no pricing on Developer sku yet…but it will be less than all the other skus
@@AzureAcademy thanks for the reply. Interesting. Does that mean the developer sku is free at the current time?
Yes it is…for now
