I've heard it's based on the book and movie "Valley of the Dolls" - about Hollywood, stars, drugs, downfall, etc. - hence the last line - once a Valley Doll, now you're not at all.
You got the story of the song pretty much in a nutshell. Josh (singer) started out planning to go into filmmaking, and he’s been very into classic movies and such, so he wrote this about an aging star. I guess Obetrol was an older diet drug way back when (gotta keep that figure). They still play these older favorites mixed in with their newer stuff on tour, thankfully!
When they performed this live on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon seems to be when they really gained national attention: ua-cam.com/video/Sr1-jIyRB90/v-deo.html I remember having to pick my jaw up off the floor, lol.
How women were/are treated in Hollywood. I think that when Josh wails after "you could use a little work..." that he's screaming on behalf of the actress/es
Some people critical of Greta Van Fleet draw the parallel with LZ as you know. I LOVE GVF. And if you read their haters banging on about LZ wannabes - the more you listen if open minded the more you realise they are just influenced by 70s in general. Everyone has musical influences, Robert Plant spoke of the blues being his influence. I want you to get to the album Battle at Heaven's Gate, It is so damn great.
Just pure and nasty rock and roll, one of their best bangers.

Just a nasty, filthy, dirty f*cking riff. This is the song that had me sold on them. That solo blew my mind and I fell in completely devoted love.
Second favorite song on this album, it’s got a sort of mischievous spirit to it that I love. Always puts me in a good mood. 😄
Yup!! I like that… mischievous spirit! Well said. Thank you for your comment.

I haven’t heard a recent live of Curtain Falls in forever, it would be cool if it was part of their set for the tour for Starcatcher 😄
This is one of my very faves, a banging in your face rock out track❤

And got a standing ovation!
@@sandifulmor8327 You could tell Fallon was a bit surprised by that!
So happy you are enjoying this album. “Nasty” is a great adjective for this one. The next song is gritty too.
It's a banger of a song. It seems to be about the film industry in general, not a specific person.

When you do the full album run through you should watch the live version of when the curtain falls. Loved the reaction!
Very much a favorite. No clue who, if anyone in particular, was the subject of this song. I do know Josh is the lyricist in the band.

❤❤❤ Love them and I am areal Zep Head you are pretty much up there with Zep😊😊😊😊
Olbetrol is an old diet pill. It was featured in "The Valley of the Dolls" movie, starring Patty Duke!
The live version on the Jimmy Fallon Show is 100x better than the album. Jimmys reaction after “goodbye” tells it all
Edit - the tonight show - not SNL
You're really funny when you wanna be! lil!!! in a great way!
