Hit the clubs in NYC on Thursday night 1990, listen to lisa, then repeat on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, then back to work on Monday in a suit. Palladium. Nells. Late 80s early 90s.
I remember watching this episode when it aired,never seen an Apollo audience react so positively and excited before,but,Lisa ripped her performance. And I didn't know she could-SING-so good-LIVE-until this performance.Always LOVED this song and Lisa also. Always thought she was-PRETTY-and-SEXY. LOL.

Loved your reaction to this Empress!! This brings me back to when I used to watch that show waiting to see how the audience would react to the various performers and you can see how high their expectations were for this performance and Lisa did not disappoint!! Love to see all the hype and support she is getting and you can see how that is causing her to give them even more in her performance. Randomly, this reminds me of Mariah’s debut on that show singing Vision of Love. You can literally see how the audience support and love is making her more confident as she is performing that song. Makes me wish this show was still on the air! 😃

"All Around the World" became a very successful single, peaking at number-one in many countries. In Europe, it reached the top of the chart in Austria (for six weeks), Netherlands (four weeks), Norway (three weeks), United Kingdom (two weeks), Spain (two weeks) and Belgium (one week). It also peaked at number two in Italy and Germany, number three in Ireland and Switzerland, number four in Sweden, and number seven in Finland.
In the United States, "All Around the World" reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100, and also topped for two weeks the Hot Black Singles and Hot Dance Club Songs charts. Stansfield became the first white woman to top the now-Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart since Teena Marie scored in 1988 with "Ooo La La La."[18] On the Adult Contemporary Singles, the song peaked at number seven.
In Canada, "All Around the World" reached number three on the Top Singles Chart and Adult Contemporary Chart, and peaked at number one on the Dance/Urban Chart. "All Around the World" also reached number nine in Australia and number ten in New Zealand. The single was certified Platinum in the United States for selling over one million copies and Gold in the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Austria and Sweden.

A few yrs later, short-lived white girl group Good2Go got a similar reception when they were on Apollo to do their only hit “Never Satisfied”, a song that marching bands down south STILL play to this day. ✌🏽

It's was a excellent time for her. Since this song was her biggest hit worldwide and her only single to reaching the top 10 in US (reaching n.3). She have a successful career in Europe like in US and in the US, she produced six top 40 during her career and her succesful years (1989-1992). She produced nine top 10 in her native UK.
Also, i listen her debut album ''Affection'' (who this song was extract), i think you like this album, it's a mix of House, RnB, hip-hop, soul and dance and a incredible debut album. This song and ''When are you Coming Back'' was less dance oriented then the others songs, but was very good.
Will have to check out the rest of the songs!
i knew this song growing up. this and "change". so i knew who lisa stansfield was. but it wasn't until maybe a year ago that i heard her speaking voice... this girl is filled with surprises. she sounds like she's been around the world all right. on a pirate ship.
Lisa is huge, right up there with Madonna, you should hear her speaking voice, 🔊 your jaw will drop😊

I remember vividly watching this on Showtime at the Apollo when it aired. The energy coming from that room still gives me chills.
Knowing the Apollo is legendary for being the TOUGHEST crowd anywhere on Earth, I was amazed hearing them chant “Go Lisa, Go Lisa, Go Lisa”.
Lisa SANG soul how it’s supposed to be sung and earned all the flowers the Apollo threw at her that night! Pure magic!
Curious to know if Lisa has ever commented on this performance?
P.S. Found an article that mentions this performance and notes the song was so new to Lisa at the time, that she actually mixed up the second verse and chorus but recovered and brought it home like nothing was out of place. Legend!

- ....Lisa's performance aired, March 1990 (while the Song was still in the R&B Top Ten), and......she was *VIOLENTLY ILL!!* ...She caught a bug (coming in to NYC), and couldn't cancel.....She was worried SICK that she was gonna lose her Voice...but as we can see, she got a HERO'S WELCOME!
- ....and, during the "..Go Lisa.." part (3:46), She admitted she turned around because she was trying gain her composure from not fainting! ...She NOW is the 2nd most charted White R&B Soul Singer, EVER (Teena Marie is 1st, Justin Timberlake, 3rd) .... *GO* , Lisa........

They are also a very Funky/R&B/Jazz/Soul fusion (aka Acid Jazz) band from 'Across the pond'.
