    IMPORTANT UPDATE 5/4/2023 - Please see our followup video that reviews the risk of wearing out your straw lid! We made this followup video after reading some of your comments below.

      I have a 24 oz. hydroflask, how do I take apart the flex straw cap on this one? I tried and it's very hard to take apart..

      @@meeritos Hydro Flask has 24oz standard and wide mouth bottles. Which one do you have? The wide mouth would be the same flex straw cap as the one we had in this video, but yea, it takes a bit of effort to the spout off compared to the original straw lid. We haven't tested the standard mouth (aka narrow mouth) flex straw lid yet. I would expect it to be similar, but I'd guess it could be harder to get the spout off since it's probably more difficult to get enough leverage on the spout. Sorry I don't know for sure though. We plan to test the standard flex straw lid sometime soon!

      Definitely be careful with it, especially if you're using a Flex Straw! Those have a tighter fit, and we've had quite a few people say popping off the spout too many times makes it fit more loosely. I made a followup video about it that's linked in the description and I added a note in this video title to hopefully make sure you saw it. I still think it's a good idea to clean under the spout every once and awhile even though it risks wearing out the fit, otherwise it could get pretty dirty in some spots. So in some ways I'm thinking of straw lids like that as consumables that need to be replaced every so often as they get worn out (unfortunately).

    This saved me from throwing my lid out! Also a cocktail stirring spoon (real thin metal spoon) pops the plastic ring on the new lid off very well!

      Glad it helped, and thanks for letting us know what worked for you! In case you haven't seen it, we recommend checking out our more recent video too about cleaning the straw lids. Some other viewers said popping the spout off too many times made it fit more loosely (the plastic bumps that anchor the spout can flatten out some). It's hard to avoid since it's best to clean under the spout from time to time to get a really good deep clean, but that's why we think the newer lid is better. Removing the red silicone insert really helps clean more under the spout without having to pop it off.

    I’ve had the OG one for about 6 years now. I clean it every few months. It’s always nasty. I feel like the germs have strengthened my immune system. I think it needs a deep clean. It nasty. But still going after daily use for 6 years out on the field.

    • @bottlepro3252

      Yea, they definitely get nasty after frequent use. I bet you had some buildup, especially under the spout where that seal is.

    Thank you for this tutorial, I didn't know you can pop out the spout and was going to just toss my hydro flash if mold continued to grow in areas where I couldn't clean. Now I can feel less icky about drinking from my hydroflask!

      Glad it helped! Not sure if you watched the other video I referenced in the title, but just keep in mind that removing the spout can wear out the connections over time. It's kind of an unfortunate side effect of straw lid designs like Hydro Flask's (and most straw lids in general) that have spouts that rotate on that pivot point because there aren't other good ways to clean them 100%. Other straw lids designs like Owala's fixed straw are easier to clean fully and don't have that pivot point that can wear out.

    I use tweezers to get the O-ring out of water bottles. Also, this video has convinced me to get a hydro flask even though it is a pricy bottle. I found out my Contigo bottle had mold inside the lid and I cannot clean it properly bc you have to have a special screwdriver to unscrew it. It’s not advertised to unscrew it and clean it that way. So I had no idea. This seems like you can clean all the parts and not get sick from mold you didn’t know about. Ty for making this video!

    • @bottlepro3252
      @bottlepro3252  Рік тому +1

      We haven't tested a Contigo, but that's very weird to hear. I don't know why they would think it's a good idea to need special tooling to fully clean the lid. Hopefully you like your Hydro Flask! FYI, I recommend checking back with our channel later this week because we're making an update video to the straw cleaning one. We had a few people comment that some of the plastic connections wore out after popping the spout off multiple times, and this caused the spout to fit more loosely. That hasn't happened to us, but we want to share that information so people are aware that it's a risk.

    I have the OG spout. After tearing it apart and cleaning it and putting it back together the seal is no good and now I end up sucking more air than water.

    Where can i find replacements of the little o rings that go under the og straw

    • @bottlepro3252
      @bottlepro3252  Рік тому

      I'm not sure. Most of the replacement seals I've seen for bottles are the larger ones for where the lid screws on. Maybe reach out to Hydro flask customer support, but I wouldn't be surprised if you'd need to just buy a new lid.

      I'm not sure. Simple Modern is one of the biggest brands I haven't gotten to test personally yet, but it's on my list for hopefully later this year. Hopefully someone else can comment about those lids here since it'd be good to know!

  • @stellar783

    Well, I tried this method for my OG lid and one of the side bits on the spout broke off. No wonder I was met with some resistance trying to pop it off even though I did it exactly as in the video. It was a bit loose when I put it back and caused leaks, which never happened before, so I took it off again and I'm currently relying on super glue to salvage it. Is this a common a risk?
    Still grateful for the video, it desperately needed a deep clean, it was nasty under there. Just wondering if there is a safer method to do it next time.

    • @bottlepro3252
      @bottlepro3252  Рік тому

      Unfortunately it's the best way we're aware of to pop the spout off. We've reached out to Hydro Flask about it too, and they said both spouts are supposed to be able to be popped off. But both lids seem to have problems with the plastic wearing down over time after they are popped off a lot, especially based on some comments we've been getting. We're actually getting ready to post a new video reviewing this risk since we didn't explicitly mention it in this video. For now, we recommend only popping the spout every once any awhile for a really deep clean depending on how much often use your bottle and straw lid, but don't pop it off with every cleaning.

    Will this work with Stanley?

    • @bottlepro3252
      @bottlepro3252  7 місяців тому

      I'm not sure. The only Stanley I have is the Quencher that has the straw that slides in and out of the opening in the top cap, but I assume you're asking about the IceFlow since that's the one with the straw lid with a spout that's similar to these Hydro Flask lids. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try the IceFlow yet. I think most straw lid spouts attach a similar way though, so I wouldn't be surprised if it pops off. Just be careful to not do it too often because that can lead to wear-and-tear on the point where the spout connects to the lid.

    Be very careful w/the standard lid, pushing the spout away from the top did free it, but it also damaged the tab that keeps it in place. It's still working for now, but it will probably fall out in the future.

    • @bottlepro3252
      @bottlepro3252  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for the comment. For the Flex or original style? We didn't notice the Flex being too much looser when we made this video, but I can see how it could happen if the plastic bumps that hold the spout flatten out some. If we get more feedback like yours then I'll add a popup in the video to bring up this potential issue. Unfortunately it's the only way we know of to get the Flex spout off to clean it. Pushing the Flex Straw beyond the open position like you do to pop off the original spout lid would likely cause even more damage to the plastic.
