I always figured the vow of silence arose because actually talking to such a soulless being would likely incite violent rage in your average imperial citizen.
I'd like to see the average imperial citizen trying to kill a Sister of Silence considering how strong they are... and considering they have the backing of the goddamn Custodes.

@Ethan Magor Would not exactly say they're forgiving of genocides, it's just that a majority of transhuman warriors see themselves and are seen by most as way more important than a bunch of regular humans, especially considering how many of them there are in Wh40k.
As for the Inquisition, though I'm not necessarily a very big fan of them, I can understand them and why they would need to consider performing Exterminatus on planets. They can absolutely not allow the spread of chaos and if the taint of chaos is considered too great to be eliminated in conventional battle, then I understand why destroying the planet may be necessary.

About the Big E and Malkador beign unafected by the Sisters, there is another example of despite beign the most powerful psyker in the galaxy he doesn't only rely on the warp, the Big E's own deamons, the living saints.
It may be completely unrelated but if the Big E can spawn a deamon that can endure beign cut off from the warp he (and his bro Malkador) may had tricks to better stad the sisters.
My theory is that the emperor is strong enough to straight up tank the aura of any sisters around him.
At any given time, Big E is playing 5-D chess, coordinating a galactic scale war, plotting centuries ahead, powering the astronomicon and whatever other wildly OP shit he was known for, all at the same time.
If Enough Blanks popped a squat on Terra, it could fuck with the astronomicon, which is dangerous and sketchy for humanely, but let’s put that in perspective.
Even at the maximum amount of blanks ever allowed on Terra, the anti warp feedback they gave off is the equivalent of a 5 year old blowing out candles from across the room when compared to the emperors power.
As for malcador, we know he isn’t strong enough to do the same. A recent Novel showed very clearly that Magnus>Malcador, so I assume Big E just threw up a shield for him
To be honest, it's likely that seeing the emperor's "weak side" They think of him as a god that sacrificed himself for the good of all, basically like jesus, so, while knowing that he's just a man they also know that all his suffering is for the good of humanity, and they respect that.
They see him as a man because that's what they expect to see and what the emperor wants them to seem ABD made it clear that they don't actually see the true Emperor

@@agentchaos9332 There isn't exactly much room for interpretation when their ability to repulse the Warp varies. Sisters aren't just humans with their soul lights turned-off, they're a complex oddity like most Warp-related stuff. I'd sooner expect their nature to be comparable to the notion of the Emperor as the 'anathema' than being a rare variety of glorified monkey without a soul.
tl;dr - Not having a soul is simply too black & white and ultimately boring for 40k, especially warpfuckery.

It could also be that the Emperor and Malcador had gotten used to hanging out with them. Kind of like how the Necron Pariahs didn't affect Cain as much due to hanging out with Jurgen.
I wouldn’t say they’re training is intense compared to an a Space marine I would probably likein them to calexus assassins being trained very very carefully to maximize their effectiveness while not putting them in danger because they’re so rare

I actually really agree with the argument in the beginning. Adding in female space marines and custodes would just take attention away from the two Sisters, which are more interesting than either in my opinion.

Honestly if pariahs are like black holes, then I see the Emperor as more of a White hole. As you probably know Major, (since you're secretly smart) it's a theoretical phenomenon in astrophysics where matter is constantly expelled from a singularity. It's the literal opposite of a black hole. In this case, the Emperor is like a living hole in the warp. So if the Emperor is constantly expelling psychic energy, then the sisters or other pariahs can't really drain all of his psychic power. Using the white hole analogy, think of him like a supermassive white hole surrounded by a bunch of tiny black holes. Yeah they drain his power, but that much energy can't be dissipated by much weaker and less massive black holes. That's how I look at it anyways.
It kind of make sense, this also clarifies why the high lords disbanded the sisters of silence. Since without the emperor(while hole) providing matter to the sisters, they may start to pull all the other energy from someplace else, besides providing for a bunch of soulless entities, whom don't even talk is kind of unappealing.

After hearing the sisters of silence were soulless, I immediately did the cliché thing and looked at their hair. And I was not disappointed to see that they are ginger.
I loved the older art where the Sisters of Silence always looked like psychopaths due to their eyes!
They probably weren’t supposed to be silent in the beginning, but they all talked like Fran Drescher. So, the Emperor gets excited and says, “I just thought of the BEST name for your order!”

So far I’ve read lords of silence, cawl & the great works, lucius the faultless blade, Watchers of the throne, and have just started on the second book in the Fabius bile trilogy. Not to mention the many many other 40 K books I have that will be a while before I get to lol

In all seriousness, great article! Both entertaining, a hearty chuckle and informative. It’s got me inspired to clear this table of plastic.
Though on a slight tangent. I imagine they dress so boldly and bright because as pariahs they are hard to look at directly, thus by having rediclously ostentatious gold/brass/whatever armour with fur cloaks, it gives the eye something to look at without actually having to properly focus on them as individuals, a process that would drive most people mad, thus dampening down the difficulty in interacting with them. I once read a book that had a guy who basically dressed as a jester, as by his very nature he was basically was a permanent background character who couldn’t be observed unless he really drew the eye. Thus when he took off those garlish layers and basically disappeared made for a cool moment.

I prefer to believe that instead of being somehow immune to the SofS' drain, being that powerful while also technically a living being made the Sister's somehow beneficial to the Big E and little M. A little bit of Cleaning symbiosis or something, the Big E gets a bit of a psyker spa treatment, and I assume the Sisters enjoy sucking down warp energy, if they can enjoy anything.
Wait, don't they also crew the Black Ships, the second largest fleet in the Imperium, tasked with bringing psykers to Terra?

Do we have sisters minis for the Custodes? My mate is starting a 1Ksons army soon, so is gonna be heavy with psyker powers. I think I am starting Custodes as Jetbikes are cool and I want to do silver ones to get some good use from my high end silver paints (they were nearly 8 quid a pot. you can make glazes with them though, which you can't do with many metallic paints) It would be awesome if I had sisters of silence as part of that force, to really mess with his 1ksons sorcs.
I know theres an assassin I can use (Cullexus I think?) that is great at messing with Nerd heavy armies, but I think the Sisters will fit thematically with the Custodes really well.
I was going to do White Scars next as white armour looks badass, and also I love bike troops. I ideally want to have loads of those new primaris outriders, and some land speeders and stuff. maybe a couple of drop pods as well.
I might end up doing Custodes first though, as they also have bikes. I am a fan of elite armies as they have smaller mini count (I prefer small elite armies over huge horde ones, by like a million) and the Custodes are the elite of the elite, having an even smaller mini count than space marine armies.
I will still definitely be doing some white scars as well, as the idea of a force of biker marines is just too cool, but I'm really starting to warm up to the idea of doing some silver Custodes now. I think silver ones are canon as well. I need to get their new Codex and have a read about them.

Is there any interactions between Magnus and blanks since he is the only pysker that can match the emperor magical might I wonder if he was adversely affected by blanks or is his connection so strong that nothing can disrupt it

I can only think of two reasons that the Sisters of Silence don't speak. Either the augmentations that they probably receive wind-up melting their vocal cords, or when they take the oath of silence they take it a step further and remove their vocal cords

Fun fact a lot of demons can't actually see blanks. I imagine a similar thing happens with the sisters. (Greater demons and demon princes can I believe)

Hold on... at 10:20 majorkill says the sisters of silence see the emperor as a god and the primarchs as angels, but earlier in the video (5:15) he says they can see right through any warp illusions and trickery and a sister that gazed upon the emperor on the golden throne saw him as a mere man in agonising pain. So what, do the rest of the sisters just never ever get into his crib? Seems strange considering they share his defence with the custodes...
Sisters of silence are inspired by the fish speakers from the dune universe. They served as the great elite all female bodyguard and legions of the worm god emperor Leto II
