Out of curiosity, I'm wondering a couple things: 1. How big is the deadzone of the joystick? Put another way, how far do you have to move the stick left, right, up, down before it actually makes the camera move? 2. Does the rocker have varying levels of zoom based on how much it is pressed? Is it affected by the zoom speed setting?
With this controller set up, I've got some notes for people to be aware of. These are NOT flaws or problems, but potentially a "gotcha" so you can be ready for it. 1. When using a mixture of cameras(we have 2 AVKANS and 1 FoMako-based camera), be mindful of what is and is not supported by the chosen control protocol. For example, power on/off is supported by VISCA and Sony-VISCA, but not ONVIF. So some functions may not be available depending on the protocol used to control the camera. 2. Similar to the above, your experience actually using the controller will also be affected by the protocol used. Off my sample size of 1, my FoMako-based camera gets much finer pan/tilt control over ONVIF, but using VISCA, I have degrees of control over zoom speed, but seem to lose smoothness in pan/tilt operation. 3. Even if a camera is not currently assigned, a short press on any of the Cam/F buttons will initially force a connection to a non-existent camera. Best bet is to simply reassign these to a function as a short press until you need it as a camera key. Makes life easier. I have F4 and F5 set to mute since those would be invisible mistakes. F6 is set as shutdown, so that's pretty scary, but eh. 4. When powering a camera on, the controller may first try to power the camera off(it'll give a power off prompt first). Simply press it again, it will show a power on message and the camera will come to life. Some cameras take longer than others. Test this function so you know how long to expect boot times to be. Basically, make sure to test each PTZ camera you have on each protocol it supports to see what the tradeoffs will be and then settle on it. You can switch the protocol on the fly, but that isn't something I'd want to be live switching while broadcasting too much. Very pleased with the controller overall, makes life in the booth a little easier.
It looks like the birddog controller too. I like the look of this controller but i do like the ptz optics new ptz controller that has the hdmi output as well.
Hello AJ, what PTZ controller would you recommend, we only have 1 PTZ camera at the moment although we have 2 more that are not PTZ but hope to upgrade to PTZ in the future? Thank you and keep up the good work.
AJ - I purchased 3 AV-CM30 and 1x AV-Joy-IP - the system finds the cameras and controls them well. But sometimes after just a few mins, all 3 cameras are 'timeout' and no light on the led buttons. However, full control is still possible, pressing cam buttons 1-3 selects the cameras - but always complains about 'timeout' so no LED light. Very weird - have you seen this before? I'm using static IPs for all units. Cameras and Joystick are the only ones on the POE - any hint AVKANS support is no show - email them twice already
great video AJ. I have the controller but the preset options don;t work. Camera movement great. Zoom, pan, and tilt; great. but no preset. Any thoughts?
Hi, is auto-tracking built-in feature of the camera or CMS software running on PC is needed to start, run and stop auto tracking? In order words is it possille to use auto tracking without connected PC?
Hi, My question is. If you have 2 controllers, 1 is at the studio and the other is at the streaming venue . Can i work from the studio with it when everybody is at the streaming venue ? Thx
Hello AJ, how do you select the cameras preset white balance with this controller. (Indoor, outdoor,) I can only seem to get auto, manual, and one push....

I would recommend this one. I use these for all my installs unless the client asks for a specific one
Hi AJay , as no live view picture on the controller, is there a delay from touching to seeing on a computer screen or monitor? 🤔
The delay is from the computer not from the controller to the camera

You need to use number then function. Also make sure you do not have quick actions enabled when setting up the presets

The link for the controller on Amazon doesn’t work. Is this product no longer available?
It is out of stock
It looks like they are not currently selling it separately. I could only find them in camera bundles
I see that. And it isn’t bundled with the camera we wish to purchase
Does the outro have to be 65db louder than the dialog? Everyone came running to complain.
Sorry this was done at 3am in the morning. I forgot to lower it
Hi, How do I find the ip adress for the cameras in order to program with the joy stick?
Run the search function on the joystick. It will find them if you have everything connected to your network

How do you set or make a preset?
Move the camera to the desired position. press the desired number for the position you want and then Preset.
