Thanks for this nice little post. It was both interesting and helpful to see what those little power supplies look like inside. I was half expecting you to whip out four diodes and make your own rectifier but I liked your solution - your lights have never had it so good!
Belated Happy Christmas and thank you for all your interesting content. Have a great 2024.
Fun little video, I thought you were going to whip out the angle grinder to get in 😁 I hope you had a great Christmas and all the best for 2024
Thanks Skyway73... I actually do have an angle grinder, the video was genuine. Otherwise, I might have included it for the comedic effect. Nice to hear from you. I hope you too had a good Xmas and the best for the new year.
Enjoyable Video, I was hoping you would do one as I always look forward to them. Wishing you and your family a happy Christmas and I look forward to the up and coming videos. 😊
Thanks Richard. Wishing you a great Christmas too! Really appreciate the comments. Thanks so much.
Well improvised, merry Christmas 🌲
Cheers Dave.... and a great Christmas to you too
That was excellent, I'm always happy when one of your videos pop up, what a great Christmas present. Thanks and a very happy Christmas and new year to you and the wife. On another note I see you've still got the Coco 2 there in the background (great little system that). Did you manage to sort out the colour band it had on screen? Anyway, take care.
Hi 8bits. Thanks for your kind words. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too. I do still have the coco2 but don't spoil the surprise as its probably going to be my next video which I hope to drop before new year. Then it's on to maybe my tired Tatung Einstein or Oric 1 or perhaps something else TBD! All will be revealed! Thanks again for your comments. Much appreciated
Thanks for the Video, I hope you and the family are having a great Christmas.
Thanks Ghost Retro I hope you have an excellent Christmas too. Thanks so much for your comments and support!
I love it! Fix it quick. Deal with it later. Merry Christmas!
Happy Christmas to you too! Replacement power supplies are cheap so unfortunately ... landfill here we come! Thanks so much for your comment. Have an awesome Christmas
LMAO… struggles like of us with prying tools then grabs a dremmel 😂😂
Glad you enjoyed the funny! Thanks so much for your comments
@@RetroTechRepair thank you for the videos, have a great Xmas and new year !!
@@highroyds you too!
Merry Christmas Roger, glad to see a new video up. How was that boards input connected to the high voltage? Was it similar to the DC output?
Good Outcome and just in time to save Christmas! :-)
Ingenuity at its best! Thanks for watching. Hope that you enjoyed the video and have a great Christmas!
Electrical repairs, always better done BEFORE the pub. :)
Agreed! Thanks so much for your comment. You are first! Happy Christmas
Had the same power adapter and opened it the same way. I didn't spend as long as you did risking stabbing my non dominate hand though. I've been bitten too many times.
Thanks for the comment. I mercifully escape injury, but was encouraged it wasn't too easy to open from a safety perspective, even if it surprised me. When you opened it up had the tracks evaporated from yours too?
Merry Christmas 🎁🎄
And to you audibell! Thanks for the comments. Have a wonderful day
When working with line power more often, really, really get a current limited isolation transformer. Because there is a whole powerplant on the other end of the socket.
You are absolutely correct! Although it was protected by a GFCI, I'm not sure if that helps. Thanks so much for your concern, comments, and advice.
@@RetroTechRepair Well, the GFCI should break the circuit much faster than a fuse, but still you get a shock. The trick of the isolation transformer is, that it isolates the DUT against ground. So in order to get a shock, you have to touch _both_ wires. Without it, earth will act as ground and so you can get a shock just by touching _one_ wire. Unless you are isolated against earth yourself, e.g. by wearing rubber boots. Isolation transformers are the way to go. And if it's also variable, you can slowly raise line AC to see if the DUT does something without risking more damage by applying full power immediately. A current limiter is the icing on the cake, but often a conventional light bulb will do (and show roughly how much current flows).
@@RetroTechRepair If you can live with low current, the poor man's isolation transformer can be built by getting two cheap identical transformers (NOT autotransformers!) and connecting them back-to-back, i.e. primary-secondary-secondary-primary. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for the inspiring and enjoyable videos,
Cheers! Have an amazing Christmas. Thanks so much for helping the channel along with your kind comments and suggesting co-ops with other channels. Made a massive difference. Have a great one!
Excellent, bypass the suicidal power supply with something proper and get to the pub 👍
Indeed it worked out well, although It was a massive rush to get the video up in time! Thank you so much for your kind words. Have a wonderful holiday season.
I used to do medical battery refurib and the dremel was usually my first tool. Too many wounds from every other method.
Yes... lucky escape perhaps... don't want to end up in hospital Xmas day! Thanks for taking time to leave a comment on Christmas Day. Hope you have a great one!
Funny outcome
Glad you enjoyed the video
hmm, aren’t all plugs supposed to be fused in UK ? Unless that charcoal of bridge rectifier counts for BS 1363 😅 )
Mmm that's a very good point. But come to think of it I don't think "wall-wart" power supplies are fused. Certainly anything that carries 240v AC from the outlet is fused at the plug, perhaps with at-plug step down maybe not. I noticed as I watch the video back that much of the PCB track has evaporated on the AC side so maybe they should be! Anyways, thanks so much for your comments and thoughtful question. Hope you have an amazing Christmas!
@@RetroTechRepair Happy Christmas !
Something something cheating, something 😄
LoL.. well I have to have a bit of fun at Christmas! Thanks so much for your comments!
