    Just found your channel today from a comment on somebody else's channel lol! I really love what you do, seeing old tech get repaired is awesome!! I'm only 20 so seeing older stuff is always extremely fascinating especially with how simple yet complex things were made✨️

    Another great repair! Just needed a little love and it’s back in operation. I’m sure someone would pay up for that toy just to enjoy digging up childhood memories.

      Thanks Brian. So glad that you enjoyed the repair. Boris has now moved on to his new home. He sold for more than I paid but made a loss after after fees 😕 poor Boris. That's usually how my repairs go unfortunately. But I don't currently do this for profit so as long as people are enjoying the videos that's a good thing! Thanks for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed the video.

      @@RetroTechRepair It was definitely a fun video. If I was to go through the toy section of a catalogue from the 70s and 80s, I would have a field day looking at the toys I wish I had.

      @RetroTechRepair  Рік тому +1

      @awal1701 me too. I used to keep quite a few tandy catalogues and got really excited when the new argos catalogue came out. I remember catalogues like littlewoods and Gratton too big thick things with while sections of electronics and toys.

      @awall1701 Рік тому +1

      @@RetroTechRepair oh yes the big thick catalogues, certainly reminds me of Christmas in the 70s and 80s. I am lucky enough to still have a number of board games and toys from the 70s and 80s that need minor repair.

    Gosh I got this for Christmas....loved it. The noise it makes is wrong. It used to screech. Something is definitely wrong with the sound.

    • @RetroTechRepair
      @RetroTechRepair  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Hans, You are the first commenter who actually had one of these. I looked at some other videos after your comments and their Boris sounded like mine, so it could be a common problem, but since the circuit is so simple Im wondering if perhaps there were later / different versions of the game. I think mine was an early one and later ones used C-cells so perhaps they improved the design over time with better sound too. Either way a great comment. Thank you for sharing.

      @@RetroTechRepair 1979 is the year I got Boris for Christmas if that helps at all. I’m sure I remember it being an awful screeching sound but then again a lot of time has passed and I could be wrong...lol. All the best.

      @Hans Bambach Thanks more good info........ That does help, I think mine is an early one too so that's my theory busted. This one seems to perform the same way, but it could still be a common fault. ua-cam.com/users/shortsY6TVKoR7h9M?feature=share

    Just like with a TV remote. The way to test to see if it is working is to point it at a phone camera. The Infra-red led if working can be seen on the phone screen.

    Presumably the name was inspired by 60s Who song, Boris the Spider.

    • @willjones945
      @willjones945 Рік тому +1

      Possibly, also the giant spider built by Matt Irvine of the BBC sfx department. He named that Boris and it appeared with him regularly on Swap Shop and the like around the late 70s……

      Thanks Michael. I'd forgotten all about that song. One of the other commenter suggested that John Entwistle attempted legal action against Corgi/Mettoy over the game, but I haven't been able to confirm that.

      Thanks Paul. I am with you on the game play, it doesn't seem to offer much does it?. Although some commenters have owned them and have fond memories. I remember I had a "lightening Luke" similar kind of thing and played it for hours on end, so perhaps we just had simpler expectations back then. Either way thanks of much for your kind words. very much appreciated.cheers

    I’m think, if I remember correctly, Boris’s interior light was red or green.

    • @RetroTechRepair
      @RetroTechRepair  9 місяців тому

      I think there may have been multiple versions but the one I had has red led eyes and a incandescent bulb that shines through boriss green rubber body. So it makes sense you remember both red and green if it was the same version I had. Thanks so much for your comments. Really appreciated. Always good to hear from someone who played these games as a child

    I had 'Stop Boris' as a kid back in the late 70s, I've no idea how my parents got it for me if it was that expensive as we were not anywhere near well off. I have the feeling one of them might have fallen off the back of a lorry in my father's direction...
    I was told in no uncertain terms to never shoot the gun at my brother (he would've been a toddler at the time) as it was dangerous...I don't know if they thought that it fired microwaves and I'd fry his brain or it would cause him to grow two heads. Considering they were quite intelligent people they believed some really stupid cobblers. (I wont even get into the whole video nasties thing...)
    Of course over the years it became a good way of tormenting my brother when they weren't around. Unfortunately when I moved out from my parents house it was under a dark cloud, and everything that was left was disposed of. So my poor Boris is probably under 50 tonnes of rubbish, along with my ZX Spectrum and other bits and pieces in a landfill somewhere.

    • @RetroTechRepair
      @RetroTechRepair  Рік тому +1

      Thanks "A hole" and thanks so much for sharing your story with us. So happy to bring back some childhood memories. I remember my parents (also quite bright) believed everything they read in the newspapers... "it said in the paper that..." so I had my fair share of nonsense facts growing up too! Hopefully your brother survived without lasting damage. I'd imagine many a boris ended up in landfill, I pity the first person to unearth one. I should imagine a 10" spider is a scary find. As for the speccie if you want some nostalgia for that, I have a rubber key and a spectrum+ to repair somewhere so at some point you might see one of those here. 'till then.... thanks again!

    Hey, great job this sounds like it’s all based on Celestine Dessike's Words of Desire. And yes, that’s the material you need to have him resonating with erotic electricity at your will. Sounds like too much IK, but just for the basics it's worth go'ogling her ;)

    • @RetroTechRepair
      @RetroTechRepair  16 днів тому

      Well I suppose if Celine gets "desire" from repairing old electronics there's a chance, but probably this is just spamming
