With the release of their self-titled debut, The Ocean Blue quickly achieved widespread acclaim and radio & MTV airplay with top 10 Modern Rock/College Radio hits like "Between Something and Nothing", "Drifting, Falling", and "Vanity Fair". Followed by Cerulean, Beneath the Rhythm and Sound , and See The Ocean Blue, the band's fanbase grew with each release.
The band continued to several records, including 2000's Davy Jones Locker and 2004's Waterworks. In 2013, the band released their first full length record in a decade, Ultramarine, on Korda Records. In 2015, the band worked with Sire Records to reissue their first three albums on vinyl, and toured North America and South America, where some of their most passionate fans reside.
In 2019, the band returned with the beautifully powerful Kings and Queens / Knaves and Thieves, and has continued to tour for this release and the newly re-issued vinyl of See The Ocean Blue (2022) and Davy Jones Locker (2023).
The best British band to ever come out of Pennsylvania.
Over - under its all music - there is reason but I don't care I grew up with Jimmy Page that aura with a lot of great bands do I listen to Led Zeppelin today no do I want to no.The Ocean Blue been following them for quit awhile do I listen to them today you bet over and over and over .
They was better than the British bands just never got the big break
Yeah that's how good they are!!! Just like An English band!!
This whole album was fire.
😂😂😂
People always complain about this kind of bands being underated, this is their destiny, because this beauty, sincerity and honesty is not for everybody.
you right my friend!, 10 years ago I played this song in the first show of my band! greetings from Lima-Peru
Word!
Its a very interesting phenomena cause´there are bands that are heavly overated...Hendrix Expierence, Zeppelin and Nirvana
I totally agree with you!
Thats correct.
Absolutely haunting. If you hear it once, you’ll never forget it
eles não mudam nada
Going on 30 years now and still not tired of these guys..
I heard this song on Sirius today on the 1st Wave channel during Richard Blades' show. I had forgotten all about it. Thanks again Richard for reminding of songs of my teen years! 🎉❤😊
The Bladester is still on radio Sirius XM Awesome
If you can look up mtv 120
Minutes from the early 90..
Eternal masterpiece. Went direct into my heart and stayed there forever.
Well said. It's really that great. 👍🏻
Just saw the Ocean Blue last night at the Casbah in SD, after being a fan since the 1st LP in 1989 it was my first time seeing them ( sadly ) but I have to say it was one of the best shows I have ever seen. 20 songs, no break, and true professionalism from start to end, absolutely blew my mind!
I’ve been to the Casbah. Wish I had known they were playing!
A beautiful yet forgotten song. I never hear this anywhere. Amazing how so many songs and groups from this period have been forgotten. Great work Ocean Blue band members, a spellbinding song.
En Lima los recordamos con mucho aprecio.
2018 and this song is still beyond INCREDIBLE!!!... one of the most under-rated bands
2019 and this song is still beyond INCREDIBLE!!!
seeing them tonight in Seattle! 6/27
@@phongle-wh6lw Saw them in Chicago last week. Still amazing. And, they did Ballerina.
2020 this song is still beyond INCREDIBLE!!!!

I NEVER GET TIRED OF THIS SONG. VERY ETHEREAL
Me too. This and "Listen Its gone"
Alchemy.
try my friend's song for another cool ethereal one... ua-cam.com/video/kt4QZXtmx60/v-deo.html
Also a very over-used description Chris song that is clearly laid out in bars and measures. Buy a thesaurus
I really believe these were ahead of their time. That’s what makes them great. Such a unique sound.
I had this on a cassette for my walkman as a kid. I Love The Ocean Blue! 💙
One day you'll feel the need to scan eBay, to have this object again, as a way to reconnect with those wonderful years. And you shouldn't feel ashamed about. It's wonderful, beautiful music, delicate, elegant, deliciously melancholic...
YES YES YES YES. THIS OMG me too!!!
hell, i remember hearing a live interview with them on the radio in like 1991 talking about how this song is based on a girl they saw at one of their concerts
@@Retroscoop um, I still have it.
save him please !!!1
Saw them the night before Thanksgiving in Detroit 1993. Probably the best live sound I've ever heard.
The House of love, otro grupazo de aquella época dorada.
"Lightning Seeds" tmb otra banda que sonaba en esa época.
Excelente, Perú presente🇵🇪!!
Sin duda la era New Wave 80s, de los New Romantics es imbatible, no hay color con la triste actualidad musical.
Galerías Brasil! y las horas que se pasaba uno en la tienda de Julio y Zombie.
Her world came crashing down
And all that it contained
A million pieces of dreams
Coming apart at the seams
But she twists and she whirls
Dismissing it aa away,
Wasn't quite the same as it was
Yesterday
Her night begins the day
Why think when we can play
"I find it so hard to find,
A certain dress of that kind"
As she twists and she whirls
And she dances it all away,
The problems persist, they won't
Go away
She twists and she whirls
Dancing it all away,
Would rather see the night
Than the reason of the day
I find it so hard to find
Any reason to this kind
The most underrated band of all time. I saw them in Hollywood in '00. Great performance!
As a guy born in 1991, all i have wished till now is to build a time machine to go back in this time.
The music was dreamy, serene, colourful and soul quenching.
EritreanChic I did. Beautiful songs!
I'd also recommend The Railway Children, The Trashcan Sinatras, and Riverside's album "One".
Dale Picolet Thanks! Will do.
Shivoy Pandita Yay! I'm glad you liked them.
Shivoy Pandita I grew up in the era... the music is the only thing you missed.
I have friends that know them very well. They are still around but not in original form...I remember seeing them on a rainy sat. afternoon at Lebanon Valley College. The best rainy day I ever had.
I remember hearing this band in the late 80's early 90's on alternative rock radio, never knew who they were until I stumbled on to them recently, luv' their music.
I first heard of these guys when I went to see Ian McCulloch (Echo & the Bunnymen) live back in the early 90s. It's the first and only concert I've been to where the opening band blew away the headliner.
I had a similar experience in the early 90's when the Replacements opened for Elvis Costello. The Replacements were incredible...I asked my GF, now wife, if we could leave about three songs into Elvis.
This song takes me back to the 1990's. I was 16 in 1990. A full future ahead... youth beauty and hope...
Brings me to a specific time in my life………every time………which is what music is supposed to do. Thank you Ocean Blue !
Best band I ever worked for, miss you guys
They are on tour. I saw them a few weeks in Boston. Still rocking, absolute great show! Don't understand how they are not selling out stadiums
I loved these guys in college. The Ocean Blue. Innocence Mission. Suddenly Tammy. Nights at the Chameleon in Lancaster. Great days.
Saw them at the Chameleon quite a few times myself.
All of those bands came to Max's on Broadway in Baltimore too.
We met The Innocence Mission a few times in NY way back when, super nice folks. I saw them play about five times, all told.
I still have a huge signed (by Don and Karen) poster they signed for me backstage at some WLIR FM special concert at Mulcahy's Wantagh, I think it was the Umbrella tour, they opened for Alison Moyet among others. We also hung out with the Judybats
before and after the same show, another fine band. We even caught Innocence Mission at the long-gone bar Woody's
in NYC, owned by Ron Wood for a time.
Ocean Blue always came out and spoke with their fans...I remember them playing pool at a club in Providence right before their gig and just hanging out, and another time at a free concert in Boston they were standing behind us as John Wesley Harding was warming up for them and when he finished i turned to them and said “okay, go play” and they started cracking up.
OMG, Tracy....YES!!!! And t
The Village! The Metron in York! Seeing the Sharks & Press Club! What memories!
Just saw them at The Regent Theater up in L.A., fantastic show, David and the boys sound just as good now as they did over 30yrs ago.
first time I heard this song was back in 1993.....a friend let me borrow the Cerulean cassette and blew me away! Now I listen to it on vinyl and it sounds superb!
It's year 2020 and I'm still using their CD to test the latest hi-fi system.
My first cd player and this is the cd I got for Christmas. It is an engineering phenom. Great sound
Me too..greetings from Holland
Their records were mixed so well.
My fave song of the 1990's and one of my most fave artists ever. Saw them in 1993 at the Paradise in Boston. The show was superb - it was like going to a symphony, there was no ego, BS, etc - they just performed their music brilliantly the entire time. So pure, simple, yet sophisticated. They're still together with David leading but major personnel changes since they went indy, still waiting on a new album.
I first heard this song when I was 15. I'm 47 now. "She'd rather see the night than the reason of the day" is a quote that's tattooed in my soul right up there with "there never was a world for her but the one she sang, and singing, made".
The most under rated band in American history...I love it that way!...I knew it....bite me.
Couldn't agree more. Just...overlooked...brilliant music and lyrics...well, we were there...
youll love starflyer 59 as well then?
Ah, the early 90's. Bowl cuts, dad jeans, and twangy, melodic indie music. This was the answer to hair metal bands. How I have missed this.
..I kind of miss the hair metal as well.
Not a bowl cut...under cut bobbed. The jeans are probably Guess.
They were a mid/late 80s band that pretty much ended around 91
Bowl cuts look good with a duck face.
Simpler times, we had a ball didn't we?
A perfect song!! Still listening to it 2020!
I love the guitar work in this song, especially during the chorus.
I totally forgot this song existed... until I heard the first riff and it all came back to me! I love this song!
Estarán hoy en Perú September-05-2019, saludos desde Montreal CA! I love the ocean blue!
The Ocean Blue

this song gives me some nostalgia. Those good memories of a fresh warm morning and a summer evening staring at the sunset... losing all sense of time... a feeling, hard to describe...
I miss everything about the 80’s...my youth, the styles but mostly the music. What a great era to grow up in and what an amazing decade of music. Maybe I’m biased having grown up then but I really doubt there’ll ever be one as great.
the 2000s were pretty awesome as well but everything turned to shit after 2014, i'm really hoping that the 2020s are a renaissance and manage to take everything good from the 80s-2000s
we seem to be heading that way when it comes to media, at least, but i REALLY hope music does too
@@Rogue_Nine416 agree 👍

Instantly fell in love with this song when I first heard it; bought the album and listened to it all the time while going to sleep in college-SOOOO RELAXING!
❤❤❤
World came crashing down when this does not get played on the radio. Classic song from a classic album & band.
They played this song on Seattle's 107.7 The End station back in 1991-92. Good times.
Bigtime1998 Greetings from Seattle as well, thank you for playing such good music back then... Seattle has gotten so much worse since those times... wish there was a time machine....
Before 107.7 there was C-89. Any fellow Seattleites remember that station?
I listened to that station all the time when I lived there! I miss Federal Way so much, it brings tears!
@@jasonthayer1309 FedWay is practically unrecognizable from what it was like in the '80s-'90s, or even the early 2000s. So much has closed down and left or been literally demolished (in the case of the pending arrival of light rail service there in 3 years or so). You're probably not missing out on much.
We need more music like this
❤👊
you must love super-simple music
@Roy Nonnenmann Is there a problem with it?
@@jokro9324 this amazing
For you, CH/CT...I hope to see you again in a beautiful place that looks and feels like the way this band (particularly this album) sounds, where problems never persist and won't go away.
Easiest front of house mixing gigs I ever worked. These guys could do this stuff w/no sound check.
Back when music had dynamics and space. Been a fan since the first album came out when I was 14. In my top 10 favorite bands ever.
Wow I haven't heard this beautiful song in soooo many years. Brings me right back to that time when it first came out...lovely, bittersweet memories.
loved these guys in my college years in the late 80's and early 90's. Very underrated band. Still listen to their albums to this day.
Same…loved them as well as The Las and The Lightning Seeds.
Haven't thought of the Lightning Seeds in forever. Going to listen to them now. Thanks!@@Tomes23
This takes me back! A simpler and innocent time!❤️❤️

oh wow! such a nice memories of my high school by listening to this song ... such a peaceful life in Barranco ... really miss those days oh so much ....
Yeah!!!! Barranco, partying in the boulevard and then got more drinks at the other side of the bridge.
Paulina Garcia :)
Paulina Garcia The Ocean Blue estuvo hace unos pocos años atrás en Lima.
We surely used to li¡sten to this kind of music and others my friend. Specially those of use who were born in the late 60s or early 70s. Now I can proudly say that even my kids listen to this kind of art. Not like the "music" you have to listen to now.
My son asked me to go hear them in Washington this Sep/18 so I just listened to them here for the first time. My God how beautiful the songs, playing and vocals - I may be late, but add me to the admirers of this wonderful band.
I remember how my local radio station would play their songs so rarely. They got minimal AirPlay at least around where I lived...And you know what...That's exactly how I liked it.....when you least expected it....out of blue...the radio station would play one their many amazing songs... Always taking my mind to a different place....Far Far Away.
This video such a time capsule.
The keyboard player bouncing to the music, and there in the corner for absolutely no reason, the guy standing in the squares of light.
I half expect to see Kennedy from MTV to introduce this.
A band from PA that i still enjoy 20 years later....my respect is great.
Low Wealth Esteem The Kit Kats were from Philly too I think. Two great bands
Props to PA. Good music and good people. Some of my great friends are from this state!
This song takes me back to 1989, 1990; and I’m wondering at the age of 16 what is to be of my life? thinking about ‘a love’ that doesn’t really exist. 35 years later two homes, three kids, a lifelong career. I’m still wondering the same thing. It’s amazing how a song can you bring so many horrific memories but yet beautiful thoughts as well… why is that?
One of the great pop bands of the last 20 years. They never had one bad record. I also love the clean simple drum beat and crisp baritone guitar in this song. I think being this good is its own reward so don't worry about them being underrated or overlooked.
A great interpretation of some feelings. I'm 61 now, and it has a motivating vibe for me to learn something solid on the guitar i have and get some equipment for recording
80s Music will never fade! An awesome decade for music, fashion, movies... Glad I experienced it!
their music holds up well even today and deserves more airplay on SiriusXM 1st Wave, c'mon Richard!
It doesn't get much better than this.
My God, what a GORGEOUS song! It still sounds as 'fresh' and relevant today, as it did back when.
Buenísimo 💜 Calidad y belleza en estado puro, GOOD TIMES!!
Wow, first off this is an amazing song in and of itself, but than to add just a perfect video of simplicity without distractions to detract from how beautiful the song is. This is one of my all time favorites, hope others out there feel the same
One of the most underated bands of the 90's. Drifting, Falling is one of my favorite songs ever.
The Ballerina is so beautiful
I remember watching this video on VH-1 Classics- 120 Minutes years ago. Great band
One of those songs that wraps around you like a blanket. I will never get sick of it..
Nothing but the best " ever"
Como te envidio
Yo soy milenial
FPP... gracias!
An early-90s college band not afraid to use synthesizers for effect and texture. Simply amazing.
3 minutes and 52 seconds of condensed beauty...sublime!
Bowl haircuts, check; rugby shirts, check; digging it.
Great song, Great memories in a SummerCamp beach, love it!! Thanks The Ocean Blue for your great music!!
Take’s me back! Into the arms of my ballerina. Mary where are you! Let’s dance💙
Time machine back to the mid-90's, driving around with Dirk and DJ in Dirk's pickup truck. Simpler times spent with my best friends. Damn, I miss you guys.
this is what i am FUCKING TALKING ABOUT!!!! good good music!!!!
In reply to the last few posts: They are from Hershey, their first album was in the 80's, but their big break out, Cerulean, which contains this song, is from the 90's, as their other major label albums. Actually, in the early 90's they were quite popular in the US, at least on the east coast. They were featured on MTV quite a bit, and I saw them at a major music festival in 92 or 93. They did a killer ep in the early 00's, and promise a follow up still. Frankly, I think they are still great.
For some reason they bring to mind The Mighty Lemon Drops...TMLD were most prolific around 1988-89...so they shared an era with these guys...
Watching this reminds me of my childhood spending all day watching this on MTV, now I'm spending all my time watching UA-cam.
If you like these guys check out a UK 80s band called The Wild Swans. Very similar sound.
Love The Wild Swans.
Railway Children also.
Si, también me gustan.
any relation to the lotus eaters?
gibbyh65 yes the guitarist from wild swans went on to the lotus eaters. Jerry Kelly.
I've always enjoyed this band. I never felt they were overly influenced by English bands or any other bands for that matter. For me, Ocean Blue has their own sound and style that I am really drawn to.
So good ! I am now lost in a sea of memories.
Beautiful - listening to this feels like one of those clear early autumn days when a rainbow colours are cascading everwhere. Lovely, dreamy music
One of my favorite bands! It takes me back to the early 90's..in high school. Great times, no worries.
I'll never forget seeing them in 1993 at Liberty Lunch in Austin, TX. I'll forever remember the ironing board holding Steve's keyboard. That was so cool. Oed Ronne did a crappy job getting Steve's saxophone ready. Didn't soak the reed. He was squeaking like crazy.
🎉hi peeps… yesterday I commented somewhere here and said I would come back to suggest another band/album that sounds as good as this song! The band is Fimbria and the LP can be listened to in full on UA-cam channel called In Depth Music. Someone THERE suggested THIS band and they were right 🎉sounds very good 👍🏻 ❤

Hollow body guitars and serious bowl cuts, a true 90s 💎.
The surfer boys from Harrisburg Pa. doubt they are still together, good clean sound.
Thank you Ocean Blue for the beautiful tunes. I love them all. I listen to them just about everyday. Their music is SO different and nice and like no other. Music that makes you feel GREAT! God Bless you and all the fans!
This cd was good and the one before it was perfect. Not one bad track.
I'll second that motion!!!
