I know Cosimo Fusco the actor who played Paolo had a problem with this role cuz he felt it depicted Italians in a very stereotypical fashion.

It's still baffling that Phoebe was obviously wronged just as much as Rachel, since Paolo blatantly sexually assaulted her without her prior consent, yet it's almost always phrased as him having "hit on" her.

A lot of problems were kind of portrayed light like remember joey’s tailor assaulted chandler and also joey and his dad! People laughed about it cause it was comedy back then.
