Camped here with friends. Turned out to be great. Bathrooms were kept clean and had water. Quiet in the evenings. The fishing was not so great at Williams Creek Res. but the scenery and driving trails were great! We camped in the 1st camping spot. Good amount of firewood around the area as well.
Another great review but maybe you can mention how many miles you have to travel on a dirt road to get into these parks -- we’re not a big fan of washboard dirt roads 🍻 - I caught it at the end - thanks again
Our video of the Palisade Horse Camp is just up the road. Here's the link if you want to see more of the scenery: ua-cam.com/video/c3HzFsIDXsU/v-deo.html
the dispersed camping mentioned in the start and end of this video has been shut down by the USFS due to environmental degradation caused by people not camping in a proper manner and trashing the area
No cell service at Cimarrona or the other area campgrounds. There was a pay phone on the side of the road by one of the nearby campgrounds. First time I have seen that. Most of this year's videos should have cell service info in the notes below the video. (on a drop-down menu if watching on a mobile device). If it says "yes", then assume it is 4g. I'll mention any that are 3g only in the same section of the video notes.
i noiced some mention a check in time and check out time on the website, are you finding this to be consistant with what is posted at the camp grounds?
I have not noticed inconsistencies with those times at any campgrounds we have visited. I was really surprised by the amount of wrong information on the Forest Service website for campgrounds in the San Juan National Forest. More than half of the campgrounds we recently recorded were charging more than what was listed online. Length of stay was wrong for a couple campgrounds as well. 28 days vs 14 days online. We even found 2 or 3 that said no reservations on the Forest Service site but found out they did accept reservations once we arrived.
Hey thanks for the quick reply! I was wondering if you know how I can find out the off trail camping rules for this area... I am planning on going up to Williams creek res area next month but sometimes in the past when I’ve gone, all camp sites are in use. So in the past I’ve gone to the trailhead parking area and hiked into the forest and made my own camp spot (considerate to nature though of course) but I’ve gotten yelled at in the past for that. So I’m wondering what exactly are the rules? I think you need to be a minimum distance from the trail and a minimum distance from the creek, if I’m in the wilderness area.
Another nice campground.
Nice and remote! I liked this one

This one was 20+ miles down a well-maintained dirt road. No washboard at the time of our visit
Beautiful area! Thank you

is it all boondocking?
There is some boondocking just down the road from the campground

Sad. Thanks for letting us know.
Locals say it 'Wee mi nooch'. I'm a 30 yr local...
One of my biggest mistakes. I had bad information when I recorded our first couple of videos in the area
Can you please mention if the campgrounds have 4G service which is very important for those trying to work remotely while camping - great job!

@@CampgroundRecon we have found the same to be true where we visit.
I thought it was pronounced “wemm-inn-oosh”? Thanks for the awesome vids tho!
You are closer than I am. I've learned to check with a couple of sources for pronunciation.

@@JaviAirwraps Correct. Roughly 100 - 150 feet from the trail or creek is all that is required.
Okay cool. Thanks!
