I am a metal head from the 80's. Along come you young guitarists shredding like crazy and giving us old guys some fierce competition. You got some nice chops. Thanks.
Hey, I want to thank you so much. After years I realized how to make that lick of Zack .. Maybe I was just stupid but from others I couldn't understand how to do it. Yesterday after succeeding I was about to cry for happiness. Thank you
Hey, just discovered your channel recently. Love your teaching style, and you're not a pretentious snob either!!I've been playing for years, but never had the discipline to learn specific songs and licks, now I think I just might. Thanks!
Oh THAT is satisfying ... Lick 1 is the lick I began the night looking for... watching everyone play the solo from A Man I'll Never Be and Piece of Mind... and guys who cover it don't explain that lick. Turns out I'm playing the right notes, but just suck at cycling it in the right timing. THANK YOU!
Thx for this vid. These (and part 1) are what I’ve been looking for. I’m jamming songs with my jam-band and now we’re at a point where they’re looking to me like ‘ok, it’s time for a solo’ and I’m like ‘um, yeah, i need to work on something for this song’. (They are songs where the actual solo is non descript or not all that great. Im convinced I can do better, but that’s easier said than done)
gonna give this stuff a try haha, 40+ years on bass, picked up LP few months back and just now figuring out how to hold onto a pick without dropping it lol. Jorn viggo lofstad of Pagan's mind has ended my love of bass. great vids..
I absolutely love the way that guitar looks. I had seen a telecaster style guitar with that kind of color combination that blue..(flat trans blue?) with maple fretboard. And I had wanted to find a guitar like that, but in that kind of strat/Super strat shape, and then I stumbled on one of your videos and just fell in love with your guitar.
I'm a sucker for pentatonic licks. #2 I learned from a Paul Gilbert song I think one of the Technical Difficulty versions? One of my favorites. Awesome video!
So awesome. Thanks. I was trying to record a solo for a new song and was kind of stuck. Then I saw this video and it filled in just what I needed. Thanks so much
first solo i ever learnt was the trooper, followed by wasted years and number of the beast - as a total beginner ( they were very hard work but i love playing them still) - it sure would have been a lot easier if i'd had internet access to videos such as this to learn from ! Licks 1 and 5 i managed to work out myself without lessons by ear so it's cool to look at this lesson and see them being played and that i had got them right. i began learning 4 years ago and definitely started on things that were too difficult at first and probably slowed down my progress initially as i didn't have the skills.
Nothing is more frustrating in the morning when a dude on UA-cam says the lesson is with tabs but you scroll around and there aren’t any tabs!!!! If you want people to buy your stuff that includes tabs, then just say so. Say something like, “ and here are the tabs for all of my patrons,” or something like that. Take care. Stay safe.
Great lesson.. enjoyed both no1 and no2. But on no2 you got this guitar with insane low action right? I mean really low, cant see the string bouncing on lick #1 like my string does. How low is it? Would be really helpfull info Thnx in advance cheers 🍻
How should one built the pliableness...If I can have this abillity I am sure a lot f other licks can be played faster too. Can it be practised..has it to do something with relaxation, concentration..or meditation?
you can do it with clean sound, but overdrive helps. It's a hammer-on from nowhere. So on the B string at the 12th fret, pick then hammer the 15th, pull off to 12th, then hammer G string 14th fret before returning to the B string 12th to start the lick over. It's the strength of your hammer-on that makes the sound. Takes a bit of practice. The next problem will muting the G string and not letting it ring open when you start the lick over. You can do this with your picking hand muting, or using your first finger, which will be still holding down the B string, just position it so that it is holding the B but slightly touching the G. Sorry if this isn't that helpful, but it's hard to explain without actually showing you. Build your hammer and pull-off strength with trills. Use clean sound because it is harder to get clean notes... but when you can do it clean and then crank up the overdrive it will sound awesome.
Do you know where I could start with learning theory? I've been playing 2 years and only know a couple of scales and none of the theory behind them really, so my improv is quite limited. Asking since you seem to be pretty knowledgeable on theory, especially in your latest video.
Ayye upping my solo game been dying for a new guitar with a floyd so I can get shreddy lol buuuut I figured id learn how to shred first :b #keepinitrhymey
Love your videos - but in many cases it would be a HELL of a lot more helpful if you addressed the right hand techniques needed to make these licks shine. -> my 2 cents.
0:50 E minor lick
2:32 Zakk Wylde style lick
4:20 First lick revisited
5:38 SRV style lick
7:42 Jimmy Page style lick
The real MVP
The 5th one sounds a lot like Eddie Van Halen.

You'r right...wish we had internet tabs when I was 13...
Yep, we had to learn stuff the hard way.
i just know y’all dudes can shred

I like lick #2, showing how to lead into it really helps too.
lick 5 was pretty cool, thanks
You are an awesome teacher. My Jem and I Love the way you help us !!
Loving the SRV lick works great on a blues turnaround
gonna give this stuff a try haha, 40+ years on bass, picked up LP few months back and just now figuring out how to hold onto a pick without dropping it lol. Jorn viggo lofstad of Pagan's mind has ended my love of bass. great vids..

Love the explosions between licks!!! Totally Excellent!!!

Good stuff. I'm learning the solo to The Trooper. A lot of these are helpful
Trooper is such a sick song
Thanks for the lesson packs lots of good stuff in there. My wife might be pissed. She's not going to see me as much at night. Haha

Totally love your vids. Definitely subscribing.
You talk as fast as you play! I subscribe to your channel... thanks for the videos.
That guitar is sick.
I think the first lick may be part of the solo of Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins.
What guitar is that ?? Just made out the headstock to say Acacia? if so what model?
rock on bro, thanks!
this guitar and the dealay sound grat
Subbed, thanks for the tips!
I don't know if anyone told you this, but the Boston song you were trying to think of on the first lick is probably "Long Time".
I think he was thinking of Journey's Don't Stop Believing intro guitar lick
I like to take all these licks and get creative with them
Awesome
Very nice man.

hey rob what is your amp?it sound just too gorgeous..i want one
Woah...What guitar is that and how are they able to do a 4/2 headstock like that without getting sued by EBMM?
I need to know what kind of guitar this is. I want one!
hi robert, could i know what set up you use?, or in this particular case!, what effects?thanks !
how do you get this tone ?
Can someone tell me how to set my sound so I can play my fret board with out striking the string with my pick...is it just an overdrive??
you can do it with clean sound, but overdrive helps. It's a hammer-on from nowhere. So on the B string at the 12th fret, pick then hammer the 15th, pull off to 12th, then hammer G string 14th fret before returning to the B string 12th to start the lick over. Sorry if this isn't that helpful, but it's hard to explain without actually showing you. Build your hammer and pull-off strength with trills. Use clean sound because it is harder to get clean notes... but when you can do it clean and then crank up the overdrive it will sound awesome.
