- In this new video series, we want to show you and introduce you to several originals in detail, one after the other, because there is nothing better than references for model builders.
Today we show you interior and exterior views of the Panzer II version c!
A little background on the history of the Panzer II. The tank was conceived in 1934. The production took place from 1935 - 1942 and 1900 tanks were produced in different versions. After active use, the chassis served as a basis for various self-propelled guns.
The key data of the Panzer II are, 3 man crew, commander, driver, radio operator/loader. Length 4.81m, width 2.22m, height 1.9m and a weight of 8.9t
The Panzer II is armed with a 2 cm KwK 30 L/55 and a MG 34
The Panzer II at Saumur is a true rarity, as recent research has now revealed. Here we have a version c, you read that correctly, a small c. A total of only 75 of the small c version were made, this is also the first version with the large rollers, initially with a round nose, additional armor was attached, which now shows the angular version shown here.
The tank shown here comes from a junkyard in the French city of Trun, where it was "rescued" in the 1980s. The insignia of the 2nd Panzer Division was discovered during the restoration, it is possible that the Panzer II was first used there. What is certain, however, is that the Panzer II served in the 217th Assault Tank Battalion from 1944 onwards.
As it looks now after the restoration, it was put in the state around 1940 for the invasion of France, but unfortunately has an incorrect turret number.
The tank is ready to drive and is regularly shown at festivals and demonstrations!
We are pleased that the tank museum in Saumur made this shoot possible for us, especially for these unusual insights.

Der Panzer I und II waren nicht als Übungspanzer konzipiert.
Ich würde es als angemessen empfinden, die Männer, die in diesen Fahrzeugen gekämpft haben, gefahren und gestorben sind, nicht als „arme Würstchen“ zu bezeichnen. Glorifizieren braucht man sie auch nicht, aber die gewählte Bezeichnung ist unangemessen - gerade heute, wo aus jeder Ecke heraus ständig „Respekt“ für Alles und Jeden gefordert wird.
Die heutige Zeit trifft es eher das sich jeder über alles pikiert , einfach mal sacken lassen 🤔
