I've been coming back here from time to time for the past few years, and tonight I just want to say thank you my friend, this has helped me through a lot of tough times.
Oh man, I'm sooo glad this wasn't completely forgotten. I'd been looking for it for ages since the episode first came out and thought it would never happen. I love that the sound quality is just perfect too. Now we just need the other instruments.
Thanks very much. Yes, same here! - as soon as I heard it open the first episode I tried to find it, with no luck. So had to work it out. It's awesome when the band comes in with the horns in the later episode, with Louie running up to the Letterman show.
First time ever hearing this; I have to say it caught me by surprise. Superb performance, sir, truly an emotionally driven tone. Mahalo, (thank you) and Aloha from Hawaii!
Every time I come back here, I get exactly what I want. A slice of hope. It may seem dark out there, it may not be your day, but there's hope. Thank you.
I would of thought I commented on this before. thank you so much for doing this. a fantastic piece of music. I listen to this in a constant loop from time to time, when I'm studying or having an existential crisis (I average on two a week:) )
i don’t know if you come on here any more man but when I watched this episode for the first time i immediately looked up the song and my middle school self listened to this cover over and over again. almost ten years ago now, thank you for this cover!
Yes!!!! Yes!!!! You have just made my night. I wanted to hear this song from the show Louie, but I couldn't find it until now. Thank you so much for uploading.
Yea, so I had originally watched the entire first and second season, but stopped just before getting to the late night episodes. I wasn't super hooked on the series thus far, just thought it was fun to watch every now and then. 6 months later I revisit it where I left off and holy shit....thats some good television right there. Late night part 3 was amazing....almost had me in tears.
This is perfect. I've had this song stuck in my head since the Late Show episodes aired. I wish they would release the track to download since Louie has so many good music pieces. All we need now is the horns to come in. Awesome job!
i recently found one comment that said that the music in the whole series was made by one company i dont know if it was under this one or under the video of the actual scene from Louie. so maybe... just maybe... if someone slided in those dms and asked them.
Thank you Mike. I come from France and live in Germany. Just for you to know that you're performance and you're generosity both crossed the ocean. Thanks to put that online. (Hopping my English is ok!)
Great rendition, Mike! Ended up here because I've been searching for this song for months.. But it cannot be found anywhere.. I especially love the horns in the original arrangement..
hey I just wanted to let you know I had you email me the tabs to this years ago when you offering the service. I wound up using your cover in my video essay on Late night comedy for a little bit which recently has found some youtube success, and I just wanted to thank you for making my favorite piece of television music listenable given it was never officially distributed. youre awesome
Hey man, thanx for posting this - I just started episode 10 of season 3 and immediately paused to try and find the piece somewhere - on watching you I realise it's one of my favourite progressions haha. The variations and accents (Im like theoretically illiterate haha) on the basic chords are great - have only tried a couple myself by chance. So thanks again for posting!
Thank you so much for recording this. It gave me lots of good and affirming feelings when I may have needed an indirect aid to that. You play really well :) Hope you keep on playing.
Fabulous. I would love a tutorial video posted, I've got your hand written tabs in front of my but I don't know how to make the chord shapes so that repositioning my hand flows fluidly with the finger picking.
I once had an opportunity to get into a very well paid and exciting position, earning at least eight times i earned at job i had at that time. The selection process was extremely long and dreadful. They examed economics, math, pauchology, decision making and whole lot of interviews between. The whole selection process took around 4 moths. At first there were 180 people applying, then they narrowed ddown to 100, 80, 40 and eventually i came to last test. It was a room of 14 people and only 7 would be accepted. It was last challenge.i remeber that feeling that i grew a lot during those 4 months, i got a beer with my best friends later that night, knowing that i did everything i could and i said everything i wanted, expressed myself best. And then, after two weeks i got a call that i was not selected. This was a chance for me to become a millionaire at the very young age, this was a chance to get myself into working with global projects, handle big money and make big decisions. I ripped your song, i stood up to their office and kept remembering "fuck you, Letterman scene". Thank you, Mike, those few moments, looking at tall glass tower, while listening to you playing on my headphones are written in my deepest memories!
Saulis Usonis. Do not FRET. Your life is not over, bro. Many of us musicians have had similar experiences. DO NOT look at it as failure. The fact that you were considered, is fact enough. Push ON my friend, and look at your "failures" as incredible learning opportunities instead. I'm POSITIVE that you are amazing, and that you have a lot to offer the world at large.
For those interested, the chord progression is Am, F, C, G, likely in a different key. This progression is extremely common and extremely popular, but one of the most perfect ways to get the feeling of "sad but inspirational" across. Notice how easy it was in the show to turn it from sad and hopeless to victory without changing any of the chords.
You're right, it's also one of my favorite chord progressions. Just the metaphorical motion of it, moving down a third and up a fifth creates an uplifting feeling, and then back down again before resolving. The idea of an "emotional rollercoaster" is directly embodied in the audio. Then you have the first chord minor and the other three major, which creates an element of contrast, and that in turn creates a bittersweet feeling.
1. Look them in the eyes and speak from the heart 2. You have to go away to come back. 3. If someone tells you to keep a secret, it’s a lie. I guess Louis C.K. completed rule 2. He’s now back.
Great rendition! I've been looking for this and other songs on Louie, and it was a great pleasure to find your beautiful arrangement! I'm gonna throw in another idea for an arrangement: the song at the start of Louie's season 4 episode 10 (Pamela pt. 1). Unfortunately I couldn't find the original, but maybe you can figure it out.
Jaime Fernandez Hey, I took your suggestion and worked out an arrangement for the song at the start of episode 10, season 4. Hope you like it: ua-cam.com/video/nOYFpXHqj-4/v-deo.html
+Jaime Fernandez there is no soundtrack, but finally after 5 seasons the show's music coordinator has said that he is putting one together :) stay tuned, i've been looking for the music all over too haha
The funny thing about the song is it doesn't matter if you're on your highs or your lows, I think it reaches out to either direction and gives hope, at least that's my experience
Hey, man, absolutely beautiful rendition. Is there any way I could grab the tabs or transcription you used? I would absolutely love to give this ago, beautiful song from an incredible show. Thanks in advance.
Dude, that was amazing. Best song on the guitar I've heard in years. Think you'd consider making a video tutorial or something? Know it's a bit of an ask, but that was fantastic, so if you're open to the idea I really think a lot of people would love to learn to play that!
Louie's stuff meant a lot to me during a certain period of my life. That time may be over now, and Louie was definetly not the person I thought he was, or who I thought I was looking up to. I want to thank you for keeping this up despite everything that's come out about him. He was a piece of shit, but listening to this cover now, it's not him I'm thinking of, but the person I was back then, that listened to this cover maybe a 1000 times.
H!i I downloaded your version of this song and added background music to and i think it sounds really cool, just figured since you're the feature of the song you may want to hear it! Could i email it to you?
Hey that was me! this was the first song I tried to learn on guitar man, thank you so much for this, 6 years later and this is getting me through a very dark day. Thank you brother, please never ever remove this. Beautiful work. The drop box link isnt working, any chance you could give another tab?
Still helps me through bad days, please never take this down
I won't!
I've been coming back here from time to time for the past few years, and tonight I just want to say thank you my friend, this has helped me through a lot of tough times.
And thank you to you - glad it has meant something to you as well.
Man no one will guilt me. Louie had a profound effect on my life, I owe a lot to CK's art and comedy.
Amen, Brother. The man is truly gifted
Louie IS a F#%#ing GENIUS.
I don't care what people say about Louis - his show was fantastic, and the music was phenomenal.
back again. can't get over how beautiful this song is, and how well you were able to replicate it
Thanks for the very kind words!
"I can't give up on this. It's either a door or a wall for me; it's either the beginning or the end."
Still one of my all-time favorite UA-cam videos.
You just got me through a dark night. Thanks.
thank you!
I'm glad you got through it. This song is magic.

Thank you! Yep, the music from the show was great.

@@NaderGurashi dog you posted this like 4 times. It's not the actual song on there.
He talked about it once and never mentioned it again. I’m still holding out hope but I don’t see it happening realistically.
