Reading Upper Diesel Depot (Fuelpoint) + Various in November 1996
Continuing with my archive of video recording between the years of 1986 to 2001 this clip is of Reading upper diesel depot (Formerly known as Reading Fuelpoint) This location was positioned between Reading West Station and Reading just before the infamous signal protecting the junction into all the platforms. Due to the array of Route indicators (Feathers) on top of the signal it was likably known as "Nelson's Hat" by the drivers and trains were more than often held there for a period of time. This clip was taken on 16/11/1996 and includes a shot of LMS 46229 "Duchess of Hamilton" accelerating away from Reading to take the B & H Line West. We also visit Mortimer on the Reading to Basingstoke line to see SR 828 pass north with a special a week earlier and then we finish up at Newbury Station on the "Down Side" to see a few HST's and another WC bound steam special this time hauled by GWR "King" class number 6024 "King Edward I" I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories albeit a rather brief look at these locations. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually. Sit back and enjoy this latest production remembering all those now long gone Locomotive classes and other types of traction. Many thanks for all subscriptions and all of those viewers who have kindly shown an interest in my material.
