Hardtails are more fun for me! I'd just upgrade the fork to the one that comes with the Elite version and you're GOLDEN! The 2023 Comp comes with Shimano Deore derauiller and shift levers! So much fun on the trails with this bike! I became a kid again!!
😅my first mountain bike was an '89 Rock Hopper. it was almost a perfect bike for me. i almost bought a Trek, which I know are great bikes but I'm glad I got a Rock Hopper. i bought it before suspension forks were a big deal, so when I added a suspension fork it became a perfect bike! i was a self taught rider. after I learned how to ride, I had a lot fewer accidents. going really fast out on the trail turned out to be a spiritual, transcendent experience for me. 😅
The brakes squeeze because they are wet or cold, and if you ride on salty humidity places like beach they will squeeze a lot more because the salt, but it goes away quickly if you heat it up. Also the pad compound will affect, they are organic or synthetic?
@juanmanue5001 i believe theyre synthetic but i dont know for sure. They work well except for the squealing sometimes. Definitely an idea for an upgrade in the future for myself and anybody else who owns this bike 🤘🏻
Do the brakes squeal or do they howl? A little bit of squealing even with light braking is normal. For the fork, there are entry-level air forks that would be a massive upgrade (ex. Rockshox Recon with straight steer tube and QR dropouts).
The breaks on my Rockhopper Comp, as everything else on the bike, are very silent. So much fun with this bike! It loves dirt!! Nimble fast, smooth and quiet!!
Yap, the MCD is pure BS and you probably have it in your fork. It should act as the ,,brain,, for much less money but it doesent work properly at all and it degrades the suspension work. So,what could you do? You need to cut the hook on your lockout button and when you want to go full travel, turn it as much as it goes .This will shut down the cartridge completely and you will have full working of the suspension. When you want to lock the fork, turn couple of circles till you lock it fully.Yes your gonna turn that button a couple of circuits but all that is to avoid engagement of MCD which totally sucs. Also,if you wanna encrease the working if the fork as much as you can, take the preload out, take out the spring and grease the hell out of it and then put it back in the fork. Also use machine oil or motor oil and lube the hell out inside of the lower legs.Thats everything you could do and you will be surprised that XCM could become for at least 35 procent better than it is untouched.
Ive had mine for a year now and i love it. The breaks work great and love the tensioner on the derailer. Game changer

I have the same bike and agree that I want the seat to be lower. So how much did you cut off of your seat post?
I cut about 2 inches off the first time, and i havent done it again yet but im thinking i wanna cut off another 2 inches or so

I don't think i like straight handlebars, wish they went back a little less bending of the wrists when rocking back ans forth pedaling hard, nice bike
The derailer is made to be breakaway so you don't damage the frame
The hanger is designed to bend or break. Not the derailleur.
