    It seriously is crazy how much misconceptions there have been even as recent as 2019. The whole time while taven was doing tas 8-2 attempts for the first time, legit no one (including taven) knew how it worked, and I remember taven coming up with crazy ideas on how he thought the bbg worked that were just wrong. I have been trying to fix that though, It has been my mission to rid of all Smb1 misinformation and misconceptions, and bring tas knowledge to RTA community to make everyone understand Smb1

      Just out of curiosity, is this just a passion project for the TAS community? What's the motivation? I mean, the speedrunners get all the glory and twitch streamers. It's a lot like linemen in football. The quarterback gets the girls and fame, but what they do would be impossible without a good O-line.

    GREAT breakdown, Kosmic.
    I have to reflect a bit, though. I remember when I first bought my NES with my own money--as a kid. I saved the HELL out of my 'chore and errand' money. Had the SMB + DH combo and everything...
    It's *SO* weird to see all of this SOOOOoooo many decades later. SO WEIRD. Surreal, really, but also super interesting in a very odd, unexplainable way. In other words, I have *NO* idea why I like seeing SMB speedruns (or Doom, HL, Unreal or otherwise for that matter), but... IDK. There's just something going on with it. Like an internal clock (hey, the 'BUS', hahahah).

    I always wondered when someone would make a practice rom for this game that allowed you to upload a ghost that could be replayed for each screen you're currently on and would just repeat. Same concept as racing games. I always thought it would be super helpful for those of us learning the game. That could probably only be made for PC though. Even a practice rom that showed precise locations to do full jumps with arrows and text would be awesome. Put a path line where mario should be that one could follow so we could see exactly when to execute jumps. Then get rid of the line and leave red dots in the jump/landing locations then be able to turn the brightness of them down until you can do the level without any help at all.

    12:19 That practice rom reminds me of an idea I had for FPS games, but for the lower end of the skill range (like me) who can't aim, where it would take where an aimbot would have shot, and then shows you how far off you were from where that would have shot. I brought this up somewhere and got a response that said that just watching demos of themself already worked well enough. Even with the information encoded in such an odd fashion, how many orders of magnitude more helpful is it to know instantaneously what you did wrong on almost every single jump versus having to wait until after the entire game to see how you messed up?

    • @Kyrieru
      @Kyrieru 3 роки тому

      I might be missing something but I don't see what that would accomplish. An aim bot would always be aiming perfectly, so wouldn't it just be showing you the target? The only difference would be recoil/travel time, but you can visually see how you missed in most cases anyhow. For most people the difficulty is reaction time/aiming where you intend to aim, rather than aiming in the right spot.

    • @bastian_5975
      @bastian_5975 3 роки тому

      @@Kyrieru It'd be a line from your cursor that shows where the target was on your screen when you shot. I suppose this sort of thing might only be helpful in games more like TF2 (I was about to specify which one, but then I realized that both probably work, but I was originally thinking Team Fortress 2.) than say, COD.

    I have seen both videos and honestly, I did not get anything but respect for you in his video
    you are amazing and one of the main reasons I know about awesome things you have done is Summoning Salt channel
    So keep on the good work and don't get bothered by the negativity in the comments, I know that you and your community of amazing runners can squeeze more magic out of this game

    GG Kosmic, it was a badass 8-4 in its day, and don't let anyone convince you it wasn't. NOW you know if you ever say "it can't be done better", some asshole's gonna come along and prove it can. Just that asshole might be you yourself. 😁

    How do you run so fast? I played on PC Mario Bros flash and it takes Mario more time to fall. Also I don't know how to do the flagpole glitch. I don't know if that is because I am playing on PC or something.

      Mario Bros Flash is an unofficial recreation of SMB1. If you want to speedrun SMB1 then go download the Nestopia UE emulator and obtain a ROM of SMB1. However I legally can't tell you how to get a ROM
